Switch woes
I added a switch into my network for the following reasons
1) There are 4 desktops that occupy the 4 ethernet ports on my router.
2) We have guests pretty often
3) sometimes i don't want to use wifi with my laptop (streaming videos off of it is the best example.)
BUT heres my problem. Since i added the switch i can't connect to any of the devices connected to the router. my network looks like this
Code:
[Router] -|-------|----------|---------|------|
[Desktop 1] [Desktop2] [Desktop3] [Switch] [WIFI]
|
[Desktop4]
Is there some way to reconnect my switch devices?

Re: Switch woes
are you sure you have the cable going from the router to the switch in the right spot? usually there's an uplink position on the switch or a switch to change one position from normal to uplink. some super gank-smank switches will auto switch one position too.

Re: Switch woes
Yes, i have a 10M straight thru cable running to the uplink port on the switch, dekstop 4 has internet access, just not access to devices connected to the router.

Re: Switch woes
is it a dumb switch or a programmable switch? maybe you have something funky going on with your addresses or subnet masks.

Re: Switch woes
should be jsust a plain old dumb switch

Re: Switch woes
Can you see the devices in your network and just not access them? Or can you not see them at all?

Re: Switch woes
Hold up, i see them on the network map...... and now i can get in... wth... well i guess i just needed to refresh the network map and everything worked... fml moment.
