OK I'm thinking of turning one of these:

into one of these ...

with an entire pc including a 15/17" screen inside in for my nephew. The screen is the biggest limiting factor in this concept due to size implications I think. Thanks to XcOM (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9683) for the inspiration for this project.
I would plan to make the sphere out of papier mache, perhaps bonded with araldite or something similar for extra rigidity. Inside there would be steel framing to maintain strength and form the housings./mountings. If anyone has ideas about another something that could esily be modded into a spherical case I'd love to hear it. Probable diameter 40 - 50cms. Anyone know a source of thin steel spherical balls that size?
The front half would open maybe as two doors - one to each side - revealing the monitor with the rear half of the sphere behind the screen housing most of the PC's guts. The two panels revealed to each side of the monitor might hold optical drives, speakers and a touchscreen monitor with winamp running on it. Base Boost and a few other bits housed in the base unit, maybe even the PSU.
Clever ways of getting it all into a sphere and workable without being the size of a space hopper? (if you'll excuse the pun).
Aim is to complete this by Christmas.
