Anyone want a nlite or vlite tut?

Half way through writing and capturing the screen shots for the Nlite tut which applies to Win 2K, XP and Server 2003. I'm doing it using Win 2K however it's exactly the same process irrespective of OS.

I've slipstreamed a service pack and am at the stage of integrating drivers. Have already downloaded an old Nvidia Forceware 70 which is the youngest Win2K compatible version so will be covering out of date hardware integration.

Will also be covering minimising the footprint of the install, cutting out elements of windows most users don't use and turning off services. All this increases boot and shutdown performance a lot as well as in-use performance. The last Win2K install I did was an iso of 220M compared to the standard of around 317M. Once files are extracted we're talking about a much smaller footprint for the OS. That one shuts down in under ten seconds on a PIII 733Mhz though boot is still around 40 seconds.

The Vlite one will follow quickly because its the same process basically and I will just use the Nlite one as a base.

I wonder if I could slim down XP enough to let it run on a P1 laptop, that would be sweet, doubt it though.

Better starting with 2000. It's pretty much the same under the hood anyway.

I got 2000 running ok on a P1 mmx laptop @266 MHz, or whatever it is without vlite, so it should run ok if you remove a few things.

Well I could run 2000 on a P1 without stripping it down at all, a tad bit on the slow side but still. I think it would be nice to run XP though if I could, not to mention I do not actually have a copy of 2000, whereas I have an unused copy of XP...

My copy of xp pro, purchased from U-M has unlimited installs and requires no activation; same with office xp. It's really nice.

Sorry for delays guys ... Nlite tut is nearly done but my health is screwing me up badly and concentration to finish it is lacking.
