Project: Heavy Water

The base for the first tower has just been completed. Next up I will take the two octagons and join them on top of each other with spacers which will create the air intake at the base of the tower. Next up is mounting the 16 poles to create the supports for the tower skin. After that I will pick up the internal components of each tower and create the first working tower. Then start on the second.

I know this is probably the slowest build ever, but it runs on an extremely small budget (read pocket change). But the pile of parts and pieces has grown to where I can actually get quite a bit of work done before I need funds again.

Na mate it's not the slowest build ever lol. Mine has been going for over 12 months now lol.

you should use smoke machines in this two towers, and maybe green paint around the edge of the towers, so that it look's like some nuclear stuff was spilled out!

Here is a picture of the base. viewed from above.

They are Poplar sections cut to create an octagon. The two will then be joined with cross bracing.

A smoke machine has definately been an idea with these. I haven't yet decied on it yet. The look I am going for is a clean, professional style, so it looks like an operating facility. I've got room to build in a smoke machine but they will have 150mm fans near the top of each stack and I am not sure how they will disrupt smoke, I am afraid they will blow it out with such force that the smoke effect is lost. It will probably be a last minute trial type of thing after everything else is done but definately a thought.

Just wanted to let you know that work is still progressing on this, and better than my webserver which got dismantled, hence the vanishing pictures.

Webserver woes
The webserver got dismantled, then I changed ISP's and the new one is not as friendly to setup the router. But that should return before too long.

Progress
The project got partially abandoned for a few months because my wife is expecting so that has shifted priorities. However it now has a bit of new motivation in that the wife is supporting the project to help get it out of the room that is to be the nursery.

I have begun stripping the paint off of the exterior panels which is some form of baked on powder coat, but in nasty beige. I have machined off about one panel's worth. The next few cuts are going to put my little dremel through the paces. I have to cut 2 circles through a total of 6 layers of steel. Then 2 straight cuts and some minor triming and the major cutting work will be done. I'll get some picture up again soon.

I was wondering where you went lol. Good news about your wife expecting mate.

Good to hear your still working on this. Can't wait to see the pictures of what you've gotten done.
