In the administrative tools section, have you marked the partition as active?

i thought sata's don't go by slave and master? partintions are usally made at the installation of a OS and you probably have one already, unless you told it not to but i'm not sure if you can.

I'm assuming the HDD is already formatted? If not, you can format it here first, then mark it as active.

Go to Computer management, then right click on the drive and mark the partition as active.

Here's where you will find it by right clicking on the drive. As you can see it is greyed out on mine because it is already marked as active.
You can also format the drive here by clicking on the format part of the menu after right clicking on the drive you want to format/activate.

you would have made a partition when you installed the OS and did the first format. It's just the partition in the whole drive. In the pic I posted you can see I have two partitions on my main drive (c: main dump and H: the hole) and one big partition on the other drive (d: the big one).

You shouldn't need to touch your main HDD with the OS on it though if it's your second drive that has the problems of not being seen in My Computer.

but i didnt make a partion on my second HD...i chose not to cuz i thought i didnt need to or i dunno..crap....sigh

that's fine, you can do all you need to do (make a partition/format/etc.) through the computer management section without affecting your HDD with you OS on it.
You can partition it as one big partition (ie the whole drive) or you could make a couple of smaller partitions on the same drive. It's up to you on how you want to set it up.

Was the second drive brand new? or did it have data on it coming from being in another PC?

If it was brand new, it needs to be formatted first before you can mark it active.

its brand new its a WD cavior 250GB...while the raptor (the drive thats formatted and working) is 74GB and is being reserved for te OS and software.

No problem, if it's brand new, you'll need to format it first. Go Administrative tools ->computer management ->Disk Management, then right click on the drive there and select format. Once it has formatted you'll be able to right click again like in the picture and then select "mark drive as active".

I'm also assuming these are IDE drives? Not SATA?

It makes no difference to what you have to do, but will explain why you said:

the second harddrive has the same location 0 (0) as the raptor

I'm guessing if they are both showing the location of 0, then they are both running on the same IDE cable and the Location 0 is the IDE socket you have the cable plugged into on your motherboard and no doubt the DVD drive plugged into the other IDE slot (location 1)

nooo...these are SATA

fair enough, but I wouldn't be worried about it. Wait until you format and mark as active first and then see if you have any problems.

BTW, I think you should power up that PC and let it format while you go to bed. It will take over an hour to format, so you may as well have it doing it while you sleep.

so going back to my question do sata's have masters and slaves?

Bucko

they do, it's set in the bios. It's slightly different than IDE as there is only one drive per cable.
As he already has the primary drive working and bootable, everything else becomes a slave drive.
