project flammable
well im new to case modding but ive got a old senix computer that only I use so im going to give it a bit of a face lift more for testing out and figuring out how to do some of this stuff so when i get my new computer :D ....hopefully with in the next few months ill be able to start doing things to it too.
well heres a picture of the old beast as she sits today, im using her right now
picture isnt the greatest since i took it wiht my camera phone
ive got some ideas but im still thinking of some more things to do....its going to be based around the theme of flammable and be painted dark blue that is all i really have thought of for now. if you have any ideas for somethign cool let me know and i might do it. well thanks for looking and I'll keep you all posted on the progress of this project

Re: project flammable
If you want to do some basics to improve the looks and get little experience under your belt, cut a side hole and add a window, cut a hole for a fan, add some cable wraps and lighting, stealth the drives and paint it. As far as making it look flammable, you could cut a custom fan cover and window mask that looks like this:
What is the toggle switch on the front for?
-
Re: project flammable
yea i have a window design something kinda like what you posted in the works, and the toggle switch on the front is to turn off the blue led that you see there cause its annoying at night when im trying to sleep, there will be 2 more switches there one to turn off the led fan im gonna put on the front and another to turn off a lighted usb hub cause i need more usb ports
-
Re: project flammable
I always need more usb ports.
-
Re: project flammable
well time for an update so yesterday i stripped off the front pannel and the side pannels to c what i was looking at and well heres a pic its nothign special and again its a camera phone so excuse the bad quality
then came todays progress....ill let the picture speek for its self
so what you think so far and after all my cutting and filling is done im going to paint the hole computer dark blue posibly a dark metalic blue and use black for accents and stuff....like the drives im also using a smoke alarm as a vent that im going to cut into the top of the case i chose a smoke alarm because it goes with my hole flammable fire kinda theme
-
Re: project flammable
it's coming along nicely! nice cutout :D can't wait to see it when it's all done!
-
Re: project flammable
Just make sure that you take out the insides of the smoke detector, as it's rather annoying when those things go off while vaccuming or have a fan behind it......
-
Re: project flammable
Very nice work on the cut-out. Clever plan for the smoke detector - I like it.
Can't wait to see what you do next with it.
-
Re: project flammable
well heres the last 2 days of work that ive done, I cut out and mounted the gutted smoke dector though no pics of that really and cut a rough hole in the front for the fan to get some air plus i filled and am still working on filling all the little holes that were orignally on the front. well anyway heres what it looks like right now...the side cover with the cut out isnt on cause i was to lazy to put it on right now....
just in case anyone is wondering why there is a random wire hanging out of the case it is because i broke it off my toggle switch and figured that it would be safer like that the other switch thing is the power switch so i can turn the computer off at night because it is gettin bright with it right beside my bed...well what do u think so far...and any other tips or ideas anyone has for me please feel free to share them....im runing out of things that i can do easily and inexpenisvly. damm thats a bad pic it looks better in person

Re: project flammable
It's good to see so much people are having a go at case modding
-
Re: project flammable
nice!:) one question: What do you fill the holes with? I want to do something similar but dont know what to use!
-
Re: project flammable
Oh, and by the way, I THINK that compUSA (is that what its called?) sells fan grills of the flammable logo! I have one somewhere it was the first 'mod' that i ever did about 2 years ago :D
-
Re: project flammable
I have seen those also on other sites. I think xoxide has them and frozencpu.com
-
Re: project flammable
hmmmmmm buying a fan grill would be much easier then trying to make my own i might have a look for that, and for filling the holes i just used bondo and some glazing putty is seems to have worked well...guess ill find out once i actually get around to putting some primer on it but thats after i do a few more things

Re: project flammable
well i have done verry little on this project in the last few days because i am sick with the flu about all i have done is decided to no put the hub in because im going to get a fan controler that comes with some usb ports so that will go in instead also i have drawn up a sketch of what the fan grill im going to make will look like....its kinda going with my theme but not really it will be a no smoking sign i havent decided what im going to make it out of yet though its either going to be froseted plexi, just regular flat metal painted, or 3d metal/some other plastic. it will probibly be a wile before anything gets painted or anymore bondo goes on because its really cold here with the snow and all and not having a garage but i will try and see if i can turn the little shed in the back yard into somekinda painting booth. but yea just an update on whats going on wiht this i guess. oh and my cpu fan seems to have developed a really annoying rattle its probibly just loose though so next time i have it apart ill check that out and tighten it up, but for now ill just suffer with the loud noise its making

