As soon as I graduate, I'll be blowing XP off of my home system for good. Red Hat, here I come!
Microsoft software has been fine for me. Linux is fairly good, I have used ubuntu 7.10 before, and PCLinuxOS2007. The only experience with macs that I have had is the occasional browse through the local apple store. I would probably have an iPhone 2.0 by now, if it wernt for the contract. If it was pay as you go, I'd be there.
If everything microsoft was rubbish, would people buy it, and then buy the next version? As long as you are using a legal version of their software, you should have no problems.
I was lucky enough to be given a free upgrade to vista from xp by hp. Did a clean install though, as I didnt want all the extra hp software.
p.s. If the piece of hardware says on the box vista compatible, it will work. I meant to put this in my last post, but if I edited it, it wouldent have been read.
Re: Did you hear about how great the new version of Windows, "Mojave" is?
But, if it was a cheap computer, it might not work well.

I wouldn't dare running vista on anything sub 2.0Ghz P4 (w 1.5GiB of ram which I did during Beta 1 and Beta 2). XP does not choke on an 800Mhz P3, it even runs perfectly fine on a 650Mhz Celeron (with 128MiB ram). XP ran perfectly fine on my P3 866Mhz with 256MiB ram and ATI Rage Fury Pro for the three years I used it with XP (I even was able to play games on it).
The fastest thing I've had Vista (Home Basic) on is my laptop (I have a C2D x9000 (2.8Ghz) in a Dell Vostro 1400), and it perfectly suits my needs (though I'm itching to get Gentoo with KDE4 on it but I'll wait for 4.2 to come out). Before I put the x9000 in, the processor was a 1.4Ghz C2D (T5270 but it ran according to CPUz @ 1.6Ghz most of the time), and surprisingly it ran perfectly fine for web browsing, email, and other school related things.

I've never used it but this really smart computer kid down the street said it was crap. Oh, really? You've never used it? THEN STFU!
The people who have a problem with Vista are the people that come in and buy the $299 eMachines. Well no **** it's not going to run well. You have a single core Sempron and 1GB of RAM. With the prices of tech nowadays, almost anyone can afford a decent Vista-capable computer. Anyone who's seen my thread about my mom's Gateway will know that.
Anyways, it's all opinion. I happen to like it, I happen to like XP and I happen to like Linux. I've only just started playing around with Macs so no comment there, but honestly, if you don't like Vista don't use it. An open notice to all the non-techie haters out there: If you complain to me about Vista before actually using it because a 12-year old computer genius said it was crap, I'll shove an Ubuntu CD down your throat and install Linux on you so you actually have some brains.
Re: Did you hear about how great the new version of Windows, "Mojave" is?
I just subscribed to PC world again, after leaving for a year, or two, and they complain about vista way too much. I'm sure that that kind of stuff doesn't help.
Re: Did you hear about how great the new version of Windows, "Mojave" is?
I Beta tested Vista, and got very excited over the features. I uninstalled it however, because the beta was buggy and slow.
I then bought Windows XP Media Center 2005 for my new PC and got the "Vista Upgrade Plan" (which by the way was the worst software distribution system I've ever seen in my whole life).
February (March?) 2007, I got my new Vista Home Premium in the Mail and went to install it. Freezes. At first I was like "Did they fix all of those bugs and stuff from the beta?". So I call up microsoft. After 4 days (About 3 hours a day) talking to MS, they decided to finally call up my mobo manufacturer, ASUS. ASUS recommended a BIOS update. I did that and guess what!? It installed.
I've been using Vista ever since. By now there are some features I love, some I dislike, some I feel need improving and some I literally can't do without. Its been an overall positive experience. I've always had a computer that could run it no problem, and had no problems with game performance.
I recently got myself 4GBs of RAM and upgraded to 64-Bit Ultimate (My friend got it through his work). Even better performance. Sadly because of the 64-bitness of it I've had 4-5 compatibility problems with programs, but nothing earthshattering.
I've noticed (as you guys have already stated) that the people who hate Vista fit under one of these conditions:
1) they have never used it and are basing their opinion on hearsay,
2) they have an old computer and are mad that a next-gen OS can't run on it
3) they are mad they are losing 3-5 fps in a few games
Mind you I still love XP, but I like Vista with all of its extra features more.

Re: Did you hear about how great the new version of Windows, "Mojave" is?
I have 2 machines which I won't upgrade to Vista (my home laptop and "the-bomb", my old gaming desktop) but I use Vista and XP daily. To solve my 64-bit and vista compatibility problems, I have a virtual machine with XP 32-bit. Works for me (mostly).
Re: Did you hear about how great the new version of Windows, "Mojave" is?
You know whats funny? I watched the videos of the experiment and one of the guys goes " You know, i just have this weird feeling that the OS your showing me is Vista"
