Project: Moditor
hey its me again with my accual case mod now im not one of you skilled billionares so this will be to the best of my ability and to a budget of cheap dollars :P
ok this is what i have to start with (ive taken all the old guts out and yes it is an old crt)
]
lots of pics, any way i dont have any CADs so ye um thinking of a cdrom coming out of were the buttons were fans on the top of the case and maybe a window at the back for easy access... mbtray of perspex u'll see
um need a colour scheme to idea is to look standard as possible from the outside and nearly every thing clear inside...
update1
when i cut this section out i realised that there was a big (5mm) gap underneath
i will putty this up later
now the plan was to have the cd rom flat on the bottom but the smart ppl at the ktx company thought lets but some ribs in to make it hard for munkeyboy lol not to hard lil friend called mah dremel knocked that one on the head
the i had to heat up a knife with a mini blowtorch and flaten off the left overs (to lazy to sand) (pic above) looks bad atm but paint and final touch ups will fix this im buying the system as i go.
i have done more of this but i was intending on posting the full worklog when i was done but cant wait ill post more tomorrow btw im 14
tomorrow im going to the tech lab at school in lunch and sanding the mb tray
:P try to get it up to speed asap... till then
-
Re: project that needs a name
ok it seems i had a bit more time than i thought
ook the fan idea....
the plans (plans....?)
i dont have a holesaw 80mm so i just just my dremel
this is the first section
then rounded it finished sanded drilled holes
the fan to go in the hole
the problem with using that fan
the 'clever' solution (i was inspired off this site)
cut dem bits off and vwala lol
scince i did this step i manages to make the holes stuffed so i got to putty them up and drill them again.... till the next update (maybe tonight?)

Re: project that needs a name
Well we all have to start somewhere. I was about your age when I did my first mod, a clear window for my stock PC case...voiding the warranty of course ;). That was 2 years ago already, a lot happens in 2 years.
A great start and a great idea. What was the original size of the CRT your using?
I am interested to see how this turns out. +subscribe
-
Re: project that needs a name
yeah i have no clue 17 i think or 19 old n ****
um whats +subscribe mean?
im new although ive been looking around 4 ages
-
Re: project that needs a name
It just means I have subscribed to your worklog. When someone makes a new post in your worklog my User CP (Control Panel) will notify me when I log in.
While on the topic +rep means someone has given you reputation points for your work. These accumulated and eventually you get more green squares to the right of your name.

Re: project that needs a name
thanx 4 the info
ok i have more time lol
(if time was money i would be rich atm)
ok i thought i would have to have a 'front' to my case so were the old screen was i thought i would but a piece of perspecs and the firt attempt from scrap perspecs looked bad here ill put them up
the i went down to the local bunnings and did some 'haggaling' for cheaper parts (the guy cut it a little and gave it to me 75% off)
unfortunately i didnt take any early pics but u can guess
i heated it up in the oven and bent it to shape(its got glad wrap over it to protect it for the photo it has better protection now [shifty eyes])
fo the back of it like i said i thought i would put a window in i still havent decided but heres the plan if i do
or
that is the same piece of prespecs it is just better protected now
i was thinking either 2 80mm fans or 1 120mm fan like this
-
Re: project that needs a name
The 120mm fan will be quieter and probably create more air flow.
-
Re: project that needs a name
yeah thats what i thought if i do decide to make the window i will use 1 120mm fan
mb pics will come tomorrow promise
any name ideas!!!!!

Re: project that needs a name
The box with no name. It is so cool it dose not need a name.
-
Re: project that needs a name
LMAO. . HotBox. :D Will be interesting to see how this turns out.
-
Re: project that needs a name
yeah dont expect this to be an overnight project......
to get to this stage has take like 10 weeks lol just diong a bit here bit there
hot box??? meaning please
-
Re: project that needs a name
Hot box was the first thing that came to my head lol. It has no meaning.
-
Re: project that needs a name
fair enough i will probably put the name on the case somewhere
as promised i will update again today
ok today i went into the tech room at school and did a little bit of work (teacher wanted his lunch)
on the mb tray now i may be working slow but im tring to get things right
ok so this is it before i went to school
this is it still with the glad wrap and tape on when i got back (forgot the cover would come off takeing my marks with it) (wraped in glad wrap then tape so the tap glue wouldnt stick on it)
without the s*** on it
its not perfectly square but its good for now
this is a rough layout but i realised the HDD cant go up the top
-
Re: project that needs a name
so i was think i could make it go under neath the mb tray therefore making enough room for the shizzle on top
the cd rom could go infront of this still thats the rough size of a HDD btw
to do this and make the cd rack fit under neath the mb i need to cut it off here ish (top line)
for the HDD to fit with a rack on it in that spot i have to cut it at the section where it changes sizes and sand it off
my main problem in the near future is to make the mb thingo as i call it (thin on the back everything plugs into)
useable through the right hand side of the picture or left hand side if you were the case
i was thinking a hole with a guard to the thingo supporting it and ye you get it
ideas for this problem are very welcome VERY welcome im a bit puzzled on this one...
oh i think the psu will go under at the back
-
Re: project that needs a name
Cool Progress already that deserves a +Rep.
Consult the UrbanDictionary for the definition of hotbox. :D
-
Re: project that needs a name
The thing that everything plugs into is called the I/O panel.
+rep for the good progress
-
Re: project that needs a name
wow rep ^^) pitty i share this account hey lol im dont-fear btw
planning the legs for it now
i/o pannel ill try membah that cheers
-
Re: project that needs a name
Looks good! Thought of doing this once but never got around to it...
Low Radiation ... you have to leave that, man, have to. :D
-
Re: project that needs a name
Sweet! What are you planning for the front? A clear window or a flat screen?
+ rep and keep up the good work.
-
Re: project that needs a name
kk vastonecat im planning on a clear window i would put a screen but it would be small and cost to much
need to take photos and upload more updates later maybe
-
Re: project that needs a name
kk updates!!! lolz
i found that if i take out the back bit i will be able to fit 2 HDDs instead of only 1
this is the way i can do it
but without cutting the topp 'mb support' out. if it is to weak i can re-force it (cant spell btw)
this is whats going on the back to hide the HDDS
it is the back window i decided not to have the window because of a chain reaction i cant fit the psu in its original place so it will go here
then if i get some hdd racks from mah other case i can do this alot quicker and it will match
ill cut a section out of the back bit for the cords
these are the plans atm updatess this weekend

