Re: Project: New Mustang GT
I am back again, and it may not look like I've done much... and I guess I really haven't. :lick:
Anyway I don't have the same fears you all have about it cracking or anything, it really isn't that much bondo, just a thin layer. It's all sanded down now though so take a look in the next few pics. It did sort of look like frosting on a cake though.
I had to sand down places where the plastic frame was in the way and touch it up a bit a few times, because the plastic didn't sand as fast as the bondo and it poked out a bit.
And I have skipped a lot of in between steps, but that is because it was the same thing over and over again. But here it is in its current state, and just sanding a few touch ups and it will be ready to paint. I think.
Because the top fan is sucking in I think the scoop is tall enough now.
The front panel. It may not look smooth in the picture but it is quite smooth. Except for that upper right red spot.
Hood scoop again.
The back. Still needs sanding.
Inside.
Power button. I need to do something different with this, but I'm not sure what yet.
4 Yate Loon fans and 2 white cold cathodes. I took a gamble with the fans and got the cheapy ones. I got the low speed ones, and I am hoping they are quiet. Or at least moderately quiet. From Xoxide.
And Chaos Theory, you should definitely go for the mod. :D Just kidding, the meizu m8 looks nice, do what you want!

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
looking great man i like it

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Nice progress. Ya it doesn't seem you get a lot done but bondo/body work is VERY time consuming. +rep and keep at it.

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Nice man, what color(s) will you be painting it?
Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nAeftaUWYw
It's a USB CPU usage meter using an automotive tachometer, it's a pretty simple circuit actually.
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
It is going to be either Torch Red (Bright red) or Red Candy (Dark Red) with a black side tape stripe. Similar to:
or
The CPU meter was pretty cool too.
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Nice color, I like blue better but that's just my opinion :D
I hope the guy publishes the code for that CPU meter, I want one :D

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Sorry for no updates in a while, but I've been a little busy. Still working on it though!
As I have mentioned before, I cannot fully take apart the case, and only one side panel can come off, so painting the inside and out a different color is difficult, but I have managed. On to the pics!
Finally, Finally ready to paint.
Starting with the primer.
The White is plastic primer, gray is self etching.
Taped it off to paint inside black.
It looks better inside than this now.
Other black pieces and fan grills.
Yay red! This is the first coat, I am ready to paint the 3rd now. Of course there is lots of wet sanding in between.
That's all the pictures I have! Still need to cut out the window. How do you suggest I cut out plastic or acrylic or whatever it is?

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Thats a nice looking red man. Oh and look in the "modding Q&A" section. there is a thread in there about cutting plexi
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
I have sanded the final red coat with 2000 grit paper, and applied the decals!
I used some black "Wondertape" along with a mustang decal I got on Amazon.
I put the tape on wax paper and cut out strips with a fabric cutter of my mom's. Its like a pizza cutter, but for fabric. It worked great.
These pics may look like a little orange peel, but it is very smooth and just needs a clear coat or 2.
Oh, and I looked at some tips for cutting acrylic, thanks.

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Nicely done side panel, simple and good looking and functional, I like the top fan extension made into a very nice diy scoop, very nicely done so far mate, nice one :) +rep

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Are you planning on putting on enough clear to make the stripes level with the paint? It's doable but a lot of work.....
Looking really nice, btw

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
that is effin sweet man. +rep

Re: Project: New Mustang GT

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Exclusive sneak preview!
I'm almost finished!
Oh and no, Im not planning to make the stripes level, I'm out of paint and this will have to do!
Thanks for all the comments!

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
looks wicked mate! well done!
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Looks kewl as heck. The only suggestion I'd make would be to black out the inside of the scoop. Other than that LOVE it.
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
The top fan should be an exhaust one. Heat rises in your case too and it seems odd to force it cold air there. Otherwise, it's damn purty!

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Damn that looks nice!
Hopefully it doesn't give you as many problems as a real Ford. lol sorry, it was there, too easy hehe
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Nicely doen, you sure have a feel for it. Keep it up !
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Nice! I would second blacking out the inside of the scoop. +rep

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Thanks everyone!
Here are some final pictures, at least until next summer. There is more I would like to do but I have no time.
I have made a few minor changes since these pictures but things I would still like to do are:
fix the back panel i/o shield
black out inside of scoop
get a non scratchy window
organize the wiring
and some more that I cant think of right now.
Thanks for all your support!

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
wow that looks insane! i like it!

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
it looks awesome. And you should know, a project is never finished. Only on hiatus until the next idea for it comes along.
-
Re: Project: New Mustang GT
It looks great for what you had to work with.

Re: Project: New Mustang GT
Just looked through the worklog again and...
This is modding at its best imo, taking a really old pc case and making it a whole lot better nice and cheaply and you achieved this really well, I gotta confess I have been looking on ebay for the cheapest case I could find and make something good out of it for as cheap as possible just as a modders challenge kinda thing hehe :), its the whole reason I got into modding, the price of the Lian Li TYR PC-X2000 was a big part of what motivated me to make my own, that and I figured it could be done better :D.
I can see past the fan wires and the inside looks good, not hard to picture the fan wires routed out of view, what you did with the rear fan is awesome and the diy roof scoop is very well executed as is the front blower, I knew what body filler is, just did not know bondo was a term for it lol always wondered what bondo is hehe, anyway brilliant work mate :).
Flipping Awesome +rep :D.

Yeah, bondo is the most popular (or well known at least) body filler over here, so the name stuck. Kind of like Kleenex (tissues).
