gah what happend to theat 3d model!??!!??!??111
I'm in the process (and if nobody else did I was planning on providing it for public use). Whether or not it's any good will be for you guys to decide, but it won't be done for a day or two.
Edit: Here's how it is after a days work. It's far from finished but you get the general idea. All from scratch... :dead:
I am assuming you are making the sketch-up model to proper dimensions? I have some very determined aspects to my design already but some require exact measurements. Then again I may not use the model as I stink at sketch-up and it runs very slowly and crashes a bit on my current computer.
Does anyone have the exact measurements or close to exact measurements? I'm pretty good with doing it by eye, but its a bit of a pain and it takes a good bit of time to get it just right.
btw, if anyone needs the basic dimensions you can get them off of Newegg.com under detailed specs. Unfortunately its not so detailed as to say window size, front grill measurements, etc etc. You can also get them from the main website HERE.
yeah mal, just do it in feet or 10s of feet then bring it down
Thanks for taking on the task of mapping this sucka out .Maleficus, looking great so far. And thanks for the specs SnowFire. Another thing that could help is if anyone own one of these cases or works in a place where they have access to one, contact .Maleficus with as many measurments as you can get to aid in his design. Great teamwork fellas.
Excellent!
I'm looking forward to this one, and I already have ideas running through the old noggin. Awesome challenge. And, although the Pit Bull idea is out, I've got a few mini-Pinchers running around that might make this the most vandal resistant case EVAR!!
Or not. They go kookoo for Beggin' Strips, so who knows how vandal proof they will be, huh? :D
On to SketchUp!
BTW; Only use the email addy for submissions. If you need a question answered and do not want to post it here to give away your idea, just PM me and I will get back to you asap.
Thanks! Good luck too!
My vandal proof idea was to put a perch on top of the case and let my bird guard it. Humans are no match for his rock concert decibel scream and finger removing ability... (just ask my friend how his lip got pierced!)
I'm not sure if I'm going to enter this challenge yet but I thought I might be able to help out a little. I did some work in SketchUp and made the X-PLEASURE case. I didn't have much to work with besides the measurements on the Apevia specs page so I had to guess on most of it. I haven't added the trays for the drives yet but if you guys want to use it as is just let me know who to send it to.
Wow man! Thats really good!
I've spent around two days on mine so far... and its no where near as good as that. lol
+rep!
wow i wish i was not building a new computer right now i would love to do this i gotta wait tilll the next one
Maybe we should have to create our own Sketchup's or drawings? Isn't that part of the competition?
Just a thought I had. If not, then I'd love to use that sketchup, but only because its alot better than mine. lol
If you want to share a resource, such as a sketchup drawing, then we'd appreciate it. Apevia haven't been fast at getting us the technical drawings, so we've just decided to start the competition without any.
We won't penalise people who use a shared resource or give bonuses for the original authors though, so be warned! :)
(Although I have +Repped Mal & SpaceHonkey)

SH, I copied your drawings, thanks, +rep
^What Dave Said^. I'll try again with Apevia.
We had a choice of waiting until we heard back from them to start this Challenge, or just throw down and do it. We figured that we had waited long enough and just wanted to get this Challenge going. Yes, by all means share the sketchup models.
19 days left. Hope you guys are working hard! Don't know if Apevia are going to get those files to us anytime soon so make sure you're not depending on them!
Heard some really good ideas kicking about, and I can't wait to see what you come up with!
-Dave
hey guys i just uploaded the case that he made to the 3d warehouse of google, just type in TBCS modder challenge, also it's blue, close to the color its supposed to be, and the fans are blue, or the blades are, didnt think outside needed to be
Thanks MaxOC, that's good help. +Rep dude.
-Dave
Damn, I'm not sure I will be able to finish this. I have an idea but I am too busy right now to make drawings and a presentation.
You should submit whatever you can, even if you don't have time to make it look perfect the idea may be great. Throw it in the ring man!
Don't know if this will help or not, but I found this on Google's site...
its a X-Pleasure case from apevia and I don't know how accurate it is...
http://tinyurl.com/35lyxu
best of luck...
yep dog, that would be the one i uploaded, its pretty close to real, a few flaws but w e
better hurry up all, not long left!!!!
Hey all! Just a heads up that this challenge is coming to a close in a little over a week!
Just a reminder; While it would be nice for everyone to submit their entries as a fully detailed Sketch Up model, it is NOT necessary. An email of a scan of hand drawn details will work just fine. I am not a Sketch Up expert and do not expect any (or most) of you to be either. This Challenge is about ideas, not Sketch Up ability.
We have very few entries at this point. Jot some ideas on paper and SUBMIT!
Show us what kind of gray matter you have sloshing around that cranium of yours!
You wern't kidding when you said we would have a fun time with this one...
All my ideas had to get thrown out when you made it based around that particular case. Therefore, I won't be entering this one. Basically my ideas required a custom case. OH WELL! Maybe the next one will better suit me.
Thanks though.
Oh man, I need to get on this! I might or might not make the deadline, but I'll try to squeeze in some time to finish it all up before this ends. ^_^
But for now, I'm off to see the Eye Doctor to get me some new glasses! yay! lol I'll be able to see again!
I hope there's lot of submissions. I like to see what people come up with, especially when it's something you wouldn't of thought of.
I've been too busy/stressed out/lazy/tired/whatever to think up a good submission, check back in a few months, lol.
OK, I would like to announce that this challenge has been extended for 2 weeks!
That means you have extra time to draw up those idea's and get them to us.
Again, The submissions do NOT have to be cad drawings or sketchup models. Hand draw on graph paper is quite ok. You could even send in your entry in full text if the description is good.
Let's go Modder's, get your idea's going!
So now the Challenge Deadline is; June 15 2007...
I am doing this mainly because some people are going through finals and really wanted to enter but do not have the time. There are also a few people who missed the beginning of this competition and this gives them some extra time.
Hmm... ends on my mom's birthday, maybe I should try to win her that computer case, not that she'd do anything with it...
Go for it! No idea is too small, show us what you can do!
