Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
UUUUUUUUUPDATE.
I center punched all the areas that I have to cut out. This way the drill bit doesnt run around. It is very important that I punch the very center. I dont want to drill pst any of the lines, that could screw up the piece. Seriously.
Here are two of them all drilled out and ready to cut.
Now,... I waisted a ton of time today looking for my scroll saw blades. I couldnt find them ANYWHERE! I think I threw them out by mistake. Anyways,... I hade to go to the store to get more. I got these spiral blades which cut in all directions. They are good for exactly what I plan on using them for,... cutting out shapes.
Here is the second piece almost done. I only got two of them done today. I was kinda slacking offfff,........................... SPONGE BOB! What did I say!!!! No calling for help! Damnit,... don't you ever listen? I'm gettin plankton on your ass now,...
HOOOOOO!!! SHIIIIIIT!!! Plankton, what the hell are you doing!!! I said rough him up,... not cut him in half with my scroll saw!!! DAAAAAAMN!
Dude,... your nuts are history!!! WHA HA HA!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANYWAYS,.... ha ha,.... yea. Here are the two pieces I finished scroll sawing! Don't they look swell! They still need to be filed down.
Tomorrow I will finish these pieces,... no slacking off. Peace!!!

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Cool. Nice job. I didn't even know they had spiral scroll saw blades... I'll have to get some to do my mod, which I really should post my ideas... hmmm..

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
the inner shields looks superb! And LOL with bob! I understand why you couln't procied with the scoll saw on him... A man can never do that to another man! Bob was just an inch from becoming Bobline. :P Poor bob...

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
OK,... HERE IT IS IN ALL IT"S GLORY!!! It's not done but still,... it is friggin COOL!
Here I have an inner shield in the vise so I can file the designs out.
Here are all the pieces filed down and sanded. I am now ready to bend them.
Again, here is the prototype and the bend I need to accomplish.
This is th epipe I am going to use to bedn the pieces. The pipe radius is the same as the radii of the case corners.
See how it fits nicely:)
Now,... a good thing is that when I first tried bending aluminum I hd scoured a straight line from one side of the pipe to the other. I used this line to line up the aluminum for the bend. Well,... it didnt work because it was hard as heel to line up the aluminum and keep it on the line. Anyways,... I am going to use this line once again to bend these pieces. This tim eI have a VISE to help me.
Now,... both sides of the piece needs to be straight. Only the mid section needs to be bent. What I will start bending from the opposite side where the bolts go. I do this because I can stop bending when I get to that side, that means that side will be straight because I didnt bend it. The other side that I started bending from will be bent. It needs to be somewhat straight too. I can easily bend it back some to straighten it out. So I have to line up the side opposite of where the bolts go, with the line on the pipe.
I will then tape the piece to that line to make it easier when clamping it down in the vise.
I cut a new piece of angled aluminum to go in the vise with the piece to protect it from having the pattern of the jaws imprinted on it. This angled aluminum is slightly shorter then the inner shield itself. I did this so I can see if the piece is on the line. Heres one side lined up,...
Heres the other side,...
Once I have the pipe and piece clamped down tight,... using a piece of wood and a hammer I begin hammering away. You have to hammer from where the piece is clamped down and out. Dont start anywhere else because it wont bend around the pipe. It will kind of fold ontop of it. I have to be careful to make sure I hammer this piece evenly from one side to the other. Some of the areas are weaker then others and therefore will try and fold rather then bend nicely. Any folding can be easily tpped out using a small hammer.
This is what you should get when done.
Looks good but not perfect yet.
Heres why,... see the side of the piece closet to the barbs? It's round, needs ot be more straight. Also,... by the bolts, it's hard to see in the pic but its a bit round there too. The closest edge to the camera or the outline of the piece is round so it may look as if my bend is more round then it really is.
Heres after fixing it.
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
This is more like it. That once edge there by the barbs needs to be straightened out a bit more. It looks dented. but you get the idea.
Heres a preview with the prototype side.
Here's two of them done.
See how the the two pieces look kind of whole? Thats what I want.
All of them done.
Shot with some tygon hooked to the pump. How cool does that look!
Polished up!!! SWEET!
With the polished sides. The sides are not bolted down, they are just leaning.
In the case without the sides on.
Now,... theres a problem. The UV accents are pretty much the same shape as the aluminum pieces. The UV accents get bolted along with the aluminum pieces. Now,... the problem,... the UV accents for the inner shields are going to go under the aluminum pieces. I fI bolt it along with the aluminum the aluminum pieces will be pushed 1/8" away from the center. Which means the middle or vertical gap will be 1/4" larger then I want it to be. It will be larger then the horizontal gap. I need to figure out how I will fasten the UV accents. Anways,... WHAT DO YOU THINK!!! COOL EHH???

