P.S. Rank, how was youre vacation ?!
Looking really, really, really professional, and ultra-sexy to boot, defyant. You never fail to impress.
Gearhead, thanks mate. hehe. Vacation was a blast. I'm going to try to get a few pics up this weekend, I met a really cool street performer playing violin dressed in a full Darth Vader costume, which was pretty neat. Plus I got to tour through the Miniature Museum and see Buchart Gardens, which was beautiful. A good time.
Darth Vader on the fiddle? You'll have to post pics of that.
Defyant, amazing! I'm crossing my fingers to get a result half as good. Well actually, I keep redoing things until they're perfect. But that means my mod won't be done for at least . . . 30 or so years. kidding kidding, but you do incredible, professional quality work.
Thanx again guys :) darth vader playing violin!!...i'm already thinking Full clear Plex violin! with blue internal led lighting!!! :) the mini museum and gardens sounds very interesting mate! i would also like to see some pics :)
Now that the freshly painted panels have had a day to "set" I was eager to see how the front clear Plex Blades were going to look on the pearl!
I have to say i was tragically dissapointed! my 5star flag ship had turned into a "titanic"..... the plex blades really offered nothing... just looked like fat glowing blue sausages... while the idea was ok early in the build.... now that the panels were coated these offered no contrast against the class of the Pearl Paint.
I pretty much went to bed an unhappy camper. At about 1am (as it usually is with me) the idea came to me in the form of the good o'l Defyant mouse mats!
Remember these? :D
It was streight to the plex shop bright and bleery eyed @ 7am this morn for some cut to size plex goodness!!!
I was back by 8AM armed with the new FRONT and SIDE BLADES! As you can see the new blades will be a GLOSS black a 3 layer design with a clear plex middle layer thats will light with the 3 colours of the case!
The THICKER of the 2 is 2 x 8mm black strips and one 2mm middle clear the longer side blades are 4mm and 2mm clear.
First thing to do is cut what will be the new CDROM door! Using a "thingamajig" the shape of the front panel is copied to the plex.
Then over to the band saw for some cutting.
Still looking a bit bulky atm!
So it's down to the router for some intial shaping.
Now the long task of hand sanding begins! this goes thru a stack of steps! the first being a ruff sand with 100 grit dry then 400 grit.
Then it's over some 3 lots of wet rubbing! first 400 wet and dry then 800 with 1500 for fine finsihing.
Finally to bring back some of that Gloss black shine some hand compound rubbing.
Gotta throw in the old "outside shot" :)
The process is done 2 more times to create the middle and lower blades! one of wich will be modified to be the ATX switch :)
I like the mouse pad! The new blades look sweet! Happy Modding!

With some Blue light action! a much Classier look.
The same process is done with the new Side panel Blades these will replace the old clear ones.
Also got a qick chance to hook up the top HDD activity light for a qik look see :)
OMG! excellent craftsmanship... i'm stunned and speecless...
 I can't believe you weren't happy with it.......
Having said that, that is probably exactly the reason you're turnin' out mods of this quality...
Fair play that man, you are a bit good.
Drew
Wow, and I thought the plain blue looked good. The black with the blue stripes looks fantastic. I love it man.
same here. i can't wait to see it done.Quote:

