Official TBCS Folding Team

Cool. I'll keep an eye on it.

I've got an X48-DS4 coming in, along with a new set of 2x2GB ram, and a cooler to run until I finish one of these mods and can get the watercooling back up. That should help me get the cpu running a bit faster and leave another spot for an 8800GTS. Not the 20/30/40k of a 2600k rig, but far cheaper and should keep me going for a bit. On the plus side this will let me put my board in the fiance's rig, which means her e6300 will hit 2.8ghz easy on the ram I currently have. Win-win for the both of us, and my brother or cousin will get the other motherboard.

Actually, his average is 6 million a day. There were seveal days where he didn't fold at all...which brought down the average. He has produced over 15 million points in one day! That is an achievement!
Maybe a large render farm or an actual supercomputer...
The cool thing about the Tracker is that it pauses for 'games'. But the game list is just a text file with the *name*.exe in a list. You can add any program to the list that you want. So it could be idling silently in the background while projects are being computed and any downtime is automatically turned into folding time which pauses again when the next job starts.

Folding itself is a super-low priority program.

So, unless the program is also a SLP program, it has more CPU authority than folding.

Can someone update the first post with links and info on getting started? I think we might get some more people if we didn't have to hunt through this thread for info.

I'm going to try and get signed up soon when I'm at home. I'm in the process of getting a Dell PowerEdge up and running and I'll be sure to have it running on there.

I looked into getting rid of, or merging teams and it just isn't done - we have no other option, at this time, than to let them fall into obscurity.

As for getting things a little more organised - that's something I'm working on at the moment. I'm trying to get us a seperate forum section for the folding team so we can have different threads for tips, links, suggestions, questions etc - this thread is now almost 500 posts long so yeah, a way to break it up some would be good...

Looks like everything except the 24-hr average is good now. I'm guessing the overtakes are estimated by the 24-hr average as well, though, so those are probably also wonky...according to that, Trace won't pass me for another month...and I rather doubt it'll take that long. The only question is which one of us three will hit 1,000,000 points first. ;)

I'm kinda confuzzled - I'm folding on the PC I built for a client (as a thorough burn in of course) and it's a 2600k o/c to 4.0Ghz - the PPD claims to be around 23k BUT in 2 hours it's only gotten 48% of the way thru a 552 point WU...

Now I know I'm one of the older guys here but I don't think math has changed that much since I was at school.... Assuming 4 hours for a WU - that's 6 WU per day - how the hell does 6x552 come to 23,000????

I am a member of the EVGA Folding team and have decided to fold a little here and there to help you guys a little since I read the forums often.

Slave, it could be that you are looking at the ppd with the bonus points already calculated. My 3.8 920 gets around 16-17k ppd on smp units/

And I got this following link about the big ppd folder posted a few posts back. It has the hardware details in it.

Are you using the -smp 8 or -bigadv flags?

I use the FAH GPU tracker V2 - I have SMP selected but not -bigadv as the pc is still brand new and occasionally having to be changed in some way - I've heard those units can take 2-3 days to finish and there's every chance the PC will be with its new owner by then - don't want to start something I can't finish :P

the FAH Tracker V2 automatically calculates the bonus points in so as long as you have completed 10+ smp work units (with the user name / passkey ) it will be fairly accurate.

You guys just keep upping the ante - not only have we just had two record days in a row, we also just had our first million point week, and as at 9am today we've already produced as nearly 20,000 more points than we had yesterday by the same time!!

i should be dropping my first bigadv WU today... if it's anything like smp tracker says it is i should jump up ~60-80k points. lol... 92%

3 days. lol... at 20k ppd, so about 60k... i just hope i can actually get the upload done in time to get the bonus, ill be working smp for the weekend tho, that way i can game

Bigadv are BIG work units - a serious machine, like i7 running overclocked around 4ghz will get through a single WU in 2-3 DAYS - an i5 won't cut it as it doesn't have the hyperthreading needed to provide enough process threads to finish the job within the deadline

I just upgraded my iMac from a 1.83 Ghz Core Duo to a 2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo, which gave it a 500 PPD increase. Surprising increase for less than 200 Mhz speed bump and a slight architecture change.

My current WU says it's 2,000,000 steps. Is that alot? It took like 11hrs. to get to 50%. I chose normal when I was setting it up.

I'm running FAH 6.34 SMP 32-bit. Is that the latest? Is there a 64bit flavor?

They are also Huge uploads, and are pretty time sensitive, with the net connection you have you might not get the file to the server on time, so try it in 1 unit mode before you start running them, also, they need 3 days of Continuous work. and the due date is usually just in time for an i7@3.6 to make it. ymmv

For a dual core thats pretty normal, the cpu client is on the slower side, it takes my i7 about 6 hours @3.8, and my p2x4 about 8-12, so for a dual core i would expect about a day per wu.

I have a quad core @ 2.8

hrm... thats strange then... screen shot? are you using gpu tracker? or the Standford client.

I think you're probably right. :( That bigadv unit really put him over. I'll probably hit 1,000,000 about 1 day later.

not if you have a dual socket board, the big adv wu's actually need that many cores to get finished by the deadline.
the i7's get in through a loop hole.