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Quick update because I got to go,...
Here I'm going to cut the UV equivalents. I'm going to to do it the same way I cut most of my plastic. Thats because it works so well:)
Here's one done. Perfect.
Here are all of them done.
Drilling the mounting holes. Dont forget to brace the back of the acrylic piece with some wood so you dont crack the holes at the rear. You can use a little bit of grease too.
Absolutely done. Damn thats cool.
Ok,... check this one out. This is how I am goign to incorporate the computers name. I am going to cut "BLACKOUT" out of the remaining black aluminum from when I cut out my windows from the cases side panel. Then I will cut a UV green equivalent and then light it the hell up! It's going to behind the mobo tray. I think it would lok smokin behind the tinted window!!!
I was not able to make the inner shield equivalents because I didnt know how to. But I now what I have to do and how to do it now so tomorrow I will do that. It is hard as hell though. I really hate bending acrylic!
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
I wouldn't worry about bending the acrylic for the curved pieces. It looks freakin awesome with just the two UV reactive pieces on either side of the pump. It'd be overkill(pun intended) to bend acrylic for theother part of the shield.
Also, I hope you didn't mount those pieces to the metal because it wont work if they are all on the same side. Two of them need to be ont he left and two on the right side of the shield.
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
damn dude, a lil bit more work and youre done!! since the hard parts done, what are you gonna use for the coolant and the actual hardware for the computer?
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Those UV accents look awesome. Diggin the res shields too. Can't resist saying it again.. that polish you put on could EASILY be mistaken for chrome. Excellent work! Can't wait for more!
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
i've seen this mod on many forum.... and the only thing i can say.... : WOW! AMAZING!!!
you're an artist!
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Those res shields could be in a HR Geiger painting man, simply awe inspiring. Your work log is like a drug, and damn am I addicted, totally 'blackout' dependant. I'm booking in to the methadone clinic tommorrow :)
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Thanks for the compliments guyz! Don't do drugz,... DO BLACKOUT! LOL.
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
I think I hate you... I want that case so bad after seeing that glow under the outer piece. I think im gonna go cry now and sit in a feetle position till i come to terms that that case is not mine. (this is my form of flatary :P)
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
I got it! I got it to work!!! I am most likely going to go with my original plans of using the two little bolts to hold the plastic to the shields. I have one piece of plastic to shep and cut to the general size. I have file it down to its absolute size and then drill holes. It's going to look friggin crazy!!!
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
I KNOW!! ITS GONNA LOOK 1337!! good luck with the rest of the project, and good job with the previous stuff.
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
legoman by any chance are you sammah?
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
sammah? is that a religion? i'm lost, i just watched a psychological thriller and i'm still like "what the heck happened?" so unless you explain it, i wont know. thanx

lol no one of my friends screen names is legoman and his alias on most everything else is sammah since his name is sam :)
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
THEY ARE DONE! PROCESSING PICS,... Please Hold.
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
IT'S HERE!!! LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! I PRESENT TO YOU,... MY PUMP SHIELDS!!! There's 36 pics:D Thi sis like 2 days worth of pics. Anyways,... lets get to it.
Even though I already tried this the first time and failed,... I tried it again and it work great! I was tired as hell and was rushing. Thats why it didnt work the first time. Anyways,... I cut a piece of green just big enough for the piece. I heated it so it was flexible and then put it on the pipe. I bent it around the pipe a bit and then heated it some more. Once hot enough I pressed a shield over it. I was wearing gloves and had a towel over it. It gets hot as hell. So it molded just fine. The edges bowed up but thats ok seeing they are getting cut off.
Once I had all 4 formed, I taped them up and traced the shields on them. I sent them through the scroll saw cut away most of the excesss.
All four pieces trimmed to their general size.
I used a belt sander that I had upside down. Instant table sander:) I ground away the rest of the excess to its absolute size. This worked very well. I originally started using the hand file :shock:.
Also,... I knifed the edges too. There were certain mentions of these panels being to much. So I decided to not the the edges of the aluminum shields glow. So, I knifed the edges so you wouldnt see anything around the edges at all. Plus it made it alot easier to fit them once moutned to the pumps.
Perfect!
Gawd, how cool. It makes me think of filling or something. I dont know. Weird.
Only the designs should glow.
PERTY! This is with the tape on! This is why I diffused the acrylic. It lights up so much more easier now.
Now,... it's time for mounting holes. I taped off the aluminum shields to keep from damaging them.
I used a piece of cardboard to make my marks, professinal huh? LOL.
After I drilled the aluminum shields I did the Uv ones.
Diffused the UV shields. I left a nice coarse diffuse too using coarse sadn paper. I sanded all in one direction. I think it looks nice and it helps to capture the light really well.

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Yeah BABY!!!
Yeah BABY!!!
Yeah BABY!!!
A shot of the inside with spacers in place. I cut those bolts because they were to long. I ended up not using them. I got new ones that were the right size.
DONE!
Lit up!
Inside the case with tinted window up. The tint doesnt really filter out the purple that much. What it does filter out is alot of the glare.
A ruler I got because I am going to need it tomake LEGO's windows for his project.
LEGO's from gruntville donated this airbrush he had lying around. He sai dI could have it because he knows I'll put it to good use:) And that I will:) It's an IWATA brush:) Sweet! I am making his windows for him return:)
So yeah, there you have it. Time to move on. I am going to make LEGO's windows and then I plan on finishing the pump tower. PEACE EVERYBODY!!

Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Holy crap, I could cry. You continue to amaze and inspire me.
I've got a monster (quite literally) of a scratchbuild/mod coming up in a few months that I've got planned, and you can count on me hounding you with questions every step of the way.
Your level of craftsmanship stuns me. You've got incredible vision and mastery of your tools.
-
Re: TRIBALOVERKILL, "Blackout" Updated--> 06/24/05
Check this out,... this is what the name of the case is going to look like. Actually it's going to look better:D
It's going to go on the back of the mobo tray towards the top, staring out through the window. Each letter will be cut as a separate pieces. Each letter will have a UV green equivalent to give the letter it's glow. The letters will be cut out of the remaining black lian-li aluminum from when I installed the case windows. It will give it an extra dark look to it. Plus I need something to do with that aluminum. Cant let it go to waiste.
Also,... casemodgod.com is the last forum I am going to add my log to. I just dont have time to add it to any others. BUT,... if there is a forum you really want the log added to, if you could spare about an hour of your time, I will email you all the updates in text format and you can do it:) Just email me the forum you wan to add it to and I will create a log there and you can reply all the updates yourself. Once you are done email me again and I will add it to my list of sites to update regularly. Cool? Peace.
