You probably could upgrade the motor, controller, and batteries without too much difficulty. It's only rated for 140 pounds though, and that's at low speed. An adult at higher speeds would not be to friendly to the frame and wheels.
Here's a lot of good information, whether you are modifying the razor or building a kart from scratch:

Yeah... a grand is a bit too much for a fun little toy like that. Oh well.
It wouldn't be anywhere near that much if you just modified the razor.
How about adding auto nav guidance along a set course.
The Crimson Sky makes his first post in over a year (one of only four in the last 2 years) on a go-kart modding thread? Is it just me, or could there be some account hacking shenanigans? If no shenanigans, then
Just seems odd.
I would put a Craigslist, and similar ad up for a old go kart chassis, and see what happens. With that, you could do anything you want. Be it a high-torque electric setup (like x88x), RC, or what I'd do and build a red neck shifter cart with the biggest engine I could find...
I myself have had a few go kart frames, and mini bike frames laying around over the years rusting away. You can find them out there... Or practice welding, and pick up some square tubing...
^The welding route is what my brother is doing (eventually...)
