allow me to introduce myself:
my name is Luke (hence lukeisthecoolest)
i am a modder for 2 years who is starting his 4 build
ahhhhhhhh crap LETS GET MODDING:banana:

i saw Transformers in the movies and it was kickass (so kickass i am gonna build a comp around it). it will be my first FULLY custom case with a strong theme

i have a case modding competition on August 11 so i have only 10 days to finish this :( but i am a special breed called a "speed modder" (i have built a stock comp in less than 10 min) and hope i retrieve the funds for the project in time :D

original plans using voice-changer mask:

Nice idea. Here is a very similar mod the won this months SLI Rig of the month on the Nvidia website.

awwwwwwww that stinx :(

i thought i was being original :/

The boy 4rm oz

Your's will still be original because you are keeping with the chassis design. The on on the Nvidia website was a complete custom case, completely from scratch.

one of the things i ALWAYS stress when you have something "original" it has prolly already been done / thought of...what makes it original is the ideas you put forth and the personal twist you give your project

Trust your feelings and go for it Luke. The force is strong with you. Besides, that other mod looks kinda funky, cool, but a little boxy. Just do something to outdo that case. Boy 4rm oz does have a point aslo regarding the case.

DO IT!! DO It!! DO it!! Do it!! do it!!...

SWEET DUDE!! i when transformers came out, i was thinking about how cool it would be if someone made a transformers case mod. Ingenious of you to use a face themed case, i would never have thought. good luck doing it in 10 days! ps: im curious to know how you will mount the mask to the rectangular part.

the people here are so generous! i mean i haven't even started the case (waiting for these stupid people to finally ship my huge shipment of acrylic ;))

lukeisthecoolest
08-02-2007, 08:22 AM
i checked my shipping for in order that i ordered on 7/31 and it is saying that it won't come UNTIL 8/7 so if this is true i can completely forget about bringing it to the competition :(

i mean i could build a custom comp in six days but 3 DAYS!

o an today it says the package is in NJ right now (where i live) yet they can get it to me in the next 5 days !??!?!?!? WTF?

The boy 4rm oz
08-02-2007, 08:31 AM
See if you can go and personally pick it up. That's what I'd do.

i was wonderin if i should rent a blade saw from Home Depot or cut it using a jig-saw method i found online?

i might have to buy a new jigsaw :/ so it could save me the money :)

elbarto241
08-03-2007, 12:39 AM
HERE (http://scc.jazzle.co.uk/) use this to save time on sketchup, trust me. its very helpfull.

and i would advise to buy your own electric jigsaw with a metal [fine tooth] blade. it also doubles as a acrylic cutting blade too :D

oh and love your quote bro , rofl

You won't be able to bend 90° corners with a small radius (depends on how thick your plexi is).
Best method is to heat up a metall-pipe, fix the pipe and the plexi in a bench vice and then use some wood or stuff with width as your plexi and use it to press the plexi around the pipe.
Depending on the plexi 80° Celsius make the plexi bendable but you have to watch out not to overheat it. Once too you never get it plain again...
(See the desaster in my Orb thred)
Best worklog I've seen here for plexibending is TribalOverkills Blackout log. He describes the stuff with the pipe. And for the big radius on top of your case its the best to put it in an oven and not to heat it up with a hot air gun. So you get the same temeprature in the whole plexi-sheet, and then bend it over a form with the radius you want to create.
Good luck!

Hope you get your stuff soon, I've been in the movie yesterday and those robot-animations are simply great! Want to see your bot (:
The Sketchup model is pretty cool. Especially the mask!

BTW: Why did you buy this round LED thing? You can simply solder one of those in 10 minutes yourself...

No, YOU could solder one of these in 10 min!
it would take me at least a year! i am terrible with LEDs and noone has ever written a decent guide with decent pics :(

and i don't want to "bend" the acrylic i want to form or join two pieces together

Nice job, good sketch up model too :D Any chance you could send me Prime's head in it's own sketch up file that looks pretty good and i am looking forsome refrence. If not no problem.

|NQ|Squelsh
08-04-2007, 08:19 AM
Oh okay. If you want to put two pieces together and you have the right tools (buzz-saw with mounting), it would be the best if you make a 45 degree cut on both plexi pieces. So that the two edges together form the 90 deg angle.
But even then I don't think that it's stable enough when you glue it together. You will need some plexi bars in the corner for strengthening. And then you can think of screwing the plexi to those corner-pices if you don't like to glue it.

sry i was just gonna post last night when all of a sudden my cable and internet went out because of a huge thunderstorm in NJ :(

i didn't get anymore work done because i didn't know i had work to go to! i woke up at 3pm and got a phonecall saying i had to work from 4-10 :o

and today i am going to the Renissance fair in NY! yay but no updates :(

go into the 3D wharehouse and look up "optimus prime head"

Yeah, that thunderstorm kinda ruined our night at work too. Fridays are usually quiet, but we had stuff going down all over, and Verizon wouldn't dispatch. They kept citing something about lightning and their techs, and playing with the electrical system that just didn't mesh well. Wimps.

