going to suck ???
those brackets will hold the sidepanels on the bottom. need some cutting first.
step one of wirering the sidepanels up .. some copper sheets to connect panels and electronics-tray
gold leaf to protect the copper form corroding
now we can start with the leds
44 per side, deep red and cold white (plcc2).
sometimes soldering got a bit tricky...
step one was to connect everything to ground.
first, wanted to put the leds in groups of 4, but that wasnt that beautyful on the edge. so i decided to split them up. some things became quite tight ...
thats just a third of alle cables that need to get through this.
more on that in the next days
today we head on to the light inside the case.
to light the inside up iīll gonna use this LED. this is a 1w lumi-led emitter in daylight white and itīs unbelievable bright. i have to use a led because thereīs not enough space for a cathode.
the coppersheet is for cooling the led. uncooled it would melt within seconds.
test set-up. the strange red stuff is old thermalglue. looks ugly . smells ugly, no further details ...
the first heatsink was a bit too small (60-70°C), so i made a bigger one and 2 small ones for the resistor. that thing getīs pretty hot , too (90°+).
not that beautyfull, but works fine
another testsetup.
one led to light up...
Great Job Cutting that out! I'm about to start some cutting of my own.
You use a Dremel or a Jig Saw?
If that's the case don't bother posting. give constructive and honest feedback, or there's really not much point in posting anything.Quote:
in my mind i did. if i posted what i actually thought i would have lost like 15 rep points like i did with the v for vendetta case
-Dave
@ eck .. what kind of cut are you referring to ?
ummm letīs start with a little teasin
the bolts for the sidepanel are sanded and polished.
the case itself is now nearly finished, but the remote controll is not more then a concept.
diameter 48mm , strength 10mm , aluminium. one of the few parts i didnt made myself.
2 potentiometers are attached to the wheel. one for the fans on the top, the other one helps to vizualize the speed of the fans. more on that later.
to visualize i need a bargraph or something similar. buying one was an option but no solution.
i decided to build my own from small plexisheets and some unused smd leds.
dont forget aluminium foil.
see ya soon on part 2
today we start with some bondo.
while the bondo was drying i made the first modul. this one will carry 4 switches and a Ir diode.
and the scond modul. pwr switch and a bargraph on this side.
this button fits under the yellow striped cap. itīs made of a 5mm plexiglassheet
iīve had some time to paint the first pieces, too.
modules done. the next step is to build the housing for them ( they are already standing on the parts of teh future case) and testing the bargraph.
This is easily one of my favorite mods and is really coming together. great work man
hi folks. i am done. everything is finished. i can get a life now.
this will be one of last posts with pics iīll add here. the pictures arenīt commented, i think they speak for themselves. so have fun, see you soon
pictures of the exterior will follow in the next days. weather suxx and i want to do some photoshooting in the garden.
Great Job dude! However I think more pictures would be warranted. This was such a complex project that I'm not sure these last shots tell the whole story. You should try to get a couple more in better light of the whole finished project. I'll move a copy of this to our completed mod gallery now but if you decide to add more pics let me know and I'll tack them on at the end. Thanks for sharing!
oh my god thats nice. i love this mod cant wait to see the finished product
Wow, that's classy, has someone done a CF tutorial here yet?
Lookin forward to the pics, antsy to see everything in daylight.
Bout time you finished.... LOL, Just givin ya ****!. That looks sweet man! I can't wait to see the exterior shots!
Awsm.
That is one awsome case! Looks like all that work did pay off. Congrats man good job!
need to sleeve some cables, the look of the original ones really sucked!
both cables for the RC done. changed the caps on the sub-d to metalized ones. looks much better.
power and p-ata cables remain unsleeved. they would get much too stiff to hide the rest of it in the "basement". some black pata cables would be cool but i dont know where to buy some in germany.
hopefully i can buy some new hardware in q4 of 07 and the pata stuff is kicked out . psu would go the same way to get some space for one with cable management.
iīve plans for the grafic card 2, but i dont invest time and money in something thatīs probably changed in a few month.
time to power things up.
the natural habitat of my box.
some designsketches from the early stages....
thx to www.gorde.de for the wallpapers
time for big updates is over now. maybe there are some smaller ones in the future, but all serious work has been done. thx for reading , see ya soon.
I added this to your thread in the gallery, nice pics!
I copied your post to the gallery version.
thx . now it should be done ^^
how did you cover that G5 with carbon have you got a tutorial
i think i will try it with mine :D
mhh thatīs quite simple. add a layer of carbon and some resin for finish, sand , polish, done.
or you could have just purchased one of these, I did.
This is one very nice looking case. Awesome job!
carbonfever goes print.
a french hardwaremagazine has made an article about my box

Hey, congrats dude!
Congrats! You deserved it!
thx for posting guys
again, a little update. i visited berlin to display my case on the IFA
i did a transportcase for that from plywood. case, keyboard , mouse, remote and all cables can be stored in there.
kinda messy when i arrived.
cfīs place on the exhibition.
...and on the contest. the opponents were pretty strong so there was nothin in for me.
