homemade pc power remote.
Is there a tutorial or kit that can be bought so you can turn on your pc with a remote control. I have seen the ones you can buy from newegg but the style of the remote control doesnt fit the style of my bf2 mod. I plan to make the remote look like the c4 detonator.
Any help is greatly apreciated.
THANKS
Re: homemade pc power remote.
My motherboard came with one, that's all I have to offer. Though I doubt you'd want to buy a new motherboard. I'm sure you can buy a remote for it and then just mod on top of it. Or just buy a remote, build a new case for the remote, and put the parts from the one you bought inside it.
Re: homemade pc power remote.
i'm not to sure about this either but if i was going to try this i would go and buy a small rc car, like this
then i would take it apart and hook up the lines going to the motor to the power switch. but now that i write this i'm not sure thats such a good idea. i don't know if any power is suspose to be sent through those wires. but out might be able to build some kind of spining disc that could connect 2 contacts and act like someone pressed the power button. thats all i can think of though.
Re: homemade pc power remote.
What if I get this and modify the remote to run off some AAA batteries and make it look like the detonator. I would also get rid of the blue leds for some red ones on the panel. And the fan controler part would go.
Re: homemade pc power remote.
Well you could get a Media Center PC Case they come with remotes alot of the time.
Here is a universal PC Remote: From StreamZap

Re: homemade pc power remote.
I think I may go with the one I posted just because all I need is an on off. The M.C. remote looks good but it is a bit big and a little overkill for my needs. Of course I will be voiding the warranty so every penny saved is good. Thanx for the suggestions from everyone though.
EDIT: I plan to make the panel look like it belongs in the theme as well. The temp control would be a good feature to have too. hummmmm... Anyone know where I can get a tutorial on makeing one of these from scratch?
Re: homemade pc power remote.
yes i would go with the simple on/off switch that you posted. but i would go with AA's for a bigger explosion.
Re: homemade pc power remote.
The relay is the important part--you can hack the remote fob into any shape you want, with any type button with a little soldering. It's basicaly just a momentary switch. Always get more channels than you plan. I suggest at least 4, so you can hook up lights and other gadgets, like sound effects.
Kits are VERY easy to assemble, all you need is a soldering iron. Reynolds even has some very cool antennas.

Re: homemade pc power remote.
Thanx for the suggestion Crimson, just a one question. If I do go with this remote and receiver, how would I go about tuning on the pc? Do any of the receivers have momentary as well as on/off? Also, how would I go about re-wiring the remote so I can change the layout of the buttons?
I guess thats more then one question:) .
Thanks again.
EDIT : I could use the same setup crimson used in the Doom 3 here. Then I can wire all of my stuff to the board and if I mess-up the remote there only $10. Oh, how would I solder the remotes buttons to use different buttons since it most likely uses the touch pad things? Thanks