Thanx once again guys :) theres always room for improvement :) even mow i'm still improving old mods in small ways!
As i learn somthting new or a better way of doing a mod i'll go back and update all my older mods. HP2 is a classic example :)
Continuing on from the last post is the the Top activity light! this really was a pain in the ass to work ou in the end!
i wanted this top light to flash with HDD activity....Proving almost impossible without advanced electronics (which is like a diff language to me)
i decided to cheet! and use the Same idea that i had used in the "STORM'D mod!
The easy way was to use EL wire! and a "sound sensitive power supply" the sound pickup box can be sat right behind the HDD and pick on on the noise made when the HDD is in use and flash!
Of course! to work in with the rest of the mod.... Blue and Red lighting is needed.
The sound box! the mic will sit right behind the HDD! and can have it's sensativity adjusted for best light effect.
The HDD and CDROM bay.
The sound box will be sat @ the rear and the HDD placed in front as shown.
Next is to run the EL wire thru its new home.
Temp tape is used and hot glue is applied and the tape later removed.
A qick test
The excess EL wire is cut off and the next task is to wire it into the exsisting wiring.
The exsisting wiring? Hardly! time to make a start :P the nervous system will run in the base of HP3! this is where the bulk of cons and switches will run.
First thing to do is to add the light switches, these will control the RED,BLUE,and 3rd colour.
Next is to attach the base.
Spagetti time!
With the bulk of the basic electrics done in the base motherboard and case internals can be hooked up again.
The plex FAN box can be placed in and hooked up to power.
HDD mountes can be conneted and installed with CDROM
Some pealry panel action!!
The MEGA res can have barbes attached and bolted in using SS hex heads.
And the PLEX psu can be added for some power!!!!
As you guys can see! thyr's plenty of free lighting being thrown out and this is all thats needed to light up the front blades!
Using double side "Clear silicon" tape the front door blade is attached
At the moment there is no eject switch! but if the middle blade can be converted for the atx switch , thyrs now reason why i cant convert the bottem one for the CDROM eject button :D
The tray is ejected to check for door position and tray clearances.
The Middle and lower blades are added for a "looksee" :) and are not as yet funtional.
Again! passive lighting is all that needed for the blades to light up!
And of course! some free RES lighting as well :)
defyant, i want to move to australia just to learn to mod from you.
using a sound-sensitive controller on the HDD light switch?
ROFL! That's bloody brilliant!
I dont know what else can be said!! It's INCREDIBLE as usual. Fantastic work!!
I'm speechless......a fantastic project....you are a legend!
Mark
I wish I knew words to describe the greatness of all of your work
He's In Australia??? Where??
Your all welcome over anytime :) just remember it's BYO!!!:D
A qick update!
Heres what i came up with for the inclusion of a CROM eject button. The obviouse choice is to use the lowest front light blade.
Its a simple spring loaded keyed sliding cylinder design.......
The mats needed.
Simple slide design
What will be the inner cylinder is keyed and the outer is slotted.
The inner keyed cylinder is plex glued to the Front blade.
For the assemble to lock together a clear nut is placed inside the keyed part.
To hold the locking nut into positon and to stop it sliding back out a smaller holed rod is pressed fitted and glued.
The over hang will be trimmed away to sit flush.
Next it to make the outer "keyed" cylinder.
This outer cylinder will house the Spring, so it needs to be plugged and glued.
The spring can now sit inside of the outer cylinder
Using the long clear screw the assembly can be screwed togther.
The movement is smooth and slides very well. Next i'll add the Micro switch and attach the unit to the fron of the case.
bloody hell that is pure genius dude
you make wonders with those plex tube switches
this is AMAZING. your attention to detail is remarkable! astounding! cheers!
your work is far beyond what words can describe
It is projects like these that lure us lurkers out of hiding. Brilliant creativity and excellent workmanship!
This, sir, would be a contour tool.

Cheers brouhaha tyvm mate :)
Thanx all for the great comments!
Part2
The CDROM switch mechanism needs to connect to a switch! i chose a micro switch, similar to the one CDROMS use!
The joining switch connector needs to be a disconect-able from the main mech, Again using clear tube heres what i came up with.
Ive cut a castle device to hold the micro switch
The castle gets pressed into a larger tube and the 2 are glued as one.
An old HDD activity loom + plug are recycled and used.
The micro switch and wires are pressed in.
As can be seen the two units can be fitted togther as one!
The unit needs to have a locking device! a doweled keyway design is used.... much like a press fit lightbulb.
The switch is hot glued secure
Then it's a push
And a twist locks it all together!
A simple soloution is used to connet to the CDROM
Hard to see.. but a paper clip is cut into 2 small pins.
With the base of the cdrom removed to the cut pins are tinned and soldered directly to the eject pins on the board
The idea of this method rather than direct soldering is that i now can have a "removable" option .. much like on your motherboard.
the best can be secured again and the unit flipped over. The 2 connecting pins stick neatly out from the cdrom and can be easily connected to.
a final and action shot !
Necessity is the mother of invention, and that Sir is just bloody clever. Never would have thought to use a paper clip to extend the leads and in turn have a removable connection for easy swaps.
How many times can I say it? Brilliant stuff, man.
he did it again what can say.... bad Defyant, bad, bad, Defyant <spank> :D
