Re: Somewhere to grind.....
everything is going good i got all the panels back and put back on. Everythign is up and going. All I got left is detail work and then I got a few other ones I am working on. Here soon when the man cave is done i will have to take a trip out there and bring the beer to officially dub it mancave. But honestly this is awesome and much better than the mancaves of old. This is more like mancave 2.0

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
a small update hope to do more tommorrow if nothing happens mother nature
has been causing problems as of late
Thanks to my wife for an christmas present lol she got tired of seeing me try to carry all that stuff in my hands and leaving a trail behind me .
+ rep to the first one to guess what the order of the day was .
I was getting water seeping from under the 2x4 at least that is what i think was happening so i went heavy on caulk
then i put this waterproof tape over the caulk after i had time to set some .
i put this angle flasing on top of the waterproof membrane and caulked between it and the membrane
the tool of choice or Convenience
Where i am now
used the membrane over the decking joints to help seal them
vapor barrier to gon on before siding
thats all for today thats a start

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
That should take care of your seepage!
As some wordsmith on here said, "It's not overkill unless something dies from it." (If anyone reading this knows who wrote that originally, please let me know, I need to thank them. :D)

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
yes the joys of living in an area wher mother nature thinks that the humidity must be no lower than 80%. Thank you alabama good call on the moisture barrier and sealing it is really coming along quite nicely.

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
LoL i couldnt have said it better myself after a pretty productive day yesterday i was pretty phsyked to work on somewhere to grind .
Also codenmaed : Man cave 2.0 I even went at about 7:30 pm to lowes of course in the rain to get supplies to work on it today .
I was planning on getting up real early and getting started and a few thing happened.
1. My wife woke me up at like 5:30 am when she was getting ready to leave for work and could bareley talk and said she couldnt breath ,her chest was hurting ,and her arm was hurting and she was wezzing awful .
Seeing as how i lost my dad 10yrs ago to an unexpected heartattck i freaked
Needless to say we made it to the hospital very quickly on the way for a min
she wasnt moving or talking ,and wouldnt respond to me .
That was probably one of the worst few min of my life in a while .
Well thankfully and hopefully when we got to the hospital
they did a ekg ,a chest xray , the normal stuff well thank goodness the doctor said it was Asmatic bronchitis dont get me wronf thats better tha na heart problem to me .
They gave her a breathing treatment and she was doing much better very soon .The doctor gave her like 3 meds and she seems to be feeling better .
I am very thankful and feel were very bleesed even with my work situation
right now ,I know a lot of us will or are felling the pinch thats what i love about this community i love the modding worklogs ,that everyone seems to enjoy my attempt at a worklog .
I can come on here and thing off my chest lol on a lighter note .
After we ate breakfast on the way home .
My wife suggested i work on the shed she too kthe cough medicine the doc gave her and was sawing logs like 5mins later lol .
2 . i covered the stuff up wwith plastic when i ogt home last night to my suprise it was dry this morning . Well of course as Bert put it so well mother nature did not play nice today the thing i planned to do were for outside .
It was suppose to be dry today and cold well it was raining and cold .
I couldnt work in the rain on that stuff plus hanling 4x8 anything in high winds is always good times lol. So i moved everything in that would have got wet .
3 well that left me like no room inside to work on anything i had a little insulation from a project were doing in the house left so iwas going to put that on the wall where the doors are of course i came up short .
I didnt want to open another pack and come up short in the house .
4. So i had a can of foam insulaton in the house i said i wll just use that do some touchups.
Wait till next weekend to do what i was going to do today wont take long
just needs to be dry well i put the straw thing on the insulation and pressed it nothing happned pressed again it snapped off at the can lol i thought ok
so i tried holding it on to use what i coulf wish you could have all seen that lol mess.
5. i said well with the wife sick im just gonna call it a day mother nature was on the scene anyway will do it next week if nothing happens right im sure we have all been there just step back and reavluate the situation .
6. So being what a good husband i think i am since my wife was sick she even made lunch .
I did the laundary ,and folded finsihed the dishes ,swept ,vacumed ,but up the clothes after folding them just did the house work for today the kicker is lol right about when it was to late for me to start my outside work lol the sun comes out and stay out the rest of the day lol .
Well after the way my day started i still feel blessed ...........Hope to have a real update soon thanks for letteing me tell about my day just neeeded to get that out lol . hopefully if budget and mother nature permits i will have an update pretty soon if noting happens .That was just a peek at the man behind the mod so to speak . lol reading me bable what a joy .

