Project: Spawn
Here are some pics of my current mod of Spawn, any comments/suggestions are welcome. Hope you'll enjoy. Cheers!
Here's the stock image of the case:
Here are some beginner pics of the case, I just tapped off the front to make Spawn's symbol
The idea for the case came from the comics itself, I wanted to convey the comic feel for the case. Even read through the first 50 or so comics to get some ideas :D
Here we have pics of the side panel complete with a crappy looking nibbled case window, for this I used a grinding bit to chop up the paint a little for that worn armor look, then did a few coats of red paint topped off with a little india ink smeared into the panel for a dirty worn armor look, the window molding I purchased wasn't the right length :(. Soon I am ordering some more, I also have a special piece that is going into the window, none other than a #1 issue of Spawn signed by Todd McFarlane himself. Onto the pics:
Now for some interior pics...for this I wanted the interior to represent Spawn's burnt body. So I bought some bronze hammered style paint for the interior of the chassis, topped it with a little dap of tissue for a ripped look in spots then another coat of the hammered paint, then did a black and red mist over it for a little detail. The results are below:
Now for some later images of the case after I got my decals and badge for the front:
Here's a pic of the front panel with led:
Hope you enjoyed the pics thus far....plenty more I'm doing with it.

Re: Project: Spawn
Thats a great start. Cant wait to see the rest. Welcome to TBCS!

Re: Project: Spawn
Would it be possible to cut the eyes out of the spawn logo so they too glow green? Thats one image I always have of spawn is those intense green eyes.
Can't wait to see more.

Re: Project: Spawn

Re: Project: Spawn
Some new pics of the front badge with no eyes so I can get the green glow through the front...
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Worklog Update...I've finished the side panel led which is shown below:
Also I have the front panel pics with the updated badge with glowing eyes :D, you may also notice the front panel led which stock is blue I originally ripped a xbox 360 psu led out so I could change between green, orange, and red. However there is a coating over the led which make it look really crappy. Thus I had an extra high bright green led laying around that I decided to throw in. All these pics are below. Hope you enjoy, sorry the picture quality isn't the greatest. More to come soon!

Re: Project: Spawn
Worklog Update 1/22/08: Here are some pics of what I consider the center point of the case mod....the signed #1 comic by Todd McFarlane. This will be going where the case window will be with a uv light to add some glow....
Also here is the Certificate of Authenticity for the non believers if any :D
Last but not least is the UV Spawn Icon that will be on the case window....what does everyone think should I use this or do you think it would take away from the comic...?????
Hope you all enjoy my mod....I appreciate any feedback and ideas. Cheers!

Re: Project: Spawn
Very nice work so far, keep it up.

Re: Project: Spawn
oh mah gawd.... i need to clean my pants after seeing your first issue there.... ive loved spawn since i was little... had my own spawn themed case started but abandoned it quickly cuz i didnt have the skill i needed to do it
maybe one day ill pick back up my spawn case ideas
id say leave that uv sticker off...it would detract from the comics awesomeness
maybe you could do a right pane window and put it on there....then do somethin cool with the backside of the mobo tray?
-
Re: Project: Spawn
sweet comic and sweet mod. Let me add a quick warning, UV light will deteriorate the inks in the cover of your comics. It will actually fade them, which in the long run will of course decrease the value and look of the comic. If you really want the comic in the window, maybe a color copy of it will work to help protect the original.
Keep up the good work.

Re: Project: Spawn
Thanks for the info, that's something I will keep in mind I may be changing the lighting to a hellfire effect rather than UV
-
Re: Project: Spawn
I put a header in your first post.
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Awesome love the header, Thanks
-
Re: Project: Spawn
WORKLOG Update 01/25/08: Finally I got the right amount of window molding, so I installed the window, got the comic in and the spikes back in keep in mind the extra space between the edge of the comic and the window will have a hellfire effect led:D....what do you think????
-
Re: Project: Spawn
I second the vote to make a copy of the cover, and put the copy into the window. Even the heat from the PC may degrade the condition of the comic.
You could make a color copy of the cover onto a transparency, and then backlight it from inside the case.. that would look pretty wild. :)
-
Re: Project: Spawn
DO NOT PUT INSIDE THAT COMIC DUDE <!>
Maybe its little to late, but it would be better to etch cover on window. Then paint it with uv paints. E.g. "necroplazm"(AFAIR this is proper name ...) and "Header" with green, Spawn's hell cape with red.
And the backlight it.
Would it good.

Re: Project: Spawn
Looks great mate, I also agree. Don't put that comic in the window, get a colour copy.
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Hey all, most of you know that I'm an artist by my sig, If you guys would like to see, I'll draw my own pic of Spawn and then make it look etched on the computer everyone can get and idea of the etch effect, if enough of you like it I will certainly use it and etch it onto the acrylic. Cheers!

Re: Project: Spawn
Does anyone have any ideas for the Spawn etching, I'm thinking of making him look as if he is recessed back in the case, with maybe his cape coming out towards the front. Stay tuned! Spawn sketches to come soon!
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Here are my votes in order from High to Low
#1 - It is at the very end of the movie where Spawn is crouching on the cross on top of the church and his cape is sweeping across the side of him. I know there is a comic with this image in it, but I ust can't seem to find it
#2 Cover 143
#3 Spawn
If I find the first image I am talking about I will update my post
-
Re: Project: Spawn
I love that cover on issue 143!, that may be what I go with. Been tossing Ideas around of maybe layering the acrylic to produce a 3D effect for his necroplasm. I was also thinking about doing his "King Chair" in the alley with him. BTW I have the first 50 issues, so I'll take a look around and see if I can find that first one too. Thanks for the suggestions
-
Re: Project: Spawn
I second the vote for 143. spawn was always a great comic. +rep for all teh hard work that would make Mcfarland proud
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Alright Guys check it out Issue 143 with a Acrylic touch, The green glow is representing the glow effect I hope to achieve by blacking out some of the acrylic :D
Here's a representation of it with blackout
or how bout issue #70 always loved that one and the blackout with the glow might look awesome
-
Re: Project: Spawn
-
Re: Project: Spawn
I vote for second one.
Simple and can turn out awesome
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Here's another cover with the black out acrylic that looks pretty neat, sorry the quality isn't as good....
-
Re: Project: Spawn
That one the last one... That is the one for the side.
-
Re: Project: Spawn
Would also be the hardest to etch.\, appart from the first pic.
