Re: scratch plexi case builds
Oooooh, fun. Plexi. My first case mod project was to build a plexi case from scratch. I had no idea what I was in for. 8)
Didn't turn out too bad, and my wife still uses the case, so that's something. Let me know if you need any pointers.
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yeah its going to be fun, if anybody is wondering, no my other project is not on hold , im just waiting for my paypal to be verified so i can buy all the parts necissary, i will buy the parts for this computer on a later date when i finish the cases themselves
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds

Re: scratch plexi case builds
NOOOO rule 1 never waste anything if you dont want it i or any1 else will have it
other than that good job
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
true I was thinking about using that waste for the hdd cage, but remember i saved all this plexi from the garbage at my work
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Yay Update, i started cutting and got the basic pieces done
heres the side panels 20"x17" and the frame pieces
then these white pieces will be bent in a 90 degree angle so they will end up as the corners

Just wait till you hit something with a router. It's been quite a while since I built my plexi case, and I'm still finding "snow" around my workshop!

Re: scratch plexi case builds
ok not do much of an update bcause i was in such a hurry i forgot to take pictures, i got all the peices cut except 80mm fan holes dvd drive and io shield holes, took some of that "waste" plexi bent it, drilled it, and wet sanded it to make the hdd cage. im going to take pics, and should have it assemled for the most part on sunday, thats all for the moment comment if you please
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Yea soooo... i bought some special adhesive and did some final trims, got the dvd drive hole cut roughly so still got a bit of work to do on that, in perspective heres what still needs to be done:
-cut out io sheild hole
-cut out 80mm fanholes
-cut out power button hole
-assemble pieces
-order parts
-install parts
-Tell my parents im Not CRAZY...well not too much anyways
comment please
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Thought it was about time for a photo update,
heres a pic of the frosted hdd cage
heres one of the dvd drive hole that took forever to fit right
heres one of the glue i bought for this project still havent tried it yet,
and finally heres one of all the pieces after being wetsanded lighty
now all i have to do is the steps above this post.
comment please

Re: scratch plexi case builds
thanks for the reply! I cut out the power supply hole and am measuring for the io shield hole right now, ive been thinking about this power button http://www.frozencpu.com/products/61...ion.html#blank what do you think? Pics later maybe
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Well...thanks for the Enormous amount of helpfull replies jk, i have decided to go ahead with that power button and cut the hole here you can see the power supply hole the inside of the case and with the door on this was done with masking tape it is not permanent i assembled it just to see it i am impatient, really all thats left6 to do is drill some ventlation holes cut out the io shield hole and install the parts
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Ok then so i got the io shield hole done and drilled some ventalation holes
heres one with the io in place
and finally i added the fan to the top
, I ordered the parts on friday so if everything goes to plan it should be done by the end of the week. Please Comment
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
great build;)
But you really should drill more hooles for the ventilator;) leaveit like that and the fan isn't utilitized 100%:)
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yea i took your advice and it kinda cracked the pexi, so yea, but its not too bad and i problably wont even notice when its done
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Be more careful next time:)
You could still cut out the whole circle , and the protect the fan with fan mesh:)
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
still looks cool i like it
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yea it does look good, im just too ashamed to put up the pic of the fan hole *shivers* its ugly, however i just recieved an email saying that my packages have apperantly been deliverd and are in Edmonton so im waiting impatiently for them to get here
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
no packages yet, hoping for tomarrow, heres a pic of the ugly hole
and good news the glue works
thats all ive glued so far as i dont wont to glue it all together without all the holes being drilled
Comment Please
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
lol? at ur hole but oh well we all f up sometimes me more than others but hey you learn from mistakes
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yea i know its just me and my dad are perfectionists so...but what ever.
So yea i got bored and decided to glue the rest together, heres the top and back glued on
heres it with the side on
heres where it gets sketchy with the fan and power supply, i always do have extra plexi though
and because im impatient i took some parts and throught them in to see what it would look like only the dvd drive is goin in the finished product
so yea...Please Comment
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yea that looks cool good work mate.. sorry if that was a harmful comment
-

-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Good news, Bad news.
Good news the power switch i ordered came today
Bad news the hole i drilled for it is too big. Anybody got Any solutions or am i royaly screwed? Please Respond!
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
bondo!!! should do the trick :P pitty tho was going well
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Good news, i solved my little problem by taking some of the spare white plexi drilling the proper size hole then rounding the outside of it into an oval witch is big enough to cover the other hole
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
Cool! Hey man, don't be ashamed if this project doesn't come out the way you intend it to. The best part about this being the 1st scratch case build is that its a learning experience and you'll realize tips and tricks to do so when the second time comes around you'll know what to do and what not to do. I've got my plexi and my mounting hardware for my case that will house a pc, a modchipped Xbox and a 7" widescreen, I just don't have any precision tools yet to pull off perfectly cut square pieces.
Keep the updates coming!
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
thanks for the boost of confidance, i still have to oder a finishing part and install the hardware so i plan to update this thread at least everyday during the next three days till its complete
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yea my parts came in today, But after everything was installed it didnt turn on so got sum figurin to do
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
ok so after a it of trouble shooting to make sure the parts all work i found that the XFX 630i mobo came dead on arrival
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
i think my mother board has a crack in it it still works but the reset and lower pci slots dont work
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yay for small update
parts on floor
power button
and case with stuff in it
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
You may want to reconsider where those hdd's are, looks like the cables won't reach them.
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
yea you are right they wont but thats the problem it doesnt take a normal sata cable, it takes the ribbon cable
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
There's always a longer cable
-
Re: scratch plexi case builds
hmmmm...i like the way you look at that lol, true ill just be off to futureshop then sometime
