Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
One of my friends brought a computer to me.
Said it was missing RAM and an HDD. (and a few cables)
Open it up, 700W PSU. (That's how I was able to power my graphics card.)
Also found was a Core 2 Quad Q6600.
Alas, it's a DDR2 Gateway board.
My question is: Should I buy a whole new 775 board with DDR3 RAM?
Or just buy DDR2 RAM?
The biggest thing is, it's a 5-PCI-port BTX case.
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
775 mobos and ddr3 ram are cheap enough I'd go that route.
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
depending on the plans for it, just throw a few gigs of ram in it and call it a day.
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
new mobo/ram/case. You can pick up a decent case for cheap.
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
I'm kinda nervous about it being a Gateway motherboard.
I do need to test it, though, before actually purchasing RAM, though.
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
OK, my mom says she likes the look of the case.
And the front panel headers aren't proprietary! (yay!) Standard audio, USB, 1394(x2), power.
AND, I have a spare ATX tray!
I smell another worklog.
yay
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
I have a bunch of parts for sale from my computer parts craigslist ad. Let me know if you need anything from that, including the case.
Re: Just RAM? Or new MoBo and RAM?
Thanks, D. I'll shoot you and Billygoat PMs if I need anything from you guys.
(great, now "D." is having me think of a one-eyed frown-y guy.)
