How do I get the pearl/piano black color effect?

Hi, I'm new to these forums, just wanted to say this place is filled with kick ass toys and ideas. Anywho, I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the pearl/piano black effect similar to the ones on the chocolate phone or on the Samsung LCD panels. Furthermore, does the material in which I apply the paint on have an effect on the finish (e.g. plastic vs. metal). Thank you!:banana:
