Yea, i just got a XP Pro SP2 32bit key from my girlfriend's dad to try if activating online doesn't work.
I'm going to stop the miscom right here. :)
When you said install with a regular disc, then run the upgrade, I assumed (and I wonder if Locum did too..) that you meant "install XP first, then upgrade to 7."
That explains my suggestion of "xp wont progress without a key". :)

If you DO install XP first, then upgrade to Windows 7, DO NOT ACTIVATE THE XP if you are using a Key from someone else!
You can install XP with someone elses key, then run the upgrade to 7, XP does not need to be activated.
Earlier in the thread you said that nothing was coming up on the screen when you first booted it. Then someone mentioned something about your RAM, what exactly was the problem?
