My new toy.
UPS just dropped off my latest acquisition. This will be my first AMD setup since my old K6-III. I have little hope that it will perform any better than my i5-2400, but I would like to try messing around with coreboot and that is a much more AMD friendly project.

Re: My new toy.
I can't speak as to intel/amd performance specifically (fastest intel I own is a 775 Q6700) but I have one of the 8 core AMD Black Editions (8120) and it does everything I need and then some so I'm sure you'll be happy :)

Fastest Intels I own are A: some Pentium D 3.4, B: Q6600.

Re: My new toy.
I've been lurking on this forum for years now, and I still have yet to do a case mod. I'm thinking that this build should be the first. I was kicking around the idea of setting up a thread on the forum and having a committee based build to stir up board member involvement. What do you guys think? The first poll question could be case mod or scratch build.

Re: My new toy.
Either or. If you have a good case then go with casemod. if you want alot of work, go with a scratch build lol.

Re: My new toy.
I don't have a case for this one yet. The whole point is to see if you guys think this would be an interesting project and if the forum members would want to get involved.
By making each step of the build process a vote, it's not just the product of one person's work.

idn - the thing with modding is (or tends to be) it's a reflection of the modder - otherwise you're effectively becoming just a tool instead of an artist :P
I'd get yourself a basic outline/plan initially, then invite people to provide input on some of the details etc so you can still have YOUR mod but you can involve people

Re: My new toy.
I think it's a nice idea. I would split the middle, though. Get some concepts out there and then post them up for voting and feedback. That way you get your own artistic stamp on it, but the end product will probably be better for the feedback and input along the way as well.

Re: My new toy.
I'd say get an older case, but mod it to the point of looking like a brand-new one.
But that's just my style. There's plenty of ATX cases in the world.