Re: project that needs a name
Ok, like I (he) mentioned before this is a shared account.
Anyway, I'm the other guy and I just wanna post my comments lol.
Ok so I think a LCD screen should be put in the front of it, you might be able to get one that is slightly damaged (small scratches) off of ebay or someone for cheap.

Re: project that needs a name
ye zac i cbf thats to hard lol it wont fit anyway :P (shot down)
we is school mates
-
Re: project that needs a name
(Original owner again)
Yes, but I remember a mod where a guy took all of the stuff off (stand, side bits etc.) so you might be able to do that.

Re: project that needs a name
Hmmm confusing lol. Yes it is possible to remove the frame off an LCD so you can mount it elsewhere. It has been done may times before and a few times in this forum. Do a thread search and you should be able to find something.
EDIT: I did the search for you.

Enjoy :).

Re: project that needs a name
yea guys it looks like i has lots of room but i dont it simply wont fit
heres another pic of what i ment for the HDDs
this is how much will stick out at the end
the parts for the back somehow go scratched so ill 'mist them'
my painting table
this is the rough very roung idea of mounting for the back
i have to cut this on off above the line
ye updates when i have some
-
Re: project that needs a name
ok this is gunna be mainly a text update
i still have to cut out the back ribs
cut out the bottem black bit
get two matching HDD racks from either the shop near my house (going tomorrow) or from an old case i have with very different mounts ill post pics of them later
putty up the gap underneath the front
putty up the top fan holes and redrill
cut the cd rom rack
work out the psu and the I/O pannel mounting
frost the 2 parts at the back and cut to size
drill the holes for everything
and more but ill try get these things done before i work out the other ones :P
this is how much room i have between the mb tray and the bottom of the case
the black thing is 2cm thick
i found if i mount a fan like so
even tho its curved it leaves no gap see
how good is that i think i will have maybe 3fans on either side havent worked out final plans yet :P
happy easter
happy modding
updates soon till then ....

Re: project that needs a name
hmmm. and people say I have issues when I carry on conversations in the office with myself staring at the computer screen, but I think they classify it as an extreme case if you're posting comments to yourself.. Anyway, this is looking good.
Hey you know what would really set people off with this thing? Mount a LCD in the side of an empty computer tower. So your computer is in the monitor and the monitor is in the computer. Or could be the stress at work getting to me:D
-
Re: project that needs a name
Haha that is a great idea. People would be like WTF??? a computer in a monitor and a monitor in a computer :? ;).
-
Re: project that needs a name
wow ur a genius ..... NOT nah i did think of that but i dont have ascreen im trying to get one
-
Re: project that needs a name
hey guys n gals if there is any that go on this site
this is a sort of update
me and my friend went to a recycled computer shop to look for cheap parts
(thanks the boy 4m oz for the idea)
and this is what we got after like 45mins of searching through 9 cases
1 10gig HDD (needed one for measurements and it was the only one there)
2 case fans + dust
1 usb and headphone jacks for the front of a case
4 fan screws
1 HDD rack
1 ide to 2sata power addapter
and i was like how much for all this
he said free im like thats not a price but thanx and then we got easter eggs (cause we are kids)
pics below
cleaned the fans
this is how much room i have underneath the mb with a real HDD
now i have 4 fans 1 for the top and three for where ever
these two i got from my old stuff
and the other two came from the computer shop
ty rontek
thats all atm
5day weekend 4 me modding here i come hopefully
oh and a piece of pvc pipe about a metre long and is the right size for a 80mm turbine if i need one, one day

This is not your account? Please explain why you don't have your own.
-
Re: project that needs a name
munkey_boy and his friend share an account. The original munkey_boy is running this mod and his friend just uses the account sometimes.
-
Re: project that needs a name
lol nope other way around
^^):P
the original munkey boy hardly uses this account
the friend(me) used it for this mod
oh im just to lazy updates soon (next few days)
