Tried upgrading XP to Vista and BSoD'd!
I used my Vista 32 bit disk to upgrade my copy of XP 32 bit, but it BSoD'd! Whenever I start up I get this:
How do I have it boot directly to old and just skip this screen? XP is still totally intact too. I tried to msconfig and check the boot paths, but that doesn't fix it. Any clue?
Re: Tried upgrading XP to Vista and BSoD'd!
are yo booting from the disc or the hard drive first ?
Re: Tried upgrading XP to Vista and BSoD'd!
I think you have to revert the boot loader
Re: Tried upgrading XP to Vista and BSoD'd!
You might try Right Clicking on "My Computer" and selecting Properties from the Menu.
Then Select the "Advanced" Tab at the top.
You should see a "Startup and Recovery" section. Click the button next to that.
At the top of that box you will see Default Operating system with a Drop down under that. Select the option "Earlier Version of Windows" and set the time out to what ever you want or just uncheck the "Time to display list of operating systems" and hopefully that will do it for you.
Another way is to look for a hidden file called boot.ini in the root of your C: drive. You can edit that one, but unless you are certain on what to change, I don't recommend it.
Good luck and hope this helps!

I'm gonna leave it alone. I'll be wiping XP and doing a clean install of Vista soon

Agreed. I have a similar issue that I will try to fix with what you said.
I had XP on my main drive and Win7 Beta on my 80gig 'D' drive. I've removed and reformated the 80gig for backing stuff up for my migration to Win7, but the option to boot Win7 is still there.
Come to think of it I have this problem on my dads computer (my old one while I lived there), it has boot options of XP and Longhorn... lol

Nope, still shows the boot option. :( Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Boot to your XP CD and hit R for a first repair. At the command prompt type fixboot, tell it yes and let it do its thing, then type fixmbr, yes, let it do its thing and it should boot back to XP like normal.
When you dual boot it rewrites the boot stuff for the OS that's installed first. What the above does is put it back to default.