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
You could use that mini nuclear reactor to power it.
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
or make an arc reactor like in the iron man movie :D that woudl be so amazing
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
From seeing some of the Rigs posted here... You just need one of those Quad GPU Air cooled rigs in there....It should keep that place nice and toasty even in the winter :)
(I'm wishing I had a container about now!!!) Nice work!
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
just found this today. amazing work man.
glad your wife is alright. had the same situation happen with my dad a few months ago.
wish i had a mancave to call my own :(

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
Yeah, he's ok. Pulled his shoulder at work. When we were driving across S.D. he started having should/chest pains. Went to the emergency room in Sioux Falls and they were like, omg he's having a heart attack. Well, 2 days later we got to leave with, oh yeah, its his shoulder.
Man, what I would give to have a container like that. Looks good man.
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
are you going to install surround sound speakers in tehre and maybe put an old laptop or system to use the net and get music :D
lookin good keep up the good work
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
That would be sweet! I'd love to convert my shed into the Man Cave.. I already have power out there, and a desk. :) I guess I could put up all the insulation I have sitting in the corner in there, and get it sealed up nice.. :D
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
I have a really important question .. when you are done will it be mobile.. even if that means slurped back up onto a truck.. will it still have all the structure needed to do that..( moblie man caves are even cooler then normal ones :D)
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
@ ShockTheBox you know that reminds me i have my Home stereo that never gets used at home because my wife gets up really early i had thought of building a wood with a plexiglass front and a 120mm fan on front and back with filter material thanks for reminding Me +rep
Also when i run the electrical underground i would like to run a cat5 or 6 cable if it put them in there on seperate pvc pipes there shoiuldnt be any interferance right ?
Luke122 i say go for it it is nice to have a place to get away from it all and is lot better when it is warm hope you get the Man cave fixed up man .
ShockTheBox I dont know i have done a lot to the structure to brace it .
Which the tow truck driver did a lot to unbrace it .
I think if it was a good driver it would be ok but i wouldnt promise that lol .
It probably has seen it last ride lol
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
aww thats to bad .. how cool would it be to take your workshop and computers with you at all times .. :P laptops dont count .. they dont have the same power and glory a desktop computer does .. but I am really loving this mod.. keep it up and finish the thing :P i want to see some action shots of you working in the man cave.. so I can feel manly lol

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
Here is what i have been working on this week while i was off was hoping to get to work a lot but with the holiday and Black Friday sales ,helping the father-in-law some and knocking off early today to watch my Alabama Crimson Tide dismantle Auburn 36 to 0 which i really really enjoyed Roll Tide .
I got somethings acomplished one little bit of advice i can give if anyone is considering doing a mod like this work when you can no matter how little you get done keep plugging away i get discourged sometimes but i just keep going the best i can and all the support i receive here and at other forums helps a lot thanks all . Now to the update
These are the nails i used to put the sheet insulation on the outside wish i had taken a picture of the insulation its just 4x8 sheet insulation .
installed
The siding as i was getting ready to cut it .
closeup it is called rough barnwood i love this rustic looking stuff
the first peice installed
After it was installed
lol on a liter note that innocent looking four foot ladder well i had mine sideways on my steps putting my sideing on well speed ,quickness, and grace i am not known to have lol .
Well i fell of the top of that ladder the other day i know thats not very high but the angle and what i could have fell on could have been bad well all i can say is im blessed somehow i landed on my feet but one leg was between the lege of the ladder i didnt even get scratched .
sideing painted finally i got to cover up the paint on the doors that the weather messed up .
The whole front painted.
some trim piecies i added just to help a little
this is what i had to contend with just to get to working on the inside .
this angle stock was donated by a friend to i used it for backstops at the top of the doors he even drilled it and countersunk it with his drill press thansk again man .
of course mother nature is at it again .
how thick it is
installed also i put some 2x2 behind the door for stops on the back and to help seal from wind and rain but forgot to take a picture.
I wasnt going to put anything on celling to cover the insulation but , i thought i want to make it as nice as possible there will be modding and some hobby woodwork ,planning sessions ,maybe gaming sessions and watchingh the ocasssional ball game .
So i went browsing some salvage supply stores i found some paneling i liked it looks similar to diamond plate or i think that what they were going for lol.
here i added the 1x2s so i could put screws in the celing wihout putting holes in the roof .
Here i broke out the mancave namesake to grind off the rivets of the old track the door ran on .
the track i was talking about .
after i grinded the heads off i just had to take a drill bit to it just a little the tracks popped right off .
track are gone .
first one installed i only have one left and i wll be done will post upthe the picture of that later if nothing happens.
also i filled the voids with some scrap insulation we had leftover from some work one the house every little bit helps cant afford to waste anything thats all for now hope to have another update with celing finsihed if nothing happens hope you all enjoyed it . Eveyones support is greatley appreciated .

