Hi,all. This my first project, and I am going to make my own laptop. I have always wanted to make my own laptop just for pure gaming, with my own design. This machine is going to be made of brush aluminum. Is going to have .12'' lcd at 1280x1024
.Analog stick for FPS games
.Illuminated Mini keyboard
.4'' touch screen (to navigate, and also for aiming for FPS games, got this idea from Nintendo DS)
. Mouse buttons next to touch screen for shooting
. USB wireless for online gaming
.USB HDTV TV TUNER

Computer Spec
.Mini-ITx Motherboard
.Corsair 1gb 6400
.ATI 2400
.350 GB Hard Drive
-Intel 6300 core 2 duo
.Laptop DVD-RW
.Dual Boot Winxp with Gamex booting instead of windows Desktop for gaming and UBUNTU

Really sorry for not explaining enough about the project, dont have enough time. Will do this later tomorrow since im doing this at my job.
Here are the sketch how the project is going to look like.

That is a pretty cool idea. Man that thing is huge! 21" wide. wow. any idea what material your going to make it out of? Hopefully something light.

Good luck, and by the way, Welcome to TBCS!

I've always wanted to build my own laptop, especially out of aluminum. I'll have to watch this, whether you fail or succeed, it should be educational none the less.

Good luck, don't give up, work hard, measure twice, cut once. ;)

That design looks pretty nice

Have you bought all the parts yet? Where'd you find a Socket 775 Mini-ITX mobo? I looked for one but couldn't find any, I'm interested in what one of those would cost...

775 mini-itx boards do exist. But that got me thinking the ATi 2400 is PCI-E, not sure i have seen a mini-itx board that does x16 electrically and with 775. Infact i havent ever seen one with 775 for sale on pics and specs.

edit:I stand corrected 775 and PCI-E x16 electrically i believe (http://www.ibasetechnology.net/mi900.html)

4gb of ram too! thats one bitchin' board. not a price anywhere though... google came up with no where to buy it.

design looks great, i only see one possible concern and thats the touchscreen under the mouse buttons, wouldnt you be leaning your wrist on it?

go for the mod!...could look awsome 8D

"off topic"
is it posible to get a "wire" that extends (spelled?) the pci-e port so you can put the gfx wherever you want?

Already have the system running with ATI 2400 video card (not mobile) in another case. luckily i was able to find intel mini-itx motherboard that includes Pci-e 16x at a computer fair, and have the video card running it on this mobo. For those interested in finding a pci-e 16x on mini-itx http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS9842559695.html
For those wondering how the analog we be use with mouse buttons.Analog will be use for aiming, and whenever i dont want to use analog, i will use touch screen for aiming, just like nintendo ds.

Wow, haven 't seen one that small before.

Scotty
08-10-2007, 08:31 PM
Ah i see.

@boy. If you haven't seen something as small as a mini-itx, you should look at nano-itx's and pico-itx.

What cpu are you using for it? You said a C2D but that won't work in that board, that's a 478/479 so that would be a mobile C2D.
