I still have Win3.1 install disks around here somewhere. One of these days I might have to play around with a floppy orchestra too. This one looks like it could use a custom case with some sort of resonator (like an acoustic guitar).

Personal song selected:
Axel F. It's one several, including my teacher, will recognize. They may not know the name, but I'm pretty sure most will recognize the tone.
And it is DONE AND BUILT!
It was a HIT at school! People were amazed at the fact that floppy drives are now officially a musical instrument!
Quick thing:

Help?
I got bit by the urge to goof around with floppy drives too. I managed to find (5) floppy drives that I could scrounge, and one that the case wasn't going to give up (really old HP case, doesn't want to open). I have data cables enough to hook up 4 of them. Need to find a way to power them (probably will wire wrap them). Will post something up when I get sound.
First track to play: Jean Michel Jarre- Equinoxe 4
Have one drive hooked up. Sketch uploaded to my Arduino UNO. Just waiting for (heopefully) the last Java thing to install and we'll be up and running...
Try this out:
Yeah, I kind of figure I'm gonna need a tracker program since a lot of the stuff I've been trying doesn't use track 1 or 2... or is doing something the drive's won't do. Got two drives hooked up now with far cleaner wiring.
Thanks for the assist on the software side of things. It was getting really frustrating.
No problem. The weird thing is, you started by doing the exact same procedures as I did.
Do you have a good recommendation for software (WinXP) for splitting and reconfiguring MIDI files? I've got a few files that I really want to get working, but they are obviously not set up for the way the drives work. I will need to split single tracks with multiple notes and will need to move notes to other tracks and/or change the instrument type used.
