Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
Update: I put in a better 120mm fan and manually set GPU fan to run 50%. CPU runs between 40-50c and GPU runs between 65-75c. Thanks guys!
I picked up a 2nd hand PC off a friend of mine, it originally was in an x-clio a380, and the case was severely beat up (and dirty). I decided to move it to a case that I actually liked and wasn't a full tower.
I've since moved everything over, but am having the same problems with temps that the x-clio was having. I installed the nvidia system monitor and it reads:
GPU Cooler: 38%
GPU Temp: 77c
MCP Temp: 78C
I can't seem to find just a plain "cpu temp", so I'm assuming the MCP is that. I opened up the case last night to make sure the fans were blowing in a decent direction (mix of in and out), and I noticed the air temp felt really warm. Right now I'm using the stock fans that came with the case (1x 80mm side intake, 1x 120mm rear exhaust). I have 1 more 80mm and another 120mm coming from new egg hoping to perhaps install a top blowhole with the 120mm and mount the 80mm up front to help with more intake (or on the other side intake slot).
After enough research I've noticed that the "optimum" (that most people want) is somewhere around 40-50c with any piece. The temps haven't shown any obvious effects on performance (the previous owner had the system for at least a year).
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, but I would just like to point out that I hate "ghetto-rig" jobs and (unfortunately) I'm low on capital for major modification (sorry, no water cooling).
Thanks in advance.
p.s. I filled in what I could for PC specs in the profile, I don't know all the specs, but ask any question you feel the need to, I'll try to answer as best I can.
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
If I am not mistaken the nVidia tools only monitor the video card. Download "speedfan" and run it and post your temps. It will show you the cpu temp and lots of other info...
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
also you could post some pics of how the interior is set up as well. check to make sure he doesn't have it over clocked to the point of absurdity.
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
Ok, installed speedfan and what I have so far is:
GPU: 77c
Temp1: 42c
Temp2: 41c
CPU: -64c (that can't be right)
Internal Temp: 37c
Remove Temp: -64c (once again...can't be right)
core: 19c

Yeah on some motherboards a few of the temps look whaky.
I am pretty sure though that "core" is the number you are looking for. I will double check tonight when I am home or someone else can chime in...
Welcome to TBCS BTW!
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
what operating system are you using in it? do you know your processor? speed fan has some known glitches for certain processors.
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
System:
Win 7 32bit
ASUS M2n-SLI Deluxe board
AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 5000+
Geforce 8800 GT
Corsair 1gb DD2 (not sure of anything else on it)
I believe the CPU cooler is the stock one.
I have no OC'd a thing, I'm not comfortable enough to contemplate it.
Plus... I'd like to maybe get this heat thing under control.
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
Core is usually the CPU temp. If that's it, yours is really good.
Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.
Now I just need to figure out how to drop the GPU down from the 77c it's currently running... :smoker:
I'm going to probably buy a slot cooler in the near future.
Vantec
I wouldn't mind switching to water cooling in the future, just not sure if i have the space in the case (or my wallet) to pull it off.

i would the temp monitoring with this
http://download.cnet.com/Core-Temp-3...-10794077.html
sometimes a different view works better. otherwise you should look into a program called everest (its what i use) but some pics of your internals would be good too, to post pics i would use either photobucket or imageshack. in a pinch you can go into the bios and look at the temps in there too. That will eliminate any software based issues.
