i didnt realize how huge this thing is...absolutely amazing!
What about the pannel?
I not sure about the position. I am thinking on changing it to the back of the head.
Working on the head antenna.
It would be basically a couple of PVC pipes
in place
Testing them in place
A hole drilled where the antenna in going to be
Tha lower antenna mounted
Completed antenna
I have been connecting the motors to do some RC testing.
I am using Anderson Power pole connector, high current.
I also have made a support for the batteries from MDF wood.
Here is the tachi waiting to live. I could not test it today because I have no batteries for the receiver. :wallbash:
If all goes well. I would test it tomorrow and record a video to show you.
I have also to do some cleanning before painting. To give you an idea I have another two piles like this
Mate, you got me thinking how scary it is a modder can get wiht that much electronics knowledge in his head lol. Awesome molding. Btw, I've never tried out bondo and fiberglass so which one is harder to sand actually?
this mod is coming out SO awsome! im excited to see how it turns out:D
+rep
Its alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Freakin awesome!!!!........ would be nice if can make those legs move and the whole thing scatter around the room :D
What's scrapping on the ground?
Oh God its after me!!!! *runs away*
Dood this is bloody fantastic. Excellent work.
Creen, the noise is caused by the wheels, scratching the fllor, as they are in a fixed postion. thats the reason because I decided to changed them.
Continuing with the worklog:
A slot for the motor batteries main swich.
A fiberglass lip for support the access gate for the backpack. I just use tape to build it, and lay the fiberglass inside. I pulled out the tape when en the fiberglass cured.
Modification on the lower head. Easier to mount the chassis, and I thinks it looks better. Some extra support would be necesary for the chassis in that part.
Joining the nails for the arms. They are made of copper tubes, sanded for better painting, and joinend with resin and bondo.
All the parts waiting to be painted.
I hung all the parts for better painting. I looks like a modernist artistic performance or something...
The parts primmed. Two componet high build primmer.
More to come.
I am constantly amazed at the talent that modding attracts. dimtec you have serious skills with mold making and fiberglass. Thanks for posting the updates. +Rep!
This just keeps getting better and better. Keep up the fantastic work, I can't wait to see how this turns out. +rep
The last photo is in the Campus Party, the biggest lan party here in Spaain. Around 6000 people, 1 week. I have made like 800 km with my Tachi in my car to enter the moddind contest. The other robot is a military one, the kind used to deactivate bombs.
There are some mods here to show. I would post some photos.
Continuing with the worklog.
Masking the parts. There are areas in white and silver.
Firs coat of blue. I have to say it looks better in the photos than in reallity. I was in a hurry to finish for the campus. I am thinking of repainting some areas...
This is the support solution for the lower head
Front wheels Version 2. I am thinking right now in version 4...
Complete assembly.
Front wheels, version 3.
Main switch, reset switch and motor controller switch.
Activity Leds.
And this is Tachi in the Campus party. I still have more photos to post.
That is a nice colour. Can't wait for more pics.
how about some video of it moving around too?
mate, may i know what's the name of that color? instead of "blue" lol
Acey, I cannot tell you the name. I just went to the Paint Shop, look at the catalogue (they have like hundreds of colours) and select the one I like it most. It is car paint.
Well, I am nominated as finalist for the modding contest. The final is tomorrow. I dont know the prices, some hardware I supposed.
Here are some photos of other moddification of last minute:
A detail of the front wheel, V3. I am not happy with it but that what I have for the moment, and they are working good.
Cover for the wiring to the motors. I would prefer them in silver.
Here are some photos of the Tachi at the Campus:
Here is a video in action. The very ugly guy without hair at his head and too much hair at his leg is me...

Also some photos of the competitors:
A mod from Chuskoi, he has won several times the contest. He is the best working with acrylic. The level of finishing is superb.
A piramid
A computer-skate
The skate resist the weight of a person. The owner passed aroud on it.
The PEK clan mods (creators of the Tetris Mod) based in the Four Elements:
Earth
Fire
Air
Water
You dont know what useful is the Tachi for the girls... "OOOhh is so cute!! it is yours??"
Sorry for the blur, I had other 12 guys behind me fighting for the camera....
Great pics mate. Some of those other mods are awesome.
indeed... i am awed at the work there. completely blows away any idea that i have had. tho, i particularly love the skateboard. and the fact that it actually skates is just brilliant.
way to go on being a finalist. good luck.
thats cool nice work mate
I have returned from the Campus Party, and have taken a week without using a computer.
I finished 2 in two categories. originality (won the computer skate) and special projects (won the 4 computers of 4th elements)
Here are some videos and phoits of my Tachi at the campus, even in a national newspaper and in the tv.

My plans is to continue with the Tachi:
- Fix some paint fails
- Installa a camera on an eye to control the tachi from other computer
- Replace front wheels
- Add more details
- Install some computer controlled arms
But I am going to take it more slowly than before, so dont expect to have this worklog so updated as the latest time.
Also I have some plans for my next mod, I am finishing the 3D and I would post the begging of the worklog soon!
Great news mate. Can't wait for the new updates.
Congrats on second place but I think you should of had 1st place over the skate board. Can't tell what the 4 elements looks like but it would have had to have rocked to beat what you've done.
welll.... 2nd..... RAGE MTHR FKR omg bent plexi and a pc into a skate board vs a rc monster thingo hmmmm
RC MONSTER THINGO 4 SURE
while the skate was pretty cool... i mean really... you can skate on your computer... i think you're build should have won. there was so much more work into the Tachi that there is no comparison. srsly.
congrats on 2nd place.
+rep for awesomeness.
Nice work dude. I aspire to reach your potential
I am back in work!
This weekend I went to the paint shop for more paint to do some repairs.
For the people asking about the "blue" colour, it is Monopol 3023 (not related to RAL codes). It is a french company.
I am working in some chassis improvement, and also trying to install the webcam in the tachikoma eye. Tomorrow I would post some photos.
cool cant wait
First, sorry for the bad quality photos, they were taken with my cell. My wife has the camera...
I have simplified the central chasis, so the legs have more natural position. My Tachy had the legs as an"X", and not like the original , like "V" inverted.
In this way I can also lower the chasis. Now I have space in the head to install the main battery, so the weight would be more balanced. I am going to replace the second battery for a smaller one, like 7 amps/h only to power the motor controller.
Of course know I have to fill all the old holes for the chasis tubes. I would do tomorrow with fiberglass.
Also I have to shorten a little the front legs.
This is how it would look...
It really is stunning. A great inspiration. +rep
I have been playing with a new controller, a Nintendo Wiimote. There is a couple of videos with a test I did. It is dificult to record the video and use the Wiimote at the same tiem. I would record a better video this weekend with my wife.
Here are the videos...
I have been building a suport for the battery in the head, with fiberglass and alumunium for reinforcement.
I have filled also the old holes for the legs.
I am also adding some more detailing, like the ammunition compartment in the right arm. I am using a PVC pipe.
To lower the weight, the battery for the motor controller it is going to be replaced by a smaller one.
New position of the legs
More tomorrow
I absolutely love this mod. Really good to see it constantly evolving. Love the idea of using a WII remote.
kool
good work
