When it comes time to put up your video, make a .torrent file of it, if we can get a bunch of us to use the .torrent, it should save you a ton of bandwidth.

I am intrested in the mold process as well .. I know the mold making I been doing for mine is the very basic and simple method. I know later on down the road I will need to something more advance. Also Do you have any Tips for animatroics (sp) or some place I can look at to get other idea's?

I also like the out come of the face, very well done.

actually mechanical FX are still a huge part of specialFX--just not for applications where CGI is more flexible and less expensive. Most really good FX are a combination of both hardcore mechanical and CGI--

thats so true :(

But the still would want a copy of that in the dragonskin for the flexablity of it and would make a great halloween mask (Even tho I am sure my step son or daughter would take it from me).

Do you have a Vacume box or is the mold Max 30 low enough to debouble itself? I used the Poyo Putty and oommoo for projects. I have some Dragon skin for some minitures I need to re-make in lead/tin base. Just working on the vacume issue now.

Mini SSCs can be chained together to control up to 255 servos.

The Mini SSC II is a fully assembled module that includes a convenient phone-style jack for serial hookup, Futaba-J servo output headers, a sync LED to indicate when valid data is received, and switchable servo range/resolution (90° range with 0.36° resolution, or up to 180° motion and 0.72° resolution).

Well ,I did the skull movement with the servos. Only 3 servos, The jaw and the left and right move ,Up and down movement .
Testing how far of movement for jaw ......Dam ,I was surprised ,This thing could bite HARD. I could break the teeth .
Overall, I can control the speed L+R ,U+D easy ...Jaw. I can open wide and close 2 sec. Or I can open and close slow 2,3,4, mins.
I have 13 servos left to install... Maybe more.

Gary,

The results came out beautifully. I hope that this next test works out for you without any flaws. I love how the cheeks flex and stretch realistically in your video test, it really came out gorgeous. Your attention to detail in the muscles and skin folds is astounding. This really ought to be a resume piece for WETA or ILM. I studied special effects a lot in high school (obsessively) and have to say your work is easily of that quality level.

It came great, It was short in 1 place near the top right vent ,This spot would be cover with hair anyway. 4or 5 little bubbles ,But no away like the 1st one.The whole thing cure ,11hours and the 10th turn on the heat up to 140 ,So 10 hours at 126 to 129.
I think I will keep the batch size and make sure I scrape the bowl clean,Or injected it.
The oven worked Great. Oven cost $150.00 to make.
So, Now what ,I will get all of the mechs done and set eyes place. The eyes are in place but not just right. A couple mm forward or back. And then measure lip springs.
So ,Getting the whole skull thing working and talking ,ears casted too. And run another skin.
I love MonsterMakers Foam.

Gary, I have loved watching this come together every step of the way. It is pretty obvious you are getting close to finishing, and I'm thrilled to see it so close.

What are you planning on doing with the video at the end?

Also, I thought about you the other night - I was watching Mythbusters (one of my favorite programs) and they were creating new "skin" for their test dummy, "Buster", by using a latex foam mixture they called DragonSkin. It was highly impact resistant and extremely durable, and the process they went through reminded me a lot of this project.

Anyway, as someone who has always been fascintated by and studied a lot of movie special effects and makeup work, I just wanted to say that you're doing great, great work with this one, and your skill really shines. Thanks for sharing!

i dont wanna be a retard asking a retarded Q but i have to:
i see you use a software to control the servos,
did you made it, or there is somthing that can be adapted for any project,
and final Q do you think it could make a servo open\close a door depending on a temp readout

I can tell you now it is possible to get servos to react based on tempertures... as for how, I'm not sure. I would think you need 2 components, the hardware for controlling the servos and the software to read the temps and then activate the servos accordingly.

Holy hell is that head looking cool. Is that wire in the jaw going to be visible throughout?

Haven't got a clue in hell about how you're going to attach that to a case, and at this point, i don't care-this is one of the coolest things i've ever seen someone put together at home.

The support pipe is also be used to thread the power and controller cable inside the pipe.
I dont know yet if its going to be this high. The computer case will be below and
the support pipe will be painted flat black. This will give me the floating head effect over the case.
Testing the skin.
