man this is a great concept, and you are bringing it to life the proper way
Thanks guy's for the response. :)
Yeah i was searching on the Internet for a answer, but actually i found the answer right at home: There are 2 condense removers on it, because my dad also used the compressor for a base coat on his oldtimer car.
The tank is 100liter, not very small, but good enough for my basic experience hehe.
****, how did I miss this one!!?? I'm having fun watching the progress. Keep up the great work!
Yah, I somehow missed this too. That is looking great! I am very impressed with what I've seen so far, keep it up!
Update,
As i planned, i started with painting some parts, to be able to start with the next steps.
The brains were airbrushed black, with some dark grey at the styrene parts, to make them a little bit more visible once the cover has been placed.
I was worried when i sprayed the black layer, because on the clay it was scratch resistant, but it wasn't at all on the styrene. But after the mat clear coat it became quite strong. I guess a primer should work in this situation. I should order some more paint and clear coat anyway.
Together with the cover.
I decided to engrave some various figures into it.
Next thing to do was painting the mouth, because i can't paint the inside once it has been mounted.
It really looks like Michael Jackson!
Big black eyes, small nose, and large red lips. Is this evidence that Michael is a alien? hehe
The inside was airbrushed, the teeth were done with a brush. The lips will be smaller once the head is completely painted.
Nice, lookin' good! I love the michael jackson comparison... lol
Nice work I like what you did with the hardrive.
Wow lol... i like the HD idea it looks cool as hell. And for the michael jackson comparison...im going to have to agree with tybrenis, i Loled my pants when i saw that
This is just plain amasing! Good job so far and good luck!
Thanks!
I wish a could have posted a update past Sunday, but I've been quite busy. But today i made "a small step for a man, but a giant step for a alien" :p
As you might remember there were a few steps to be done before i could start painting the head. I've done that 2 weeks ago, and today i was able to paint it.
Here you can see his head and top together, fitted with clay offcourse.
I supposed it would be nice if there is some pattern in the clay. So i did some engraving (quite boring, it took ages). And sanded it to get it nice and smooth.
My girl agrees: boring! She decided to play a game. :lick:
After some mixing and testing i made this color, it will be the base for the alien skin.
Finished his teeth. I wanted them a little bit more yellow, i reached that by adding a little bit of yellow by the clear coat. Teeth's are now dirty & blinking. :)
Let's put it together. I also attached a RVS tube because i found out his neck was a bit small compared to the rest of his body.
Intruder!!! The little cat decided to enter my modding garage. And offcourse, trying to irritate me by biting on cables etc.
Some clay added to create his mouth.
Well, that's it.....
For 2 weeks ago, here is the rest:
After sanding his mouth i added the first layer of paint.
These pictures were made after the green, red and brown paint. While painting a saw many small scratches etc. with were hardly visible before painting. I've been sanding enough so i kept it that way. A human skin isn't perfect either.
His eye lace is done.
I put some darker green in the patterns on the top.
And airbrushed some brown too.
Here's 1 large image, because the details are hardly visible at the pictures above:
click!
That's it, I'm very satisfied with the result. 8)
Last to do with his head is adding a clear coat. I've been testing with clear coats in my airbrush, but the result was far away from acceptable. So i might give it a try with a normal spray can. Should work without problems.
BTW, 107 pictures in this topic so far, i guess that's been reached in +/- 80hours of modding. It would might be funny to see how many hours i will spend up at this case so i'm tring to count them. This update took me about 8,5 hours.
wow. i love the paint job on the alien, its not just one color of green. Nice job keep it up and it will turn out to be a great case. :D
Wow man, this is getting better and better. I can't wait to see this turn into a case!
-Dave
Thanks, i hope to keep updating regular like the past weeks. Then the case will come soon. But having the project finished will take about 1 year i guess. Also because i always have some other small modding projects etc.
Oops, forgot to say that i have a possible solution for the blood colored liquid: red wine.
AFAIK this has a bloody red color, without parts that will sink to the bottom, and won't change color after month's. (well, it doesn't when it's in a bottle)
THAT IS ART !!!
damn, and I thought it looked good in the grey-ish color...
very good job!!!
OMG !!! My neighbour is an alien!!!
anyways, when it's finished, is there any chance I might see it somewhere in real life (or dead, or half alive...)???
keep it up!
cool mod, I can't wait to see how this will look when it is done!
Cool, I'm on the frontpage! Together with the positive feedback you guys are well supporting, thanks!
That Is so awesome :) I wish I had those skills
Wow nice concept with the Air duct grill :)
I like your idea...
Can you add a laser pointer that blinks as an hdd indicator? like point it so it just barely leaves a straight line across something?
I can't do it since i dont have money to buy a laser diode:(
But it would be cool to see it on this mod:D
Good Luck cant wait to see the finished product:up:
Reminds me of the movie Alien
Im pretty new here, just found your mod. Really like this one...keep it up!
this is mod is awsome ive been following and watching your build up with Awe. i just hope i can live upto the projects ive seen on this site and yours is one of them. this would make an excellent addition to the Featured Worklogs
Thanks guy's.
Lasers will be used :) I've been working with LED's and fiber, there are green led's in his brain which light up the fibers, but that effect is hard to see in daylight circumstances. So replacing them with lasers (on the other end of the fiber) can improve the light output dramatically. All connected to micro controller or switches, depending on the effect.
They ain't that expensive, i ordered them, red diode, 5mW, and they cost about 4€. I'm waiting for information about the green lasers, those will be a bit expensive, but hopefully worth the price when comparing them to green led's in a situation where they should light up the fibers.