Anyway, I can't wait to see you get some more work done on this. I think it's really gonna be cool.

thanx i am just going to go over the mask and hopefully find a way to strip the mic's wires and hook them up to an audio output so whatever noise my computer makes it will come out Optimus Prime's face :) it will make people lawl

and is there anyway to solder LEDs so that i don't have to use a reisitor? like in a series? i've tried it before but they blew out in a few seconds :(

once i found about the LEDs i will get back to working!

Sweet mod. I think this mod resembles mine A LOT more than the mod that won the SLI competition. We both are mounting Prime faces to small cases (rhymed, sweet). The other guy made a 125 pound behemoth. Keep up the good work Luke, it'll be great to compare the two of ours once they're done. (I've had ideas similar to yours for quite some time now even posted on here, but being the lazy son of a gun that I am, I haven't really gone anywhere with it). Anyways, best of luck in the competition!

thanx! i am really suprised how much support i am getting for this project and i am sad that i am not really moving fast (especially since i consider myself a "speed modder") i really thank you guys for that and do't really seem worthy with posting my stuff on here because other mods are smokin (bows down to Crimson) i REALLY hope i can get this switch tomorrow at my local computer store! then my package of acrylic should arrive and final measurements will be takenm then the next day acrylic should be cut and placed. Finally at the 10th i will install and pray. if everything goes as plan i will have it done by the 11th and readyy for judging

thanx for the support,
Luke

well i got the switch but now i have an even BIGGER problem!!!!

well i started to build the comp ona piece of anti-static bag. so then i was completely done when i started to start it up.

fans spin then nothing :(

neweg's motto should be "ALL of our products our DOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

idk what i should do cause it could be a short or DOA mobo :(

i would show you picks but i have slipped into another state of computer depression :/

Omega
08-07-2007, 01:13 PM
Check every connection you can, but ffs make sure you're grounded. The last thing you need (and might have done) is to kill components with an electrostatic discharge.

Also, start with the basics. Make sure the mobo has a speaker plugged in so you can hear the beep code. Take out everything but the CPU. Turn it on. Listen for the beep code. It should be a memory error. Look up your codes on google. If it's a memory error, good. Put the memory in. Start the computer again. You should get a GPU error or something else like that. Keep doing this until you figure out the faulty component.

Now, if you don't get jack **** with just the mobo/cpu, make sure the CPU is seated properly and aligned properly. If it's not, then re-seat it (most CPU's are keyed anyways so this should NOT be something you mess up).

If it's still ****ed, RMA it.

lukeisthecoolest
08-07-2007, 01:19 PM
the cpu is like sodlered in place cause the manufaturer does it and it is a mini-itx

i was wondering if it could be the PSU cause i have had numerous problems with this PSU and was wonderin if it was that :/

and i don't think there is a speaker on the mobo caus eit is an ITX

i'll change the PSU and try that and hope to god it works

is it safe working it on a anti-static bag? :?

elbarto241
08-07-2007, 02:58 PM
not really. a anti-static bag only repells static when the component is sealed inside. a anti-static workplace mat is probably the safest thing to use , along with a anti-stat wrist strap.

hope you didnt fry your mobo, probably didnt. do you have carpet?

lukeisthecoolest
08-07-2007, 07:43 PM
no i fixed the shorting thing by switching the PSU but there is another problem!!!!

whenever i start up the computer there is no system beeps and nothing comes up on the monitor :(

can i start up a comp using a external HD? :?

update:

i am not gonna let a little problems ruin my whole case!

so i trudged on and recieved my package of acrylic today! i started work RIGHT AWAY!

so far today i have:

1. set-up the non-working comp (i am buying a new PSU tomorrow cause i think its that)

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x87/lukeisthecoolest/OPP2002.jpg

2. bought the switch that i was missing

Sweetness d00d! I looked some more tonight before work, but still couldn't find anything. I'll probably turn up in a couple weeks when we're unpacking everything at the new house.

Yo, dude, have you realised that someone else on the forum is making a mod strikingly similar with the same helmet?

i am using a store-bought mask and he is making his own. and also he started his project WAY before me so i was kinda copying it without ever seeing

Luke,

I got this switch for my mod... It's not momentary, but can you use it on this mod? I won't be using it for a bit, my dremel died today, f-ing neighbor, so I'm out of work for a while. Let me know...

work has stopped on this case because i have a demanding job right now so i can barely move wen i get home :(

i hope to sell my Dangerously 1337 case at the contest and hopefully make enough money to buy a super pocket bike ;) i will prob sell it for $450 even though i would be losing money :( i just want this case out of my house!

hope to see you at the comp!
