project: Fukushima Reactor Rebuild
OK... so yeah... this is post number one on this forum... so i figured i would make it a good one... first off... i have used this forum before to sift threw ideas... and get some tech help... but i figured since i am starting a big project of my own (started it 2 weeks or so ago) i might as well contribute to this site...
enough intro...
time for the thoughts and ideas and were i am now...
first off... i live in okinawa japan... so this last tsunami and earthquake... didn't really effect us... we got like 1 meter waves... no big deal here... but... with my job and who i work for we have been affect for the last few months and work as really been picking up... until these last few weeks... and since i needed a new case for my editing comp... i figured i would dedicate it to the reason i a have been so busy lately...
FUKUSHIMA REACTOR NUMBER 1 is the main thing i am trying replicate... i have no type of skills what so ever out side of satellite communications specialist... so i have no clue what i was doing when i started... and using this site and others i got were i am now
this is the image i wanted to recreate with my case
the reactor on the left... and its cooling tower in the middle...
i got a freebee fish tank from a friend i helped out... tit for tat baby
as you can see using simple strips of perforated metal from the local hardware store (makeman) and some alan screws and bolts i started the base...
i built the top and base basically the same... the top will get more reinforcements to help with the wait of other components that wont get submerged
if i need to do any kind of upgrading or repair to the pc i made some simple ass flip out tabs for resting it on the edge of the tank so it can drip dry before working on it
this is a moch up mother board power supply hdd's and cd drive to test fit with...
my original idea was to use an old pc case and tear it apart to mount the motherboard... but i found some decent eye hook screws and some safety wire to be the best option... and it would look cooler if it was just suspended in the oil
my next step was to paint it... now... keep in mind i am an art major... but i hate painting hahahaha i am a photographer not a painter hahahaha
first i did a base coat of the white similar to the fukushima towers... so that the inside and outside will have the same painted design
now this is were i am at right now on the case... the paint is applied the case is assembled... and all that is left is to add a pump some oil and get the real computer in its place... hahahah instead of this moch up... but i think i will keep the moch up in there and test it with the moch up... so i can see if it works well enough and keeps the temps down ...
BUT... thats not all...
after a few days of deliberating... my original idea was to just slap a pump into the tank and just keep the oil circulating for cooling...
NOW... i wanted to go big or go home... so i had a prechiller for my wart chiller for making homebrew... and i thought to my self... man that would make a god oil cooler (since thats what it actually is hahahaha) so i decided to do once of two things...
and this is were i need yalls help... deciding to use 1 or 2...
1 i bought some copper and twisted it up and made a tower and stuck it in it with the pump at the base... similar to the tower in the picture at the top...
keep in mind the copper will be held up in place... not just sitting there
2 i could shove the oil cooler with a fan or two on it in the tower with the pump at the base
keep in mind this will have 1 or 2 80mm fans on it to help cool even more
now remember both of these towers designs will get painted the traditional red and white striped similar to all towers so dont let the color of the copper or the black radiator fool you... its all going to be white and red
thats the color scheme... if your not familiar...
i also have some led lights that are going on top of the tower...
i also have a kit i am trying to put together... but i dont read or speak japanese... so this **** is hard hahahahahahah
http://eleshop.jp/shop/g/g401913/
that is the kit i am trying to build...
seriously... its a radiowave detector... or as they call it... radiation detector hahahahahahahahahahahaha... so if you have a wireless anything... or even just a power supply next to it... it will go off... and show up as red led's... but i bought replacement green led's so it will light up green... hahahahaha
i am going to have the case light up blue and green with some other led's also... i have been trying to figure out a way to make it smoke too hahahhahahaha but i dont think i will worry about that until it is all done and i need a new project hahahaha
ok...
so dont pass judgment too hard... and if you enjoy this... let me know... maybe later on after i am done i will make another one... and sell this one or something...
i have been thinking about making one that is a computer in the back... and a fish tank up front... or a computer on bottom and a fish tank on top... not a hard thing to make... just need to get back state side and buy some cheaper stuff...
Re: project: ***ushima Reactor Rebuild
dont mind the dog bone in the back ... but this is how she looks right now...
shes HUGE...
so its going to get its own desk too hahahaha...

Re: project: Fukushima Reactor Rebuild
So uh good news bad news time...
Good news is I FINALLY GOT A JOB STATESIDE I LIKE!!!! Sorry for the caps im excited .. I will be working i maryland sooo that means after almost 4 years im coming back to america.... Maryland isnt texas but its definitely not qatar or japan hahahahahahah
Bad news .... I only got two weeks to finish this thing and get it were i want it with out putting oil in it then pack it up and ship it to Merica!!! So... This could be put on hold for up to 3 months because how long it takes for international house hold good shipments
So... Im sorry for the one or two people who actually even care hahahaha
But tomorrow night at work i will be assembling the radiation detection board hahahah. And then monday or tuesday i will try and finish the tower... And maybe paint it ...
So anyone in the havre de grace to riverside area in maryland want to help me finish this or start my next tank in september... I should be moved in and ready to go by then. Thanks for reading
Re: project: Fukushima Reactor Rebuild
ooh, havre de grace isn't too far away from me. only about an hour drive or less.
hit me up when you get here. i'd love to meet up and check this out in person.
edit: i see riverside is even closer to me.
Re: project: Fukushima Reactor Rebuild
Congrats on the job! I'm guessing it's at Phillips or Aberdeen? Yeah, there are a few of us in the central MD area. I'll have to add you to my list. :D
As for the project, it sounds interesting. Not very many full-immersion mods around here.

yeah and the town house in river side looks like it has a fenced in back yard and a deck... plus a basement for homebrew... because beer making is very very very important hahahahah

i think this one and my next one (the half fish tank half computer is going to be fun) the only issue i have with the next one is i have to make sure i move into my new place before i start it... because i dont know were i want it or how big or small i want it
