Re: Integration Project: Stage 3
I was thinking some sort of...like a thick, industrial, plastic tubing? like the stuff you see on the walls in Sci-fi movies. It would have to be pretty wide for me to get everythng up and down the tube. Or maybe some flat wire runners running up the wall?
Anyway, sorry i havn't updated this in a while. I have updates, but as my camera's at my friends house, i havn't been able to take a lot of pics. I've also been busy setting up competitions and stuff for the site-but maybe some time next week you can expect to see an update.
I want something to cover up the wires at any rate-although i'm not sure about the ones on the desktop and behind it.

Actually, i thought i would too, but it doesn't. I thought it would roast me alive, but it doesn't do that either. The only problem is that the light on the right hand side keeps falling out, or i knock it out when swithing between keyboard and mouse.
i had this idea from the moment i've seen the words "lamp" and heat.. but i was thinking that if it doesn't bother you... but still: why don't u wire some leds/ccfl to illuminate things there? ..more evenly :)?
and about the wires... from a perpetual modding point-of-view: u could use something removable, as not to have head-aches when changing stuff :) and make a feature out of it ("like the stuff you see on the walls in Sci-fi movies")
nice going with everything... i really like how this is looking:
Re: Integration Project: Stage 3
You wouldn't believe the state of the wiring situation right now. I've installed a KVM switch and i've actually drilled holes in that wall to get stuff through to other parts of the house...it looks like a cheap version of Snakes on a Plane back there.
What you just said sparked a wee idea! I'm suddenly put in mind of something like...this?(That's the first and last time i'm stealing someone else's bandwith...have mercy, it's late!)
I have that PSU in Black, and as I want to sit Stage 1 on the desk...it might work out pretty well. First, i'll need to find out exactly how much wiring there's going to be.
Any ideas about how to pull this off are welcome. The cables are mostly CAT5 network cables, with a few power cables (which will be easy to cut and paste into whatever I want, because there's only 3 cables inside at most in the UK) and one coaxial cable which provides my internet connection. Still don't know about the ones at the back of the desk and...(shudder) underneath it.
All ideas are welcome, would be great to know where i'm going with these cables.

I didn't know there was a not cheap version.
I'm afraid I'm not queit sure what your doing with the cables. Are you just trying to figure out how to hide them, or are you wiring your house or what?
Re: Integration Project: Stage 3
There's too many cables to hide, so i'm trying to make the cables look cool somehow. I've got a huge bunch of cables running up the wall, a hellovalot of cables running under the desk, a snake's nest behind the computers, and a mop on the desktop. Not to mention the stuff going through the walls.
Yes, I am trying to wire the house, in a way that lets me master everything from my nice black (imitation) leather chair.
Got my camera back today, so i'll try and update tonight.

Re: Integration Project: Stage 3
ok.. house modding :) "house cable management.. use only the cables you need" ;)
still, if u wanna make (correct me if i'm wrong) a box with plugs to tidy everything.. u'll have like one of those old phone thingies with lots of plugs :) which actually doesn't sound so bad.. hmm...
Re: Integration Project: Stage 3
Hmm...not too bad an idea? How to go about making one of those puppies is the big question now... ;)

A good handheld is a Sharp Zaurus SL-c1000 or 3XXX, and it's packaged with linux (well it's most likely a mini laptop). But it's expensive. You can get some of the cheaper 7XX or 8XX series.

Althought the cheapest way is to get one of second hand from Japan :) That's how i got mine. Japanese change devices quickly so their second hand is almost new.
VNCreal or thigtVNC should do the work without problems. Also Net OP or Dameware software could do the job. The problem with KVM is to get one (and its wires) that support well your screen resolution and refresh for gaming purpouses, for example.
About wires everywhere.... If you go for an industrial finish, yep Ikea again, they has some tubing sets for this matters. With everything to keep clean of wires your home.
Re: Integration Project: Stage 3
Thanks for the Input Kumo. I've allready got the KMV switch installed, and as for the wires...i have no ideas where i'm going with that. I've leaving Stage 3 at the moment because i'm going to get working on Stage 2 now.
Thanks for the input on the PocketPC, but I have no idea what i'd use it for, so it's not likely to get used. I'm also poor at the moment, just like everyone else on the boards, because i've left my job due to my health.
Although i've just finished a mod last week, I'm not letting up easy. I'm allready trying to get some ideas together for The Fallout Box.
What can i say? Watch out for me starting the project 2 worklog sometime soon. It should be ace.
