Im gonna have to say the 8500GT because it comes with a massive factory overclock. Make sure you get some fans blowing on it because (from the sounds of the reviews) it heats up a lot. The ATI is very close in performance but a lot of people are having problems with the HD2K series combined w/ ATI Catalyst.

As I said before that SLI isn't there for nothing ... go Nvidia .. then when Christmas comes you can get it a buddy :)

Sli is cool, go nvidia

but how much video card do you NEED? TWO of the 8500's? what games will need two 8500's? Maybe in the future though... but i'm plenty happy with my ati x800pro. it still works pretty well, although i got it when it was just behind the curve of cutting edge, which is the right idea when buying cards. Go just behind the cutting edge and it will be nearly as good performance for around half the cost. But, in the end, i would probably go nvidia, i just like them. And sli will be nice, once that card isn't quite good enough, you can double it's performance.

Oh no no no. Don't waste your money on either of those cards. Please, first check out these two links:

There's absolutely no point in getting Dx10 cards if you're going to go low-end because they will not run Dx10 games at a level that will be worth it. You might as well go with a Mid-range Dx9 card for now and when you have the money go for a GOOD Dx10 card. A decent Dx9 card will out-perform a low-end Dx10 card. More bang for your buck, that's what it's about.

Don't get a DX10 card. Get a 7900 or something. I got myself one and I got 3 other people to get em'. They're freaking sweet. Bust Oblivion at full high. EVGA 7900GS KO for 130$ like 5 months ago, prolly like 100$ now. Good card.

Stay away from the 8500, a 6800 can beat one of them. They suck bawls. If you absolutely need DX10 for a budget get a 8600, better. Or the 2600, it's aight.

If you can afford it, the 8600GT isn't bad at all, and just crank up the speeds to 590/900 and you've got yourself something decent!
