Greetings all...
Logged on today for the first time in a long time and WoW...a lot of changes have taken place...but anyway I found this "Community PC" thread and I thought it was a great idea. I noticed that the master list of items needed included a case....which I happen to have one or two. So I contacted jdbnsn to let him know that I would be honored to donate a case to such a worthy cause. He thought it a good idea also, but said I should post it here and let everyone vote on which case to use. One of the admins should decide how this vote should take place, but anyway...here's the list.
Centurion II
Centurion IV
Centurion 530
Centurion V
Cavalier I (Black)
Cavalier I (Silver)
Cavalier IV (Black)
These cases are all CoolerMaster cases. Pics can be seen on their website.
All are new or like new.
Please note I am not selling these, since I also understand that the buy, sell & trade threads are no longer being allowed. I will donate one case and pay shipping (US only) as long as I have one that the community chooses in stock. As of today, all listed above are in stock.
Let the voting begin...
Buying and selling are still allowed, it's just a personal agreement and no one on the boards can or will be held responsible for the actions of the members involved. Any problems should be kept between the individuals involved.
I haven't checked on this in a while, wow, lots of progress. Maybe the extra money could either be donated or kept in the coffers for the next project like jdbnsn mentioned.
I would say either the Centurion 5 or the 530.
You guys are going to make one little kid very happy.
All I have to say is don't go with the Cavalier. I have one, and well, it's not really moddable. =/
That being said; The Centurion V looks nice.
One of those Centurions, the IV, I think, Looks really really smooth. That would probably be good too.
I like the Centurion cases. All of them.
I think we need to hear from Crimson since he will be the one working on it. Still no word from MAWF?
No word yet, they are backlogged with offers of help since the holidays I guess--busy time for them
Offer is still good on all the cases I listed with the exception of the Cavalier IV (Black) case...I just sold my last one and don't plan on restocking that particular model.
They must really be backlogged. Still no word Crimson?
Nothing yet. I'll give them one more chance after I call them to accept the offer, otherwise we'll find another org.
Just looked at this thread for the first time. I haven't been around for _SO LONG_ but this looks like it could be cool, i can't really donate bits as im in the UK and shipping is expensive. But lets hope MAWF get in contact soon.
I havent been reading much but sell the computer on ebay or something as a charity which will make more money than just selling it as a custom computer and then donate the money to an organization.
Do we still need a case?
I have 3 cases I am willing to send any one of them...
1 is somewhere between a mid and a full.
1 is a mid.
1 is a mid aptiva with a cool sliding door mechanism.
All are generic beige and none have had any modding done to them. Let me know if you want pics.
P.S. The master component list says we need a dial up modem. Did you mean the card or an actual sit on your desk old fashioned modem? The former I have a few of the latter I have none of...
Yup that's the one it is...
This case is VERY solid and while I don't know if that's good or bad, the door is still pretty cool.
You push that blue button and the door slides down to reveal your drives.
I can imagine a kid thinking that part was pretty cool...
{Start OT}
LOL I've got the option of getting my hands on one of these cases as well for some modding purposes. And surgery doesn't bother me one bit, after all, isn't that the name of the game here?
{End OT}
I think this is a great idea--I'll dig thru this long thread and get up to speed and see if there's anything I can contribute.
I definately would love to contribute my art skills - especially space related. Keep you posted.
I was in the hospital for a few days and my wife decided to "help" me by doing some of my chores.
One of the first chores she did "for me" was to clean the garage, and in the process she threw away all 3 cases (and a lot of other computer stuff I had as well).
Sorry guys, the hunt for the right case continues...
Hey Minty, why don't you go MOD something. ;)
A member has come to me with a request to start this forum up again. Please read his presentation when he posts and pitch in where you can with your ideas, talents and hardware gifts. :)
If you're still looking for a modem, I have two going spare.
(Both PCI, V90)
I'd be happy to send them.
I'd be willing to put money together and donate to a part. I would buy the part that is needed the most, and send it to who ever is modding this. I do want one thing.. I want to be sure that this mod gets done and sends to charity.. I don't want to donate money towards this, and then the person in charge never finish it.
Who is going to mod the case and such?
This is my all time favorite computer case... EVER.
I have one, it will be one of my future case mods (Whoops that was supposed to be a secret). However I must point out that this is an extremely difficult case for a mod project such as this as it is not ATX form factor and must be converted.
Also if anyone has any IBM Aptivas lying around they don't need/want. Please PM me, I want them. There are a few other Aptiva cases beside this case that I will also consider buying but this is my favorite. I am even interested in damage ones.
Man I think this would be awesome to get into. I just wish I could donate more. If its not too late my vote is on MAWF if we have heard from them. I think Crimson should be the one working on this if we're still trying to figure that out. I like the idea of 1 person/kid. The only charities I donate too and Dave Thomas Foundation and Sameritans Purse. Both because DTF money goes in and right back out again to the kids and SP because all you got to do is put some toys in a box with $7 to help ship it to another country and its Christmas present for one little boy/girl. Actually my wife has been doing more of those so we've been doing 2-3 every year. If I come across any extra thats might be good I'll post them.
The MAWF thing kind of de-railed. Not sure why but they never set us up with anyone after several tries. Now the original hardware is no longer available.
Bah, that stinks. Maybe we can get this going again some other time. The drive was there at the beginning then kinda fell of as I was reading. Some of the arguing mad me sad though. Its for the kids do it for them!!
That does suck. Not to sound umm... pushy or anything there is another charity PC that just started. Link in my sig \/ \/ \/
You know I forgot to subscribe to that one and I forgot about it. I'll have to see what I can scrap up and give when I can.
