Saturday is the date for dinner. I am planning on being there that day and probably part of Friday too.
BTW: I am in Boulder Creek...

I'll be there all 3 days, Thursday Friday and Saturday. Gotta guard the 'crawler from the masses :) And of course dinner on Saturday, that should be fun!
I would like to go to this! distance and school however will not permit the trip.
sadly, the one mod I started ended fast, my ps2 died :p although I have a few ideas kicking around for my decrepit laptop and a xbox I frankensteined to get working again.
I got my confirmation email today that they do want my computer there and on display. I also got information about guest reservations, etc. Also I got info for reserved parking. Cool! Too bad I won't be there personally. Anyone else got the confirmation that they're in yet?
Marcus sent me this after talking on the phone, and the idea of a "live mod" was tossed out;
It was nice to finally talk to you by phone earlier! Now and days everything
is done by a computer or the internet, sometimes we have to stick to our
roots, the good ol' phone!
Anyways,
I just finish talking to my manager, Craig Anderson, and he loves the idea
of building a case mod live from start to finish. Though, we most likely
won't be able to broadcast a live webcast with our equipment but we
encourage you guys to webcast it if we go forward with this. Do you think it
would be possible to build a case mod in the course of 3 days? We do have a
vinyl cutter, laser cutter and a few other resources you guys may be able to
use.
Ideas?
BTW:
One thing that came to mind last night, and I am going to run this by the event staff, was to have a display of "Modding tools". Basic tools used by every modder.
Here is my list so far...
Dremel!
drill
exacto knife
screwdrivers
files
rattle cans (the messier, the better)
...
More?
Can you believe I don't own a dremel? I suspect my modding life would be easier if I did...
Other tools I've used in addition to the ones above:
Utility knife
hacksaw
circular saw
power sander
superglue
ruler
more superglue
calculator
soldering gun
even more superglue
a live mod would be very interesting indeed, although I personally have never modded an actual case. Hacked them apart for parts, yes. Left one semi-intact for actual use, no. :)
I got the following email from Craig Anderson this morning:
There is so much happening at this event! We’ll will have pin-stripers detailing laptops, cell phones, and what ever else someone brings their way. Our PIE (Play Invent Explore) Department will be hosting a “Mod Your Own” workshop allowing visitors to design their own vinyl decals. Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories will show off some of their tech-fusion creations. The Computer History Museum will have some of the “firsts” on display and while Sellam Ismail, of the Vintage Computer Festival, will host a hands-on exhibition so visitors can test their skills on the green screen. The Chinese American Abacus Society will be giving abacus demonstrations as well as hosting an abacus make & take station. All of this, in addition to you fabulous modders, should make for a fabulous few days at the Exploratorium.
Below are a some important logistical details, factoids, and a few requests that will get us all on the same page:
Where We Are:
The Exploratorium is located at 3601 Lyon Street, San Francisco. (directions and map)
When We’ll Do This:
The hours of the Rods & Mods event are from 12p.m. to 5p.m., February 11, 12, and 13, 2010. The museum is open from 10am to 5pm each day.
Your Arrival:
Parking on Thursday morning will be reserved for your convenience for one vehicle per presenter on the side of the Exploratorium, on Lyon St. (also known as Palace Drive). Cones (or something similar) will block each reserved parking space. (Please see attached map for a visual of exactly where these spots will be.) Feel free to move the cones out of your way and park your car there. When arriving, please come in the front doors to register at the Exhibit Registration Table so you can get a nametag and a table number can be assigned to you. You may then begin loading in your exhibits from the side door on Lyon St. We will have staff and carts on hand to help with loading in and setting up your exhibits.
Sponsorship Displays:
We understand that many of the Rods & Mods participants have corporate sponsorships from various sources. While we understand that these sponsors will want to have their name displayed, the Exploratorium requests that logo displays and branding be kept to a minimum. We recommend any combination of the following: up to a 4”x6” card with company logo, on-screen displays, business cards, verbally discussing your sponsors.
Food:
Presenters will be given a meal ticket each day worth up to $10.00 to be used at the Exploratorium Café.
Green Room:
There will also be a “green room” set up for presenters, their families, and for people who are helping presenters. This will be a place to store personal items as well as a place to retreat from the crowds, if needed. This is also a good place to conduct an interview in the event that a member of the press approaches you.
Breaks:
Staff and volunteers will be available to give presenters breaks when they need one. In the event that a display must be left unattended, we will provide rope stanchions to keep visitors an arms length away from displays when there is no one to
Display Space:
The Exploratorium will provide table space for all presenters. A single table will be shared by up to two presenters, depending on the number of mods each presenter will bring. We will provide electricity to, at the very least, all tables that have mods that need power for their display. We will also prepare signage for each mod and each modder using the information you provided to us earlier.
Overnight Storage:
For your convenience and security, we will provide a safe, locked room to store your mod in on Thursday and Friday nights when everything is closed.
Guests:
Presenters are allowed to place up to three guests on our “guest list”. They will be allowed access to the museum during all three days of the event. Please be sure to send in your guest reservations to sbahr@exploratorium.edu before Wednesday 2/10. Your guests can just go to the admissions counter at their time of arrival and let the admissions staff member know their name and that they are on the guest list. Your name will also be on the guest list as a presenter each day.
Load-Out:
Most presenters will be loading their exhibits out on the 13th, after 5p.m. If you cannot load your exhibits out on Saturday by 5p.m., it is critical that you prearrange another time and date with Craig Anderson at canderson@exploratorium.edu. Load-out will be done through the side doors. Parking spaces and access will be reserved for presenters’ vehicles on Saturday afternoon for your convenience.
I know I am really not part of the TBCS crew but I will be there will three of my mods (Autopsy, American Flag, and Cherry X Back Pack). Look forward to seeing you all there!
Spagetti factory is always good, not sure if there is one in SF though.
About being a TBCS'er, I completely agree with Airbozo
