Urgent help needed!! For all you car freaks out there!!

I just got a message from my boyfriend about this new car he bought, and I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what he's talking about!! So to prevent a case of national disaster, I need to find out what it means before he comes online and asks my opinion of it.

Don't ask why I can't just ask him what it means.

The car model is a 180sx, and this is what the message said:
sr20 engine. 180kw at rear wheels. hks intercooler. buffs blow off valve. nismo body kit. white.

I assume white means white, but what does the rest of it mean??

It's a Nissan 180SX. Here's a pic of a white one with a body kit (though it may not be a Nismo body kit):

180kw at the rear wheels means it has a decent amount of power (kw being the metric unit of power measurement)
SR20 is a 2.0 litre 4 cyclinder engine.
HKS Intercooler is an aftermarket part for cooling the air going into the intake. It's like a radiator, except it only has air go through it, no liquid.
The blow off valve is that thing on turbo cars that makes them sound like they are sneezing when they change gears.

I'm no car person.. but:

engine info, I'd say it's a good one..

180kw is the power of the car.. in Europe it's usually in horse power, but I think 180kw is a nice value :)

an intercooler is a radiator used to cool down something in engines with forced air intake. Having one denotes that the engine gives more power than usual.. kinda like the words turbo or compressor.. I think

nismo makes stuff for nissan cars, kinda like we do with cases and case parts :) but for car modding:) A good thing too :) why it's lit, I don't know :)

Wait until you hear the blow off valve, theyre soooooooo sexy! Whenever there is a big drop in revs the valve just lets of a huge big hiss sorta sound to let off extra turbo preassure.
And here is a 180sx with a nismo body kit

That'd be an sr20det and get rid of that BOV unless he likes compressor surge lol.

It's about 240 rwhp. Depending on what he paid, that's nothing special considering I'm sure the internals are stock so no bumping up the boost. :hurt:

well its not the best ive seen, but for a car close to stock its still better than normal. i have a couple of friends back in my hometown with 180sx's and they are pretty fast. but one is a drifter and the other is a retired street racer now. but both cars had at least 500whp. but that's going off subject.

but saying that, my dad had his Volvo 740 2.5T upped to about 450HP, its was **** HOT, and there was no after stuff added, was as such,

Volov added it all for him at his request, all certified stuff. Basicly what the cops used at the time.

not as mad as my dads stock sl55 AMG, which hits 493 HP stock... Easily into the upper 500's and low 600's with some kits.

He'd never do it though. Nor would any sane person.

yea if i had a stock car with that much power, i would just put cash into making it look nicer. new paint job, change the inside.

custom built 6.0 ford racing motor... full rebuild of the vavletrain and everything... titanium valve springs u name it.... ford racing forged pistons... ya know all the goodies.... supercharger at 25 PSI ... well over 700HP and has a 150 shot of laughin gas...

To be honest, I'm trying to learn more about cars because 1) They are actually pretty cool, like computers, and 2) He really really likes cars. He likes them a lot. He talks about cars as much as he talks about computers, and when I don't understand what he's talking about, it can get a bit boring. Plus I'm actually interested in what car he bought, and he wanted to know what I thought of it.

He also said I'd be the perfect girl if I like computers AND cars, but that has nothing to do with it, really ;)

That's what I fully intend to do, if y'all willing to help me out while I get my head around this whole car thing. Last night he went on msn and asked me what I thought before anyone replied to this thread, I had to keep changing the subject until Bucko and dgrmkrp replied.

I think he paid about 12 grand for it, I'm not sure. When I see it I'll find out more about it and you guys can explain everything to me.. I am just so utterly confused right now...

12 grand is a lot of money. That's what they wanted for my Mustang when I bought it; I got it for under $10,000. It has 487 rear wheel horsepower. He may of been able to do better than 12k, but then again maybe not. I don't know how long he's been searching. Took me 4 months to find this car I have and a good deal at the same time.

Remember this is Australian dollars, which roughly converts to 10 grand USD.

Oh ok, you said dollars, so I thought you meant US currency. K then if it doesn't have rust and it has good interior then it was definitely a good find.

hopefully it hasn't been rode hard and put away wet.

Ohhh yeah. I was at a Autoslalom comp the other day, got a ride in an Impreza Wrx. You could tell it had turbo....350 WHP!! the car competes in Targa Newfoundland, best rally in the the world....

By the way, 240's are way cooler than 180's...:lick:

I'm going to disagree -- 180sx's started it all, even if their displacement is less. I'm pretty sure you can still swap a SR20 (or hell, even a KA24) into it if you wanted to. Not to mention, the rarity of a REAL 180sx in the states (not just a rebadged 240) makes them worth something.

However, I'd love to own either one and probably will. 240sx's in my area sell for just about 5k, so it's definately affordable.

Oh yes I did, that's why I chose to come here for my car troubles.

He didn't end up buying it after all. So far all I can understand about cars is their colour, so I'm glad he didn't get a white car. Way too many white cars in Australia, plus black is far sexier. Turns out he wants to get a car that he can teach me to drive with, so apparently I can't drive fast cars.

I will continue to sit back and read all further car threads with renewed interest.

I think a lot of the folks here do computer case moding because it is cheaper than building up a sweet ride. No one is going to rear end the case you built up. But people will open their car door on your automotive work of art without reflection.
