That is pretty slick, but it's huuuuuge. Looks like it's based on CRT monitors and desktop type cases. I'm sure that something like that could be made much smaller with LCD's.
Still very cool looking though. :)
Ya, I was just throwing the design out there and since it would have to be homemade, dimensions could be changed to fit the room. I just think it's awesome because it looks sweet and hides every cable and is simple looking.
If it were me, I'd make it a straight desk about 9-10' long. Straighten out the top for extra shelfing and I'd put a 3 foot gap so between the 2 black pieces so it doesn't block my window. Instead of the fake marble, I'd use a dark mahogany to match my bedroom set.
Ya it is cool but I just have one problem... the monitors are way to far away. Mine are like 1' away from each other.
This is a small picture, but this is my old workstation...
Oh and it must be the Beavis or Butthead in me, but I find the company name hilarious...
Johnson Controls
Haha.. we actually deal with Johnson Controls a bit here. :D
Airbozo, what did you need a workstation like that for?
A new desk would be a good idea for me; my current setup is a piece of 3/4" chipboard (the top of a cheapo desk from 15 years ago) sitting on an old set of shelves on one side and a HP NetServer case on the other. Plus, I've got a rat's nest of cables... Hmm.
Wow, Airbozo, I don't think I've ever SEEN anything like that... We have a local company called "Johnson Abrasives" which never fails to crack me up. :D
I can't take a picture of it, but that's similar to my desk at work. I have the same problem about the distance between screens. I must not be as cool as AB, becauste I only have 4 monitors attached to the workstation.
Check these out.
Innovant has some impressive workstations!
That's pretty much what I have except black and not an L shape.
except two of them.
Ugh im in desperate need of an L workstation, but i cant find jack online from the stores that carry desks. anyone have a suggestion of a major company in america?
I've looked at office depot, ikea, staples, sears, and a few others. None of them even have L shaped desks.
For a while I ran the Engineering Labs Reality Center and Virtual Reality Center at SGI. We hosted partners and university's to come in and play with gear they could not afford to purchase. It helped a bunch of companies trying to develop products for sgi systems so it was a benefit to all involved. Notice that the image(s) on the big screen are the same as 3 of the monitors on the desk. The other monitors are connected to different systems, that with a flick of the switch (or a button on a web page), will display on the big screen (25' wide, 10' high). We also hosted "movie nights" in that lab since we could display the movie across all three screens. Since it is a curved screen, the sweet spot is just in front of the screen, but all other angles looked great. When running a simulator on that system, most people got motion sickness within 1/2 an hour... We even had a university come in and study the effects of VR sickness using that lab.
My desk at home is a glass L-shaped with black metal accents I picked up for around $100 on clearance at Office Max. L-shapes do take a lot of space though. Here at school I have a crammed wooden desk that the school provides. I'll take pictures of the desk here to show how crammed it is.
I don't want to make any jealous in here, but: here's mine
What you dont see is the 3 computers connected to that desk, and the CRT will be change this weekend for another flat panel... for my birthday :)
I have a small cheapo desk crammed next to a table that's shoved in the corner. It's really not working, especially with dual monitors which I have disabled for neck reasons. I had to tilt me head about forty five degrees to the right and about fifteen degrees up (from level) so I'd get a cramp in my neck a lot, and it was weird, lol. But yeah, corner desks ftw! Oh, and CB, is that desk from Staples?
mine consists of 3 pieces of wood banged together:P
best pic i have, the laptop is in the way for my HUGE 17" lol...
On both LCDs I have 2 inputs (analog and Digital) and a KVM for the CRT.
My KVM is only for 2 comps, I dont need keyboar/mice on the other one (server) When I need to get to it, I just plug them temporary.
My main system use 3 monitors, the second one, need 2 and the Server need one
vnc FTW!
This is simple but yet so effective ima gonna make one in the school holidayz
Thx Airbozo, but not usefull to me. It's a file server, so I can already access it from any computer. I have to add a keyboard/mouse once or twice a year. When I reboot it :)
pOPe: I like how you set up that laptop. If I ever find (and buy) a cheap usb keyboard for mine I may have to copy that.
paleyforme: Let me know where you get the speedrail connectors to make that desk. My dad is always in search of a place to get those.
Heres my desktop and work area. I like to sit high so I can see from the windows while i work:
And next to it DeskPooter:
Made the desk from part of an old coffee table and four donated kitchen worktop legs.
