ok I'm planning on spray painting the inside of my case.... here are my questions:
Q1: Will a spray painted mobo tray short anything out?
Q1.1: If so are there any types of paint that will not?
Sorry for being a nub lol I just want to make damn sure I dont short it out over something like this... ecspecially with the money I've spent and am spending on the actual componants.

Just to be safe you can take out the stand-offs for the mobo before painting

if you paint your mobo tray, the mobo wouldnt short out because they are being held by the unpainted standoffs [like cal said]; the mobo doesnt at anytime touch the paint or painted parts.
dont be ashamed of asking what may seem "dumb" questions, hey that how we all learn around here :D good luck and post a worklog bro

You don't even need to do that, some cases don't even have removable stand offs.
there is no chance of shorting out your MoBo by painting the MoBo tray with any normal paint.

i would stay away from chrome or "metallic" paints as some of them contain small metal solids to "sparkle" and may cause an accidental short

Which itself is still really unlikely.
You'll be fine painting the mobo tray. You won't however be fine painting the mobo. That's going a little too far ;).

The motherboard doesn't sit right on the motherboard tray, it has the stand offs, which are generally metal anyway, so a little bit of metal in paint that isn't going to touch the motherboard in any spot it wasn't already touching metal isn't going to hurt it.

the only way you could possbile have shorting problems is if you use matalic paint and try to paint it while the mobo is attached otherwise like everone else said your good to go.

I think he should still remove the standoffs (if possible); otherwise, paint will get in them and will make it difficult to screw the mobo back in.
If they aren't removable, you could try covering them with masking tape.

ahhh I didnt think about that, I'm pretty sure the standoffs are removable, if not I will be carefull not to get paint in them (or in any other holes for that matter)

masking tape sounds like a lot of effort to cover the holes. If you are that worried about it, just screw in the screws to the motherboard standoffs and then paint it. When you're done remove the screws and your threads will be clean and paint free.

Agreed, from personal experience, at least with flat paint - did a cheap case I had with flat orange a while back, integrated standoffs and all, and had no problems with it.
Thirded, or fourthed, on the "not using metallic paint" bit though, at least if your standoffs are non-removable.

What difference would metallic paint make though? The stand offs are metal to begin with, so there isn't going to be a shorting out problem.
