Sub?

OK, I've fallen in love with these desktop speakers. When 20% volume is 'comfortable listening level', imagine it at 100%. And I've been near there; no perceivable distortion, great built-in EQ.

The bass in them is really nice. I'm just thinking about taking it a step further.

This is my current setup:

Input A is the tower, input B is for MP3 hookup. Another reason I love these speakers.
One problem: Has anyone seen JUST a sub with the 1/8" hookup?

For the quality of sub that would be compatible with that or the amount you'll spend to build your own you're better off without the sub or buying a new sound system. Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: The subwoofer that was supposed to go with that unit is the ACS251.

Buy/make a 3.5mm to rca interconnect and then grab an amped home theater sub to go with.

Where's a good place to grab a decent line-powered sub?

Plenty of places I would assume. Newegg, Amazon as well as whatever consumer electronics and hifi stores you have in the states.

I highly recommend just grabbing a >$100 set of Logitech 5.1 speakers from Best Buy or WalMart. I have always been impressed with their quality through the years. They come with a wall powered sub. The ones I have, I've hit up some of the "extreme subwoofer test" audio on YouTube and some of the stuff that's down in the >20Hz range simply shakes the desk. Truly amazing for a smallish subwoofer that I can fit behind my monitor.

Partsexpress.com is the best place for building your own sub, or you can always keep a lookout at your local thrift store. Sometimes you can find some nice floorstanding speakers that have 12" woofers that can handle the subwoofer input.

Here's a 2nd vote for partsexpress.com. It's where I got my parts for my companion cube sub woofer project.

You can do pretty well by getting some cheap parts and just assembling them well.
