so here are the first shots with it

Looks great so far. Almost a mirror finish.
Keep up the great work.
That does look great. Nice clear pics also.
yeah...its almost to where i want it....ill take by some friends and get it to a nice mirror finish
ok UPDATE TIME!
just a small one...
i started workin on my design for the inside....im gonna make a 1 piece cover for the inside....will look something like this..
all layed out for the mold
all cut to size
ill start working on the inside part of the template later tonight possibly, after dinner
what do you guys think?
That will be a great window. I always liked "non-traditional" windows on a PC. I'll be waiting for that update tonight :P
Ahhh I got ya. Must have missed that part.
2 UPDATES IN THE SAME DAY??!? i think so!
so i got a bit more work done on the framing of the fiberglass mold...
got the two base supports all mounted....
and the first side wall...
i should be able to finish the framing up tomorrow fairly early....which means tomorrow evening ill start laying down fiber
what do you guys think?
I think its awesome that your using a mold. I can't recall the last person that used that in a mod. Very nice! +rep to keep ya going :D
Nice side. I can see where this is going.
UPDATE TIME
alrighty.. as you know, ive been working away at my motherboard cover mold. i got the sore throat thing goin around and after i got better i decided to take a small break from that and focus on the back of the case a bit and get a lil practice with the fiberglass
but first...i made a lil friend the other night
this lil guy decided to come in and visit for a bit....
on with the update...
i made a flat sheet of fiber to cover the back..itll help in the future when i have a couple of other mods i need to do
i then cut it down to near size....ill sand/file it down the rest of the way when i get the rest of the cuts drawn and done
next thing i worked on today was cutting out the honeycomb on the rear 120mm fan
i didnt get a pic of the finished cuts ...but its all cleaned up
tomorrow ill try to get a full day towards this back panel
your thoughts?
thoughts...if that winged devil bat of an insect came into my work area he would of been blasted with a pump shotty.
Lookin good. I'll wait for tomorrows update to say more
UPDATE TIME
alrighty...i decided to take some time to update while bondo hardens...
today was more work on the back panel, taking it from the sheet of fiber to the final shape (roughly, still need to figure out placement for the PSU)
i laid down my basic outline for the back panel
then got to cutting
i knew it would be a lil trouble getting dimensions correct (so it looked right when mounted) so i cut it a lil oversized
i then followed up with mounting it to the back of the case and tracing out the fanhole and the edges of the IO ports etc
and all cut out..
i followed this with mounting it back to the case and taking my sanding drum on a dremel to the fan hole and a file to the edges along the ports..
after i got it all cut.. i laid some bondo, to even up the surface, there were some valleys in the resin of the fiberglass
and whil i had the bondo out, i went ahead and filled the mount holes for the original window
this is where im sitting with this mod as of now,
your thoughts?
Looking good still. I just used bondo for the first time today.... Dude its soo messy and where I put it makes it so hard to sand it... o well.
LOL that's one weird bug haha. Good to see you have done some more work. Looks great.
UPDATE TIME!
ok...this is just a bit of a small update... i painted my right panel and started polishing the paint...its about 99% of the way there...just gotta touchup a few spots and itll be done...not gonna say too much...so on with the pics!
this is where i am now....ive also done a little bit more on my back cover...ill post more pics of it when its done being sanded and i start painting
your thoughts?
WOW! Love that finish! What did you use to polish the paint?
thanks, to get my finish i laid down two coats of clear, wet sanded with 800 grit another clear coat and wet sanded with 1200, then i used some automotive polish and a buffing pad on a drill and went over it lightly and quickly...if you hold it in one place too long itll heat up the clear and cause scratching... i then went over it again with a polishing cloth
Sounds like it took awhile to do.
well the sanding/ polishing part took about an hour all together
Awesome colour buddy, so...shiny.
thanks jason, ive been workin like crazy to get as much done as possible before i move, in a couple weeks
but when this move happens...ill have a surprise for you guys :)
Oh surprises, I like surprises. Give it to me NOW....no...no I can wait lol.
UPDATE TIME
alrighty....i got some more work done today.... i hope you enjoy :)
first thing i started with removing the rivets in the top panel of the case
i then lined up the duct where it will sit in its final placement
and traced it out
next i mounted the duct supports
with the duct fully mounted...
tomorrow i shall cut out the hole in the acrylic for the duct and mount the window
your thoughts?
Very nice, but it's hard to tell with the acrylic still taped. Can't wait to see what you do with this case.
Looking good Sean.
UPDATE TIME
ok...today i decided to get more done on my back cover. its getting fairly close to being done
today i started working on my cut out for the power supply
and all cut out
i then tapped the holes where the rivets used to be, i also did this for the front end of the top
all tightened down..
here it is with the back cover mounted, and my test PSU installed... i also put in my broken fan housing just so you have a basic idea of how it will look when completed
and a full length shot
i plan on having this back panel done this weekend, so i can start adding its accent pieces....ill also get my top window mounted with the duct hole cut...also start polishing the last of the external parts that are painted
Nice back panel. Can't wait to see it finished.
oh my wow u have done alot more than i thought looks great keep it up
yeah...im really tryin to get through as much as possible for my move...by the time that happens...itll look like a basic case mod hoefully
well...ive got good news for everyone...
tonight after work i head down to my dads to pick up FL, so work on this project will be starting again!
i still have another surprise for when i get my stuff up here
YAY, I logged in just in time for the good news lol.
well... its been a while since ive updated this
lets start off with whats new with me..
to start off, ive moved back in with my mom about 100 miles from where i used to live..into an apartment. no room for modding here.
thankfully ovride here provided me with space to work on my case stuff (and maybe prod him into starting a nice mod of his own :P) so we have been working together planning new ideas, and im sure we will be pumping out some other mods here in the near future :)
anyways...lets update this thing shall we?
started cutting my side window of my case...
then ovride offered me his saw...its got frikken lazer beams
tonight i started working on my top trim...again...needed some redesign to fit with the duct
and all cut down to size..ish...need a bit off the length of it
and filing down that cut edge
after some drilling, cutting, and bending this is where im at...but im not done yet!
looks kinda nice sitting on the case
and front notch cut out
and now filing out the center line on our ghetto sanding setup :)
and a wonderful shot from ovride of me doing some filing :)
much better
so i meant to get some final shots of where FL sits now...but the battery died in my camera.... i have all the windows cut...and the top center trim done...
more to come in the near future...
finally an update woot
looks good.. tell ovride to talk to me
I'm both impressed and intrigued by the design. Consider me subscribed and anticipating more good work.
Nice work as always mate. I can't wait to see if the joint mod with ovride eventuates.