Re: Somewhere to grind.....

-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....

good work .., i love the pics keep em comming
-
Re: Somewhere to grind.....
This is an up close shot of the pattern on the celing .
This is the finished the finished celing . it kind of looks like a carbon fiber pattern in that light to me.
This is the trim i decieded on i think it will look pretty nice .
I put up some more insulation but, not ezactly exciting hope you enjoy it
Hey Shock the box here is another container i looked at i tohught was manley

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
I love the progress your making and I'm glad your wife is ok. I made a 2min photo in CS3 hope you like it. Its based off running your man cave with a nuclear reactor.
Check out the news article here. Its a good read and is very interesting. Good luck and god speed.

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
ok all finally an update
as you can se here there was nothing to attach the walls two for about 2 feet so i added a 2x4 i planed down to give me something to screw it too.
I used this to attach it to the building so i could put bolts through on the other side ant i wouldnt keep falling down and be cock eyed it worked amazingly i dont know how well it would hold under stress but it held up great . for my needs .
im kind of jumping all over the place i got all of it insulated and i cut my time down by over half i cut a peice of paneling down to the size i needed in the walls .
A peice of 1\4 to cut the recessed parts in between i finished in about an hour that was taking forever only wish i had thought of this long ago.
This is how im going to do the braces for the back wall.
I was going to dot he sides the same way but they neeeded extra bracing i thoguht running the wood this way would help more plus it is a lot longer than any 1x4 s i have .
This was a christmas present form my ife that helped me a lot
I used this tool to drive the screws in throught he oak and into the metal i used drywall screws made to go into metal studs that selfdrill
What keeps me going and my sugar from bottoming out i tend to work non stop when im working on something and for get to eat .
i took some scrap paneling fom the celing and finished the front wall it will have pegboard over it anyway
so it didnt have to be perfect .
Since those boards are 10 to 12 feet oak they eould be pretty hard to hold up and put a screw in at the same time so i would put a couple in spaced out close to where i needed them then rest the boards on the
this is what i ended up with .
then i did some work outside on a couple of spots i was tempted to try to get the old taillights from the bed working but were in bad shape i didnt really have the money for new ones .
first i cut some patches from crap sheetmetal .
Then i used some more of the griplock stuff.
then i went with the window flashing .
after some of the roof patch tar like stuff i but the reinforcement mesh and more tar
i did that on all the sides that needed it .
all comments welcome .hoprfully i am making ground if noting happens iwill start onthe walls and floor soon.

Re: Somewhere to grind.....

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
Just stumbled on this today, simply awesome. Wish I had somewhere to put a container to do this in. I live in a trailer court tho so..... no room and no way the landlord would allow it. Great ideas tho. +rep for recycling, reusing and making do with what ya got ;). I'm still so jealous.

Re: Somewhere to grind.....
wow this thread rocks!! makes me want to start building a simple shed that I could use. but I really REALLY want to build an actual shop, with a pit for some mechanikin. that would be sweet. alas, money restraints. I dig the old box truck idea, would be sweet to make a mobile modshop/mancave! I used to deliver furniture and when we would go on 4+ hour road trips I always wanted to bring a generator or ac converter and set up a tv / fridge in the back of our del. truck! + rep for sure!