Re: project flammable
I can definately relate to the cold factor. Last time I was trying to solder, it was 22 degrees (F). Doesn't really work that well, when your hands are shaking like crazy.
Keep us posted as things develop. I like how you're approaching the theme.
I was thinking about this earlier, and wondered how feasible it might be to get a mini fire extinguisher and mount it on the top, sort of like a case handle. I don't remember if you had anything else planned for the top of the case, so it might make a nice touch.

Re: project flammable
Very nice work you did there! I am wanting to do those kind of things myself, did you use a dremel to cut out the flame on the side of the case?
-
Re: project flammable
yes i used a dremel to cut out the flame it took forever and the edges are rough but it worked and im happy with it just gotta do some grinding to get everything not so sharp now
-
Re: project flammable
well its been a few days since ive updated this and well not alot of progress has happend, all ive done is i make some lighted feet out of pop bottle lids and some skateboard hardware and marked some of the plastic for cutting. hopefully tommorow i will cut out and finish making the front how i want it for now and grind down all the metal cuts so there not so sharp anymore. maybe if i get things done fast enough throw on a coat of primer. and ive got an update hardware wise ive decided to upgrade this computer by gettin a new mb cpu power supply vid card and ram so hopefully i will be ordering that stuff up with in a month or so, im kinda broke from christmas gifts right now. but yea thats my update probibly will have a better one with some pictures tommorow or on the weekend
-
Re: project flammable
well today i did some work, i decided that with the sun out here i would give the case a coat of primer and finish up the work on the front of it too... so heres a few more pics of the case with primer on most of it and a pic of the new feet that i made, the leds arnt wired up just yet but i will get to that in a few days
well on to the pics
case mostly primered with the fan hole cut out and almost ready for paint
the feet i made not lit up yet (tilt your head on this picture and you will figure it out) :p
-
Re: project flammable
Thats coming along really nicely, cant wait till i start my next project... so many ideas! so little money!
-
Re: project flammable
lol nice use of the bottle caps for the case feet :p can't wait to see them all lit up!! :D
-
Re: project flammable
well so far i have no more progress on this mod aside from some sanding on the front to make it all smooth and ready for primer, as for the rest of the computer it now has a black dvdburner in it and the power supply and mother board have kinda taken a turn for the worst they both have made some smoke at one point in time in the last few weeks and now im just trying to c how long this computer will stay runing, i have replacement parts all planned for it but im short on cash right now so im trying to keep this one alive as long as i can....but its 3 in the morning here so im going to bed now

Re: project flammable
well today was my first real free day in a long time so i decided to do some more work on this beast so heres the update i guess. things i have done to it since last time i posted have been i added the controls for my neon lights that were from my car and put the lights into the case, cut out and primered the fan grill for the front added a tv tunner into the computer and am now thinking of ways to build in the infered, added the dvd burner out of one of my other computers (replaced wiht better one in other comp) figured out what caused the sparks and the small fire i had in it and fixed that (was the cpu fan) got a new wireless keyboard and mouse for christmas. I still havent attemped to connect up the leds in the feet because i need some heat shrink so they dont arc out onto the bottom of the case. managed to burn/electrocute myself with the neon lights and i dont know how but i cut open my thumb too. I sadly dont have any pictures because my only source of pictures (cellphone) is in being repaired and im stuck with a courtesy phone that sucks but I will try to find some batteries that have life in them and use parents digi cam so might have picture updates in a few days
-
Re: project flammable
update time i think, well ive scraped the feet idea they were causing me problems with power some how so there gone now, ive painted most of the case black now probibly going to start with the blue paint tommorow...my neon wiere came in so its all taped onto the case roughly where i want it to be but thats only temp for now. well enough talk time for some more pictures since i got my cell phone back from motorola. well here u go
just after some bondo worh with the neon controls in place under fan
with the neon wire turned off and taped roughly into place to c how it looks
neon wire turned on with the room lights on
neon wire on and mouse pad in picture too (night time pic)
