Every body knows and loves (jk on the last one) the DeLorean. Where would "Back to the Future" be without the Delorean (or where would the Delorean be without "Back to the Future"). Neeways, they're bringin' it back for another year or two. It'll have a new design, much faster more reliable engine and a reasonable price tag.

EDIT: Instead of making two posts at once Im merging the two:
Speaking of the Delorean (and similar cars), I saw this at the Dream Cruise (Detroit/Michigan):

It was pretty nice: very fast (180 on the gauge), extremely freakin low to the ground, V12, nice shape.
Does anyone know what that is?
Thanks,
Indybird
Looks like a hacked up Mustan Cobra. Shame. Pretty cool about the Delorean though. I always thought it would be cool to have one.

Naw, definitely wasn't a mustang...
See.. I'm on the fence about it. The front kinda says mustang, but the back says 70's camero. Or maybe I'm just tired and need my eyes checked.

That's the first thing that came to mind when looking at the front and rear so I guess my eyes need to be checked too. Kit car?

I am very, very sure it was not based off of anything and was not a kit car. I had its own logo and engine. The whole thing was less than 36" tall...

That my Friend would be a 1970 De Tomaso Mangusta.. One of the First American Built Muscle Super cars to compete with the European styling.
GREAT FREAKIN CAR.. one of my all time favorites. :D

Hmm...I'd love a delorian. Only because it's got style. I know it's as practical as a chocolate teapot, but we're god damn modders, right? Most of the stuff we do is for style, the hell with practicality!

MY favorite line about the Delorian was from Robin Williams;
"Would all the Delorian owners still waiting for their rebate, please check your trunk..."
Around me I see 3 or 4 different ones on the road regularly. One looks like it went through a war zone with tons of damage, but the guy still drives it.

Thank you so much. +rep
I actually had search MCarsweb for a De Tomaso because I thought I had seen that on the car. For some reason they didn't have it so I thought I had mixed up the name...

DIng ding!!!
DeTomaso Mangusta it is.
Personally, I don't like the design of the Mangusta.
Although the Pantera is a SERIOUSLY interesting car to me.
ENGINE::: I don't think the engine on the Mangusta is a V12.
I'm almost positive it's the same 351 'Cleveland' Ford engine used in the Pantera.
The guy that designed that car (Pantera) is Tom Tjaarda... one of the BEST ever car designers IMHO.

LMAO!
Low blow! LoL
Auto Trivia Time!
You know, DeLorean actually started construction of a factory for his car company (DMC) in Puerto Rico.
At the time, if memory servers me right, Puerto Rico wasn't the only place 'fighting' for the right to build the car.
I think it all fell through when the drug operation went down.
More Trivia!
You shouldn't clean the DeLorean with your usual auto care products.
Because its panels are stainless steel, you should clean it with (I kid you not) water and a 'sponge' of steel wool (Brillo/SOS).
Cool eh?!
One more:::
The gullwing doors on the DeLorean where lifted by a torsion bar.
This torsion bar is/was a pain in the butt to manufacture, so DeLorean subcontracted to Grumman Aerospace. Part of their manufacturing was a cryogenic freeze.
I-can't-resist:::
The engine in the DMC-12 was a PRV V6 engine.
The name "PRV" originated from the three companies that collaborated on producing it.
Peugeot
Renault
Volvo
Being THREE companies collaborating, pre-internet/eMail age, that engine was a real PoS. I speak from experience on working with them in Volvos.
<>>M<><><><><
Oh yeah, we've got a new DeLorean coming!
w00t!
John DeLorean was fond of the Acura NSX... he said that was what the DMC-12 should have been.
Well, yeah Johnny... but Honda wasn't trying to score some coke either...
EDIT: I'm going to search for it, but I remember there was a company (IS a company) that restores DeLorean DMC-12s.
To better than new condition.
They had a portfolio of pics in their website... and it was amazing work.
AJ: yeah, yeah. Air conditioning sounds good.
Yeah, yeah... a good stereo system would also be good.
No, please restore the original wheels. I like those.
Um, yeah sure! That Flux Capacitor options looks handy... might use that sometime.

Just read that link you posted...
Interesting article!
If I where them, I would use the new GM small block.
That's a heck of a compact engine, almost any part imaginable under the sun for performance/replacement... relatively light.
And if they REALLY want to go bonkers, inside the same dimensions, they can get the new Z06's engine... 427 cubic inches of power. :D

Interestingly enough The SO and I watched this very thing at Heathrow airport on Saturday. Not being the parents (or having to deal with the kids) it was great fun to watch. The best part was 1/2 hour later when security came by to talk with the parents about the out-of-control kids...

This one was a V12 for sure, he had a little sign showing off its specs, and I could physically see the 12 Cylinders...

Wow! Wierd!
Cool!
Maybe he did a conversion?
Or there was a limited run of V12 versions?
Any idea where the V12 was sourced?
A Ferrari? Lamborghini engine?
Maybe a Jaguar V12!
I would put my money on the Jag V12.
