There is always an exception to the rule, but for the most part power tools you get what you pay for. Best advice for power tools is buy the best you can afford and don't abuse 'em and even cheaper stuff will last a long time. 'Nuff lecturing from me. I got a $300 Li-Ion 12v HITACHI :D lol, well it's dads haha.
msmrx57 is right though, with tools you get what you pay for but with the right care they will last a life time. My Grandpa died last year and I inherited some of his tools (plane, shifter set etc), this stuff is 40+ years old and works fantastically.

old tools were built to last forever, my grandads tools that are from the late 40's still work to this day!
