The plan for today was to find a solution for my moveable covering plate. If I won't find a working mechanism i would stop this part completely an build a plate which I have to remove manually. What should I say? I DID IT!

I found a solution for my main problem: Caused by the asymetric assembly of covering plate and carriage there are forces which rotate the carriage. While moving in one direction the carriage "jumps" on the guidiance. This problem has been solved by a steel ball at the right position of the carriage. This ball becomes pressed by a M6 screw. The forces produced by the rotatin will now be absorbed by the ball. And it works!!!

Tomorrow I will finally mount the moveable front and make some new Pics.

Thats cool stuff you are working on! I am happy you found a solution for the problem with the sliding plate. Looking forward to see video of it! Did the printer use a normal DC motor? Because all the printers I disasembled yet used stepping motors...

yes! the motor is a normal dc motor. the motors for the papermovement are stepping motors. but the one for moving the ink cartridge is a normal DC motor. He gets its position by a light barrier

Unfortunately I have to tell you that i won't be able to continue with the "external" modification for about 3 weeks. I'm studying mechanical engeneering and my next semester starts on monday. Today I have to pack my stuff and tomorrow I'll drive to my habitation. Unfortunately I have no workshop there. The upcomming weekends I will celebrate my birthday ;) and enter a contest in rescue swimming (my largest hobby :) ) After that I will mod very quickly to finish this mod until 11. April because this is the deadline for the Germand CaseMod Master I will enter hopefully!

But I won't be inactive during this time. I will use it to build the elektronical things like alarm-system, the status-lcd for the alarm and so on. Also I will emulate Froop and create some Movies.

I have to tell you a litte idea a member of the german forum told me: Dunring moving the Front there will be some red LEDs wich will fade during the movement to get a picture of a signal lamp :)

That's it. I hope you aren't mad because there will be only litte updates for a couple of weeks.

I really like that system you have for moving the front panel, and i admit i had someone nick my entire SCSI system from my machine at a lan party, a SCSI card worth £300 and 2 HDD's and 4Optical drives one of which held 6 CD's.

When i get some funds together i might make a new system and go to the next iLAN party.

Need to rent some workshop space or a garage.

Sorry to hear this one get put aside for a little bit, but life does have it's priorities.

I'm liking the front panel better then some other cases, where they have little doors and whatnot, because they jerk and bounce.

How are you going to run the motor when it boots up?
