Project: Ronin :: "is now KOOLANCE Powered" 02-11-08
Project Ronin, Form Following Function...
Design Problems with off-the-shelf Casing::
1. High Ambient Temperature
The ambient temperature of the region I live in is high, and with high humidity even high end Full-Tower cases fail to cool components properly.
Solution - Create higher air flow inside casing
2. Dusty Environment
This region is also very very dusty. Regradless of how clean the area around the computer is kept, dust build-ups on components occur within weeks
Solution - Use a large filtered surface area for air in take
3. Impractical Drive Bay Configuration
In order to access optical drives, i/o modules and control switches, cases have to be placed on tables. Since Full-Tower cases are big abd bulky, a lot of space is misused
Solution - Seperate I/O Drive and Switches from main unit
4. Unflexible Case Placement-ability
Most casing windows are on the left side. This means at times the window of the case faces the wall, making the window completely pointless.
Solution - Dual Window case with Flippabe M/B Section
Material List::
1. 20mm Aluminium Square Tubes - for main structure
2. 11mm 70:30 Round Mesh Metal
3. 7mm 70:30 Round Mesh Metal
4. 7mm 40:60 Round Plastic Mesh for compartment seperation
5. 30mm x 25mm Aluminium Profile (2mm thick) - will be cut intopieces to be used as angles
6. 2mm Thick Aluminium Sheet
7. 9mm x 1.3mm Rivets
8. 6mm x 0.9mm Rivets
9. 7mm x 1.5mm Hex Bolts
