that's pretty freaky looking, man. i dig it.
question... how hard is the surface? did you add anything to harden the paper or just paint? are you concerned about damaging it?

Tested it by tugging at the curves and knocking it with knuckles and won't budge at all :D I used gripping glue after the mold is dry to cover the whole panel prior to the sprayjob. Covered in glue till its all shiny meaning excessive glue on top.
Paint comes in clear coat, black-brown, dried, black, dried, brown highlight, dried, clear coat thats about 5 layers of paint but it kinda absorb almost all of the first 3 layers. Damaging it i doubt it cos I don't move it and there's no solid object near the case except the speakers. It may not be as tough as bondo, but its definitely tough all over except the brims.
oh my holy crapping god!! this looks awsome!:D amazing what you can do with paper
+rep
dude, that's quite a great idea to use paper, never seen it used in other mods.... yet =P
can't wait to see that keyboard ;)
Thanks man. Still preparing the material tho. And had been very busy travelling back n forth to catch Chelsea Football Club in training (yesterday) and the match against the national team which I just came back from. Tomorrow I'll need to go lunch with ex colleagues so probably will show more or less of the keyboard by this weekend.
Hey Acey congratz on your MOTM nomination over at Bit-Tech, good luck mate.
Yep mate you did. Congratz.
Thanks. Clearly the underdog out of the 5. I think Deuce is the MoTM for July
I couldn't decide between your mod, TD's or x06jsp's. This time x06jsp's mod got my vote, such an unusual design.
I wish I could have voted for all three of ya :(.
good luck acey its going to be a close one with you me and langer by the looks of things!
Thanks
Darn, been gone for like few days catching up with the football/soccer event n now I cant catch up on those worklogs. =/ SLOW DOWN PEOPLE
So far..
Someone suggested owl claws which i think will do.. will do...
p/s: i voted for Deuce on BTN :D
Looking good mate, now slap some paint on it lol.
cool start, maybee something like a bone tail around the upper part od the keyboard?
can't wait too see it finnished:)
Some minor updates on the keyboard. This has definitely got to be the most fragile and hardest thing to work with for this project. Not really done with them claws yet, just need them to harden first. Need to get another one up.
Some 1/2 mold for the top of the keyboard
I take a look into the small bucket next to it and... GOD.. THE KEYS!!! @_@ Basically gonna cover all the keys as I don't have to look at them eheheh. Estimate completion should be by next Friday plus the paintjob. Just an estimate if nothing came up that requires me to run around town.
Mate your attention to detail is amazing. Fantastic work.
Finished layering the whole thing. 1 key is missing. The "\" key, gonna have to mod the sides of the keyboard by the looks of it. I've never used the Pause/Break key before so I'm gonna take that key.
This is scary
I feel like making sushi or something while working on them
Blurry. The bottom-left corner
Not goin to disclose any pix of the frame right now as its still in progress.
Looking great. I have a feeling that those keys may be uncomfortable to type with lol.
dont know yet, but gonna slime them
Nice, slippery keys lol.
and whenever i post you'll see tonnes of typo xD
lol i just have typos anyway :P
Here we go again...
How it looks like after finalizing every side, about 4 hours ago. I keep the right side kinda plain as I'm a right hander (mouse?). Its not really as fun as the case itself as the thing have like "Handle With Care" stamped all over it. And not a big space for me to explore and turn it into a freak.
After a heavy dose of gripping glue on the keys and the board itself, prep it for paint. Masking tape.
I just did a dual layer black+brown like 2 hours ago. Brown's not so obvious now but its dual-tone just like the case itself. First batch of buttons go first. Then one layer of black for the board. And after that another layer to give it the gloss, and immediately brown highlights for dual tone effect.
Thats it for the whole week + today. Imma highlight it further with brown tomorrow or the next day. And then some slime time (another slow moving process due to the keys =_= ) before 2 final layers of clear spray just like the case.
Now... I have been thinking will I ever finish with the full set. I feel like making a custom mouse pad for it now. Someone please enrol me in Paper-mache Anonymous.
Now don't that look the part. Fantastic work mate.
whew! finally got your header done, I slipped it in your first post.
wow that looks good was talking to you before you posted and didnt imagin it that good nice work
Blessed be mate, I have a new found respect for recycling! Brilliant idea, I love the effect.

Finds the purple to be extremely shiny. Although I thought of darkening the whole keyboard and touch up part of it with darker colors, decided not to. Instead of using brown this time, I tried red oxide and it stood out better as a "sticky mod". Then the more I look at it, the more I got used to it so heck, no redo for my "cute" barney keyboard.
I can probably rest my ciggs on the gaps :p
The home-del section.
What matters the most is.. it still works
From this

Nuh uh, not done yet. Now to move on to the mousepad. Yeah, this post is fully typed with my "new" letterless keyboard. Mwehehehehe.
all i can say is WOW.........
Looks great mate. Do you intend to add letters later?
 thanks mate. sorry if sometimes i cant reply on msn, kinda busy on the blog and layout stuff
Nope. Don't need them at all. And all the buttons are already clear coated. Want it to remain as a chunk of "WTF is that?"-looking thing.
Prepping the material for the mousepad. Bah I hate waiting for the paper to soften up.
Ah I see, you touch type. I can kinda but I still like to have the letters on just in case.
I have no idea why I did this sketch of the mousepad for. I'll call it the M-oozepad for now. I have problems with conveying what is in my head onto paper and don't really wanna do any shadings or detailing for it. :P Cos I know it'll turn out absolutely different when I'm done. Just got too damn bored this noon. Hmm I'll use it as a guide to mold the base
Well, after the mousepad I still got some base for the speakers to mold :)
that will be sweet cant wait