There will also be another light effect in the case, already made a prototype, and the effect is OK. Hopefully i can put it in this mod.
I'm working a lot with led's, got about 3000 on stock of them hehe. And plenty of green and some UV led's will be used in this case, no CCFL's, I'm not able to do the things i want to do with them due to their larger size.
Cool... Well let me know how it goes, can't wait to see more pictures. If you can, post a list of the hardware specs... I love to see what others use to make their pcs hum.
Hardware specs? Don't know, i'm not a hardware geek, i have a AMD s939 X2 3500+, 2x80GB, 1GB, 6800ultra, and that's good enough for me, i'm not a gamer, i rather spend my time on modding hehe. So when this mod is almost done i will take a look at the hardware specs. Contact some sponsors etc.
Anyway, i might could use your advice:
Following some calculation, a creative mind and drawings his legs should be a good length. But the alien is now 75cm long. And i was planning to build the case that long... So shall i cut off 5cm of his legs or make the case 80cm long? I think long legs are looking good, because of his small body, long arms and his chest and shoulders will have some skin that will be pointing outwards.
That does might need a picture to describe:
Phear my paint skills. Here you see his shoulders and chest pointing outwards, they will also have a little different color from the rest with some engraving.
That is looking awesome! I wouldn't shorten the legs any more, I think aliens looks better with long skinny legs vs short stubby ones. Another option is bending the legs at the knee.
haha...can we call him stubby? He's like an alien hobbit.
I think this would be a good idea, if not a must have. Or you could sever the legs at the 'knee' and make it look like something has hacked his legs away.Quote:
Another option is bending the legs at the knee.
Or...if it doesn't ruin your plan...sever the legs and put him in a wheel chair... :)
These are just ideas i'm throwing out there. The legs look a little short to me, but the rest looks utterly fantastic. Looking forward to seeing him up and about!
-Dave
You could probably come up with any number of more natural positions for the legs and I think it would add tremendously to the overall look. I know he's in the hospital, but he looks a little too rigormortis. He needs some contrapposto detail to enhance the realism.
Lol...this guy's a med student, so he knows his stuff. I'm sure he can help you come up with a vibrant pose for the model.Quote:

Ok, i don't get all the technical english words hehe, but i think what you guys mean. Thanks, it's good to have some feedback :)
The plan was to give 1 leg a large gap in it with a lot of blood an a direct view to his bones. But hacking it off would be funny too :D That means even more blood, bones and wires coming out of his leg hehe.
Positioning the hacked off leg is lot easier: 1 leg cutted of around his knee, lying straight, with some 'rag' (babelfish word) around it. On the picture his left leg is a bit bended around his knee, in such a way his feet is pointing outwards.
Note that 1 arm is in normal position with his hand on his body, like you might do the same when laying on your back. The other arm will be in some kind of clamps to act like some kind of medical machine. That's why it's lying straight to his body.
I have an idea...you could give him a single robotic leg with damage, coupled with an organic leg with damage? It would go with the theme. I'm still thinking the legs look too short somehow.
-Dave
Nice, by the way, I completely forgot to ask this. What's the diagnosis, trauma? Rigormortis is when a body has been dead for a short time it gets very stiff and the arms and legs become difficult to bend. This goes away after some time but usually long after the body is out of the hospital. The contrapposto term is used to describe an innovation in sculpture by the Greeks who improved on the Egyptian style (picture the sculptures with perfectly straight arms and legs) by making the figure stand relaxed and uneven to disperse body weight more realisticly. Try lying down in exactly the position the alien is and then find a more comfortble position to see if it would look good on the alien. Sometimes a very subtle composition change like this can add so much to your work it's suprising. Also, will there be a heart monitor? Cause that would be cool as hell!
Me and Crimson Sky had a chat, and we both agree that this is an exemplary worklog: Good write-ups, great responses from the creator, excellent photography, and not to mention a damn good mod to boot.
For these reasons and more, we've moved your worklog into the Featured Section. It's a pleasure watching your work unfold, and in the Featured Gallery, you can both get the attention you deserve, and act as an example to other worklog writers, so they can see what makes a worklog great.
Congrats man, keep up the good work!
-Dave & Paul
congrats on the feature!
Thank you very much! Sure I'll keep up the good work
Heart monitor shouldn't be a problem if i have a way to make a AVI or whatever with a heartbeat display. I can put my GF up too that, she's familair with AVI's, editting and recording etc. I have a psone display laying around for this project. Also some other displays like a large 64x128 touch screen and 4x20LCD's. Later i will try to find out wich i can control by PC or microcontroller. (good for baybus too)
About the diagnose: Something like a UFO crash. So he may have a lot of wounds and blood etc. On his arm there is a open wound, on his stomach too, a little blood on his head and next are his legs.
I think it looks great when there is no feet anymore, only a sheet of wrapped skin and bones (made of steel) and wires pointing outwards. The other feet could be made of metal. In that way it could look like he lost 1 metal feet, or that they're working to give him 2 metal feets after a accident. People could use they're own imagination on that :)
Well, lets try your advice and do some testing about his position. His back has a bit too much clay on it, lets first remove that to get a more flat back and spend some time on the size of his shoulders. If that's done, the arms will have a better position too.
Hi, I only just came across this mod, looks great! If you are having issues fitting him in, I think the gory detached torso method may appeal and would also give you an excuse for more gory chunks
Anyway, good luck with the rest of the project!
