;)
Big update coming tomorrow..
it's past tomorrow....
It sure is!
I managed to land an HP elitebook to use for this project, but it turns out that it's dead. :( I'll return to my original unit, a DV6000. In the meantime, a second machine, a Fujitsu lifebook fell into my lap, so I'm looking into using it.. the CPU fan is failed, so I'm trying to rig up a replacement.. once I have something concrete assembled, I'll update.
I dont want to get all hopes up again until I have something worthy of posting.. :( I should have kept my mouth shut until I knew that other HP was working.. dammit.. Quadro card on it too. :(
It's about time!
In the last year, I've been through some tough (financial) times. At the same time, many of our forum members here have had serious health problems, lost family or friends etc, so my troubles were pretty minor by comparison. I hope that everyone is well, and that you are all blessed with good fortune!
I've decided to give this project another attempt! I'll be salvaging as much as I can from the previous iteration, and I'll still be sticking to the "Zero dollars" mantra!
At the moment, I've got the HP running Ubuntu on my desk, and I've been trying to get a good feel for capability and functionality as an AIO type machine. I'm almost ready to spend money on a touchscreen overlay, just to get that functionality, but at the same time.. zero dollars.. and I want to stick to that.
The new job is going to be a huge stress reliever for my family, as the hours at this one were just getting out of control; as I handed my resignation, I calculated that I have 5.5 weeks of banked time.. since May.
No new pictures as of yet, but I promise that I'll complete this project ASAP! Pictures and regular updates are back on the schedule!
I hate being unable to finish a project, particularly something that had such potential, and got so much positive feedback. Life gets in the way. *sigh*
Stick with me, I'll make it through!
