Perhaps different quality parts? I'm confused.

Different speed and model...

EDIT: but yeah $2 difference for a better proc? No brainer...

Thats kind of dumb isn't it? Why would someone not spend 2 dollars more and get a better deal? That doesn't make any sense, the only way they would make money off of the 2 dollar cheaper one is from people who don't know any better or didn't look around to see if there was a better proc for the same price. Which would be like what, nobody? lol

Either raise the price of the E6850 or lower the price of the E6700. I vote for the second. :p

I am getting the E6850 @ $282 to replace my E6700 (which I bought for $520!). The price of the E6850 is supposed to drop to $266 sometime soon but I am in desperate need of the new processor and $282 isn't bad...

The Q6600 dropped a pile. $309US on newegg. $329CND at memoryexpress ;) Might want to think about that one.

Exactly what I was thinking... The 6850 even has 1333FSB. They REALLY need to drop the price on the e6700... and while they're at it, dropping the Q6700 100 bucks would be pretty sweet. *sighs*

anyone have an idea of performance - e6850 vs q6600?

My guess is e6850 would win in the stock competition but the quad would kill it in overclocking. I'll try and find a chart and post it here later just in case anyone is interested.

EDIT:: Wow, didn't even notice this one...

What's going on here? Maybe because a large majority's mobos can't handle the 1333? Is someone sleeping in the price department? Is this a hint that the e66 and e6700 will drop dramatically?

I think that has a large part to do with it. Some of the newest mainboards can't handle the 1333fsb stock. I know that top of the line boards like ASUS' Striker and EVGA's 680i were made with 1333fsb in mind. Thier spec sheets have had 1333fsb listed long before we even thought about this new level of procs. I am sure that if you got a newer board that does not support 1333fsb that you could check your mainboards website for new bios. There is a pretty good chance that new ones were or are going to be released.

Anyways the pricedrops and new procs don't matter to me. I'm waiting for the X6800 to drop. Oh and here is something to look at.

Seems rather foolish... everyone knows that the current quads are mini heaters. I wonder how much heat that thing will put off. Hope Intel has coupons for watercooling parts in the box ;)

...Mixing EVGA with XFX is a sin. EVGA boards wioth EVGA cards only please... XFX I don't care about ;)

I don't see a problem with it but then again, I don't have any experience with XFX. I assume some of it was donated for marketing reasons.

they make the same stuff, when i was deciding on a motherbaord i noticed that the only difference in the 680i boards was the name tag.

but if they want fast why would they only go with 2gbs... dumb, either go all out or don't waste money.
