Re: Best Linux File Server Distro?
Would FreeNAS allow him to torrent though? I was under the impression that NAS was intended just for storage rather than a more complex server.
Also if you are willing to work with windows, the new version of Microsoft Home Server is in Beta and seems to be pretty stable. Even the retail version of Home Server is less than $100. I only mention this as I've heard it's fairly easy to use for beginners and being based on Windows can run Window's apps if needed.
Re: Best Linux File Server Distro?
The Beta is being downloaded now.
My dual core atom sits at the little flashy DOS thing during boot of any installed linux distro. I've tried xubuntu, unbuntu, live from the disc, ubuntu works, but installed fails to boot, and I wasn't able to boot xubuntu or install it
Re: Best Linux File Server Distro?
I take that back, I got Ubuntu to boot, and so far is functioning perfectly as I wanted. Much simpler than a Windows machine ever would.
Re: Best Linux File Server Distro?
i use windows XP media center edition for my fileserver... and it works beautifully
Re: Best Linux File Server Distro?
