****.. I wish I would have known about that before.. it takes about 90 minutes to cut that sticker out using an xacto knife. I'll live with the little wrinkles. lol

maybe just a border would frame that emblem nicely?
We think alike Jon. I used some electrical tape around the edges. I didn't like it though. A black fade would look cool. Now I wish I wouldn't have thrown away that junk mouse so I can practice.
Yeah,
Here's where it gets dangerous. I'm always like that. "It needs just one more thing."
I say leave it. Projects always looks dull before the clear. I think once you put clear on it you'll love it.
I got some clear coat earlier today. This stuff is quick! The can says to apply the coats 60 minutes or less apart, otherwise let it cure for 2 days before applying the next coat. So far, I have 3 coats down. FYI, I'm using Speed E-Namel paints. I was thoroughly impressed after just the 1st coat. Depending on how the 3rd coat looks, I might let it go for 2 days and then wet sand and lay down a few more coats. Haven't touched the buttons with clear yet, just the body. Just wait till you guys see....
It's a little cold here today..

sgtm it looks better than last time!!! remember, no furnace! lol
Lucky. You're about 15-20ºF warmer than us here.Quote:

I feel for ya.
Ok guys.. here we go. These are shots after some clear on the body. I'll clear the buttons tonight.
This is how the sticker started out, and the paint I'm using. The rest are just different angles of the mouse body.
Awesome....
Excellent finish!
Looks pretty good! I hope the finish lasts for you.
I have the same mouse, except black and grey and I wouldn't consider painting it because of how much use it gets. I've had mine for less than 6 months now and the side where your thumb sits, as well as the left mouse button, have now been worn smooth and shiny. You can see exactly where my fingers usually sit.
The keyboard that I got with it also has smooth marks. The space bar and the spot below it both are worn smooth and shiny.
Thanks everyone. There's 3 coats of clear on it right now. I'm letting that cure for 72 hours, and then it's going to get another 3 coats.
Jeremy - that's EXACTLY what I'm going to do this time. lol. I'm not taking ANY chances.
Bucko - I'm a little concerned about that too.
I absolutely love that mouse. Im thinking of purchasing my Clan logo and slappin it on my mouse from a local graphics shop.
Looks really good, ace work man. Just the clear really brings out those 3 creases you mentioned earlier.
You shouldnt worry to much about it, most people dont have custom mice anyways, so if you show it off, people wont notice.
Just a small update for today. I got 3 more coats of clear on the mouse body. Pics will be up in a little while.
A little late, but here's some pictures I promised. I also started wet sanding the buttons in prep for clear. ATM, I have 6 coats of clear on the mouse body.
I'm hoping it will stay that way also. I think that with the way I'm letting it cure, everything will be good to go.
Very small update.. The mouse body has been curing after 6 coats of clear for about a week. I removed the masking tape today. I have 3 coats of clear on the buttons right now, and I'm giving it a few days to cure. After that will be reassembly. I came across a few extra bucks, so I'm probably going to buy some blue and black paint and more sand paper this weekend. I would *like* to get the window cut out too, but we'll see if time permits.
Mouse looks great!
About the border...I reckon once it's reassembled it'll all come together. The base and side bits'll give it a border anyway.
Well done for persevering(sp?), if my paint had of gone mental like that I'd have lost my rag and flung the mouse outta the window in frustration!
Well done!
Thanks Drew..
I took the mouse in to "work" tonight. A few people were moderately impressed by it.
Ok.. so I got some paint this weekend. Didn't get a chance to get to my dad's shop to pick up the case though. I'm thinking of adding some White LED's inside the case for accents. Probably on the same side of the case as the window. One in the front, one in the back, and angled so the front one illuminates the drive rack, and the one in the back will light up the mobo. Thoughts on that anyone?
edit: the mouse will be reassembled tonight. Cross your fingers!
Good luck with the reassembly!
White LEDs? I have some white cathodes in my case right now, and I really like them. No color, but makes the paint stand out great. If you want them to be like spot lights, you'll probably want Lazer LEDs (I think that's what they're called). Sounds like a good idea to me! Seems like it will look like a display case inside, showcasing the cool stuff in it. Nice idea, keep it up!
Finally.. the update I've been waiting to post! The mouse mod is finished (I think). I was just thinking about painting the sides of it black.. just the grey pieces. What do you all think?
P.S... no laughing at my photography skills (or lack thereof).
Wait, is it glowing blue!? THAT IS FREAKIN' AWESOME.
I know you can't get the back LED color to change (the plastic filters out all but red) but I really like the combination of the red mouse and back light with the ominous blue light.
+rep.
Ooooo...that came out fantastic! I agree that the sides would look real nice in a flat black.
Thanks Jon!
Update time.
Take a boring Maxtor external HDD and make it fit in.. hrm what should I do.....

The next images are the top of the drive:
nice, ur color fading is looking great!
Thanks J.. I should have some updated pics on the external HDD enclosure today or after work tonight.
ok, so I couldn't wait.. here's progress pics on the HDD enclosure. Yes, instead of buying actuall 1/8" tape, I measured and cut it myself. Probably won't be straight, but I'm thinking about putting a black fade on top of it if it doesn't come out right. 1 more coat and we'll see.
Update time again.. Here's the ext HDD enclosure. No clear on it as of yet. I think I'll only put 2 very light coats on, just for a little protection. I wasn't going for a very smooth finish like the mouse, and what the case will eventually have, but I'll probably go over it with 600 before the clear. Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
crispy colours mate, keep up the good work!
That mouse is pretty sweet lookn man, I have about 1,000 of them, i get em for free from work lol. The HDD also looks decent :)
Not much progress to report over the last couple of days. I've been waiting for the paint on the ext HDD to cure before giving it a light sanding with 600 and then I'll put down a couple light coats of clear. I started working on adding another blue LED to the mouse yesterday.
Nice project looks great. You're on track for this unit. Did you ever or are now serving in the UncleSamsMisguidedChildren (you know sub division of the Navy ... LOL).
I served 10 years in the Navy on submarines. Yep a bubble head.
Are you going to use one of the emblems from the hat on your case?
Really looking forward to your developements.
Just remember fly boys... Confucius say there are more Airplanes in the ocean then Submarines in the sky.
Yes, we are the MENS dept. lol.. I served from Sept 94 until March 2000. Obviously, I loved every minute I served, otherwise, I wouldn't be doing this mod.. it would probably be something else. Back on the first page is a 3d model of what the case will look like when it's complete. Been trying for 2 weeks to get over to my Dad's shop to get the rest of the case and start painting panels and change over some LED's in the front panel. Work schedules have been conflicting though. Maybe this week.
Sure man.. I'll take a new mobo, proc, and an 8800gtx.. lol Seriously, I think I'm ok for now. You're right though, I do need more time, and I need to get away from this job that is sucking up all of my IQ, and wasting my time and skills. Hopefully that will change soon though.
